Well here's sortof my second idea for a fanfic as my first one didn't
quite pan out.

Lover's Ring (Working title)
by John Aten

Disclaimer {just in case} the character's in this piece are the creation
of Rumiko Takahashi and property of Pony Canyon (I think). The only
character that is mine is the mysterious person in the beginning (I
don't
have a name for him/her yet).

Springtime. A time for rejuvenation of both the earth and plants. The
time when new life is born and the cold snap of winter is but a memory.
The forests of Nerima, Japan are filled with the sounds of life. On
this day in particular, they hold the sounds of one martial artist
trying to perfect his art. His battle cry echoing through-out the
forest.
"Where in the world am I, NOW??" cried Ryoga Hibiki as a flock of
birds took to the sky. 'The Eternal Lost Boy'. He hated Ranma for
calling him that, but it was mostly the truth. Trying to get his mind
off
of being lost, he sat down next to a tree and started writing a letter
to Akane.
[Oh, Akane. I hope you're doing ok. I bet Ranma's making you angry
again. If only I had some way to show you how much I feel about you.
Then maybe you would leave that low-life fiancee' of yours for me.]
"I maybe able to help you," came a voice from nearby.
Ryoga looked around but couldn't tell where the voice came from.
"Show yourself," yelled Ryoga as he got into a ready stance.
   "Not quite yet, my friend."
Ryoga didn't like the mind games that Ranma would sometimes play on
him. He liked them even less from total strangers. "What do you want
from me?"
"As I stated before, I might be able to help you. So the question
should be what do you want from me? I might have something that would
help you with your problem."
"And which problem is that, since you seem to know already? " he
kept looking for the source of the voice, but couldn't pinpoint the
person's location. It seemed to come from everywhere.
"Why a gift for your ... Akane, isn't it?"
That got Ryoga's attention, big time. "What do I have to do?"
"You needn't do a thing. Just take this ring and give it to her.
Simple really."
"What will this do?" Ryoga said a little apprehensively.
"It's a special ring. When worn, it will bring true lover's together.
It is a woman's ring so it has to be a woman that wears it for it to
work." After having said that, a small blue light appeared in front
of Ryoga. When the light faded, a ring was floating, by itself, until
gravity took hold and it fell to earth, landing with a soft thud. Ryoga
bent down and picked up the ring. Looking at it, he noted its intricate
design. It had two dragons wrapping around the center jewel, each trying
to eat the others tail. The jewel itself was a marvel to behold. It
seemed to be made like a marble. It was two toned , and looked almost
like a yin yang symbol. But instead of opposite colored dots in the
middle, it had two diamonds instead. Ryoga put the ring in his backpack
for safekeeping. Ryoga went to thank whoever gave him the ring, but
he found himself alone and he didn't feel the voice's presence anymore.
[Oh well. This will be the perfect gift for me to capture Akane's
heart with.] Now that he had what he thought to be the best luck in
the world, he started for Nerima again. Which was just behind him had
he turned around.
Unaware by Ryoga, a gleaming set of eyes followed him. The eyes
were joined by a sinister smile.

A couple of days later, Ryoga finally found the dojo. It was
mid-afternoon on Saturday, with sounds of people working out floating
through the air. From his vantage point, on the wall, he could tell
one of the voices belonged to Akane. He was almost certain that the
other voice belonged to Ranma, although he wasn't sure. It wouldn't
matter, anyway. If what the strange voice told him about the ring
was true, then having Ranma there was icing on the cake.
In the dojo, Ranma and Akane were sparring, as usual. Usual meaning
Akane was throwing punches and kicks, while Ranma just avoided
getting hit and tapping Akane when she left herself open.
   "Why don't ... huh...you ever ... huh ... really hit back. Huh...
You know it ... huh ... really ticks me off ... huh ... when you do
that!" Akane managed to puff out.
"Geez, Akane. How many times do I gotta tell ya? I don't hit girls.
At least I haven't insulted you in a while, you slowpoke."
"Slowpoke! SLOWPOKE!! RANMA NO BAKA!!!" She yelled as a mysterious
huge mallet appeared in her hands. *Wham* Right on top of Ranma's
head. Ranma stood there for a moment before falling to the floor,
face first.
"Humph. That should teach you to call me a slowpoke." Seeing
Ranma fall, Ryoga figured it was a good time to enter.
"Hello..A..Akane," he said while blushing a deep red.
"Oh hello Ryoga. I didn't know you were there."
Gathering up his courage, Ryoga reached into his backpack for
the ring. "I..um...gift..you...me..for..AGH!" The last wasn't for
Akane. Ranma had woken up and had snatched the ring from Ryoga.
"Give that back!" yelled Ryoga. Then an idea came to Ryoga. "Or
are you jealous, Ranma?"
"??? What are you talking about?"
"That ring is a gift for Akane. You're jealous because you didn't
think about it first," #That should show Ranma up# thought Ryoga.
At that point Akane smacked Ranma and took the ring from him.
"Honestly, Ranma. I wish you would stop picking on Ryoga. Thank you,
Ryoga. It's a very nice gift."
Ryoga stood there, looking at his twiddling thumbs. " I...that
is.."
Akane looked at it for a moment and was just about to put it on
when Kasumi, Nabiki, and Soun walked into the dojo. "Look what
Ryoga gave me," said Akane as she showed her sisters the ring.
Soun looked at the ring and then looked at Ranma. "RANNNMA!!
Why didn't you give her that ring!!!" yelled a demon headed Soun.
"What's the big deal? It's just a stupid ring," replied Ranma.
"It's not stupid, Ranma. I think it's a very nice gesture."
With that said, Akane put the ring on her right hand. Just as she
got finished putting on the ring, everything got quiet. Then a
small light started coming from the ring. The light grew bigger
and brighter as it filled the room. Ranma, while trying to shield
his eyes, started towards Akane. The air in the room got thick and
the feeling of heavy static permeated the room. Soon, The light
had filled the room and a load pop was heard. Then the light just
vanished. It took a while for everyone's sight to come back. When
everyone stopped seeing spots, they looked toward the center of
the room. Ranma was unconscious on the floor next to where Akane
had stood. Akane herself, was no where to be seen but her clothes
were on the floor.
Ranma slowly sat up and grasped his head as he waited for his
vision to clear. On Ranma's right hand was the ring Akane had
just put on.
"Where is Akane and why are you wearing that ring, Ranma?"
Soun asked as tears started forming in his eyes.
"Huh?" Ranma intelligently replied. Suddenly, he seemed to be
staring off into space. After a few moments, his vision snapped
back to the present but his face turned a good shade of red.
"Ah...Could someone get some cold water?"
Nabiki had come in with a glass of water already, she handed
it to Ranma (without charging him for it as she was curious).
"Thanks Nabiki. Uh...I know where Akane is, but I think it
would be easier to just show you." With that he poured the water
on his head. Everyone was expecting his normal female side. They
weren't prepared for what they saw. Akane was sitting in Ranma's
place, in his clothes, with the now empty glass in her hand, and
the ring was on her right hand.
"Hi Daddy," Akane said sheepishly. Soun, and everyone else for
that matter, fainted.
