I didn't post a status update yesterday because I spent most of the
day unconscious...^_^ but anyway...
Back from an exhausting weekend (and I didn't even really *do* all
that much at A-Kon...spent most of my time in the dealer and video
rooms, and waiting for elevators...>_<), and getting back to work on
writing, resisting the overwhelming urge to enjoy some of the new
videos I picked up since I have an obligation to fulfill (curse you
Zen! grrrr...)
Anyways, thanks to Zen and his...inspiration, I've begun working on
chapter 25 of Onna: Red Side and have a draft already at the
prereaders. I'm going to continue working on Suiseiki, with Onna: Red
Side going on as well...expect me to be slow for a while, between
writing two fics and having a lot of new goodies to enjoy.
I don't really have much to say about A-Kon...blew an even thou in
the dealer room, picked up a lot of good stuff...spent about 1/5 of
the weekend standing around waiting for elevators...found new ways to
compress 360+ pounds of body mass into a small enough ball to move
through, between, and *under* in some cases crowds of otaku...found
out that my pool game hasn't suffered from three years away from
tables, but actually improved, even though the table at the hotel was
really crappy...had fun MSTing the first episode of CLAMP Campus
Detectives before the staffer running that particular video room
instructed the audience to shut up (bah...no fun...), and of course,
encountered Zen and the infamous spatula, resulting in a persuasion
to continue Onna: Red Side *quickly* lest I suffer the
consequences...I wasn't about to argue, faced with that spatula...oh,
and as is my misfortune, I got lost within the hotel several times.
All in all, though I was a bit disappointed about missing out on the
ceremonies and the cosplay, I had a good time at my first anime con.
I'm looking forward to next year, and I learned that if they're
holding it at the Harvey and have the same setup again, I'm going to
line up for cosplay two hours early...that still might not be early
enough...^_^;;
And of course, the fanfic panel. I still say Lawson-san should have
followed all the way through on that swing...seems a shame to go to
the trouble of borrowing Zen's spatula and not even actually *hit*
Nick with it...^_^ The panel was definitely an interesting
experience, although I'm pretty sure that there've been better ones
than that, judging by Nick's reaction to it.
You pretty much have to feel sorry for the "normals" that were at the
hotel, though. It's a good thing there were only about three things
besides A-Kon going on at the hotel over the weekend, and all of them
were in upstairs suites...still, it must have been a shock to
them...amazing how well the hotel staff dealt with all the
weirdness...
Advice to anyone with a weak constitution planning to attend an anime
con: Vitamins. Triple vitamins. For about two weeks prior to the con.
Trust me. You'll need 'em.
Anyways, now it's back to the grind...barring any serious problems
with the draft I sent out (ie, it completely sucking or needing more
scenes), expect to see O:RS chapter 25 within the next 48 hours...
