Hah! Actually managed to finish this one. And on time, too. Well...
okay, so it really was late. I have a valid excuse!! Anyway, things have
changed since I first wrote the prologue for this thing. Well,
considering the things I've been discussing with my friends... it's quite
understandable.
I'm trying a newer style. Something like my old but mixed with a
faster-paced storytelling. I'm still a novice at fight scenes but
experience and time should sharpen it well. If anyone actually manages to
find the little cameos of the names I'm using and from where I got them,
heh! Then it shows that you people have sharp eyes or minds.
Another thing. WarHammer has given me permission for the use of his
beloved Katana. I'm sorta unsure if I'm going to use Teknos/Teknoman or
the Japanese-type Tekkaman. If anyone actually watched the new OVA, give
me a call. I need further info on it...
Tell me what you people think. C&C and others are welcome. Flames
hardly matter - I got a fire-proof system... I think. ^_^..
	On with the story!!!

BUBBLEGUM CRISIS: THE STORY OF THE KNIGHT SABERS

                         ONCE AND FUTURE GODDESS

Chapter 5: A Time of Chaos

"Who the hell are you?" the female in the blue hardsuit asked.
She smiled as she walked away without turning around, unmindful of
the slight fact that the woman in the blue hardsuit was aiming the
motoroid's cannon at her back. "Just someone who knows what it's like to
lose the people you care about. Don't mind me. Sorry for the trouble."
With that, the mysterious woman leapt high into the air and
disappeared into the night.
"Was she some new type boomer or something, Sylia?" Linna asked as
she watched Priss cradle the sobbing 33-S Sylvie.
	"Nene?"
"She's human. Or, at least, she should be one, unless she's some
sort of boomer who's able to mask her electromagnetic signatures. Other
than the fact that she destroyed the battlemover, she's very human. Or so
my sensors detect."
Sylia sighed, her mind literally awhirl with questions of, about
and to the woman. But for now, they had other things to take care of. The
recorders should shed some light on this new mystery. Or so she hoped it
would.
This city just seemed to like handing out surprises. And she did
not like this one one bit.
Sylia glanced at Priss, who was joyously enfolding the sexaroid in
a fierce hug, mumbling soft curses at the sexaroid who was her friend.
Funny how the world works.
Sylia smiled. Perhaps there was hope yet for Priss.
	"Time to go home, ladies."

===================

	Into the Present.
Year 2033. It was just a few months after the ADPolice incident at
their HQ. It was also a few days before Christmas.
Then again, the snow should have made it somewhat obvious.
But somewhere in the huge airport that served the whole of
MegaTokyo, a young police officer wondered just when the world had chosen
to go upside down on him.
	"Say what???"
"I am the one they're looking for, Leon." Kyoko answered in a low
voice.
Leon blinked, utterly confused and wondering if his mind had
decided to go bad on him.
"You sure you're not just hallucinating all this?"
Kyoko sighed as she restrained herself from pounding her brother
flat on the floor with the table. She mentally gasped at that sudden
thought. Strange. She never felt like this ever since she and her brother
parted ways.
Kyoko wondered if she should feel worried by this sudden
backsliding. "I know it's kinda hard to believe, Leon, but it is the
truth. One even I sometimes wish was not. There are people out there with
plans to take over the world. And it isn't Genom or any other power-mad
person, boomer or corporation. And it's up to me to stop them."
	"Why?" came the simple question.
"I've seen the evil that these people could do. I should know since
I almost became one of them." Kyoko sighed. "Strange to think it was the
thought of _ you _ that helped me through the transformation process."
She wiped a tear from her eye, remembering all-too-well the fate
one of her friends had suffered under their hands. Illyiana would never
be the same, for she had become her enemy.
"Listen closely, Leon. I've done what I could to hide my existence.
A friend of mine had died helping me. To the world, I do not exist."
Kyoko looked at her brother straight in the eye. "All except you."
Leon remained utterly silent, very silent.
"You seem to be taking all this in stride," she remarked, breaking
the ice.
Leon sighed, removing his shades +5. "Guess that means you're
staying here and make my life a living hell again."
Kyoko laughed a laugh filled with merriment. She had never thought
to ever laugh again -- not with what she'd been through.
She was about to say something when a massive explosion rocked the
entire airport. The screams began almost immediately as everyone ran for
safety. Another explosion blew a nearby section into rubble.
Leon drew his pistol, drawing his sister close as he searched for a
way out through the sea of screaming and fearful mob that threatened to
run both of them over with their fears of death.
Leon snorted. Che! What else did living in a city like MegaTokyo
entailed considering it _was_ the main headquarters of Genom?!
Three 55-C class boomers broke through the already gaping hole,
firing their gatlings at the targets they found.
*Shit.* Leon thought. *Of all the stupid things to happen now!!!*
Without a second thought, he literally dragged his sister through
the mob and into a corner and kept on running. "You know, there are times
when I should have listened to you, sis," Leon muttered.
"Like you'd listen to me anyway," she shot back.
	"I guess."
Leon, feeling that strange tingling sensation that usually meant
danger, shoved Kyoko as hard as he could just as he dived for cover. The
sudden explosion behind them threw both quite a ways. Still, both were
relatively unhurt, if a little scorched here and there.
Leon quickly ran towards his sister just as another hail of bullets
went their way. "I knew I had a reason for leaving this place!" Kyoko
muttered as she got up.
"Who cares about that now! Run!!!" yelled Leon over the din of
gunfire and explosions.
"At least it ain't them," Kyoko said half-aloud.
	"Say what??"

===================

Priss muttered a curse, damning boomers to hell and back for
ruining another of her gigs. It was a wonder that the old man still let
her perform considering the stuff she had to pull, one time or another.
She quickly stripped the leather tank top and mini she had already put
one and hurriedly put on her biker outfit.
She then scrawled a quick note and taped it on the mirror where
Aisha, her band mate, could see it when she came in for her. She just
prayed the manager wouldn't mind too much. Priss mentally reminded
herself to be extra nice to him for the next few days. She still needed
the job until she could finally close the deal with Mrs. Kusanagi.
So much for a nice, dull day.

===================

"What?!! Another emergency?!" Linna complained to herself as she
quickly toweled herself dry. "Why the heck do those hunks of tin have to
go crazy at a time like this?!!" She had a frigging date in an hour!
Linna threw on some street clothes and hoped her date wouldn't mind
too much for being late.
*Damn! And I was really looking forward to this date!* she wailed.
*And the guy was just perfect for me?!! Aaaaahhhh!! I hate this job!*
Linna looked suddenly thoughtful. *Okay. I don't hate it too much.
After all, the money had been helpful at times.*
With that, she jumped into her van and rode off for another hard
day in the 'office'.

===================

	Ka-BOOOOM!!!
Nene whipped her head around, expecting the worst.
She was right. Two boomers walked into the newly made hole. One
held a gatling in its right hand while the other opened its chest plates
to reveal an array of heat lenses.
	Nene froze as she watched.
	Time slowed.
People ran away in slow motion. The boomer let out a snarl as it
open fire with its heat cannon.
	Then the screams.
Nene looked away, tears misting her eyes as she tried to tune out
the agonized screams of the people caught up in the blast. She'd had long
thought she was used to the screams by now. After all, working as
dispatch for ADP more or less had her listening to the screams and curses
of the field officers as they fought against boomers.
Being a witness to the carnage was another matter.
Kurumi was silent all throughout the incident. Eyes hard as ice as
she bore witness to the carnage. She was practically quivering in anger.
She had long since grown callused to such scenes. After all, the one she
had lived through had been just as bad as the Second Kanto Quake. It
still surprised her that so few remembered _that_ event ever happened.
Then she saw the boomer with the gatling gun fire at the woman who
had managed to survive the heat blast.
Her cries echoed loudly across the now deserted area. So did the
cry of the child she held in her arms.
Without another word, Kurumi leapt into action, moving at speeds
that made her seem nothing more than a blur. Kurumi pulled her ribbon out
of her hair, using it to snag the nearby remains of a huge stone pillar.
Kurumi heaved mightily as she threw the pillar straight towards the two
boomers with all the power of a missile.
Wasting no time, she leapt high into the air, twisting in and out
of the hail of bullets one of the boomers shot at her. The other boomer
opened its particle cannon and blew the projectile into so much dust and
rubble.
Both were quite surprised with what happened next.
Kurumi landed behind the two, lashing out at one of them with a
spin kick. Her blow connected _hard_, causing it to crash into the wall
behind it. Without missing a beat, Kurumi turned to face the other
boomer, this time using her ribbon to slice it into so many pieces. The
ribbon, sharper than anything ever produced, cleaved through the thick
armor like paper.
Kurumi then turned to meet the second boomer's attack. It began
firing its heat cannon at the strange human. It was unsure of what to
make of its assailant. Its sensors confirmed it to be one-hundred-percent
human. And yet...
	"Your move, tin can."
The boomer snarled its response as it fired its particle cannon on
a multiple-cycle phase, trying to rid itself of the strange human that
had destroyed its partner with laughable ease.
It did not like what happened next.
Something had punched through the portion of its chest where a
human heart should be. Its optical sensors saw a flash of red before its
sensors went offline.
A few seconds later, it exploded.

===================

Nene Romanova watched in mute awe as her new friend tore two 55-Cs
into so much scrap metal with ease. Not even Linna could do it any better
than Kurumi had. And Linna had to have a hardsuit to do it!!
She blinked, rubbing her eyes with her fists to clear her eyes of
the improbability she had just witnessed.
It was impossible! No human was capable of beating weapons of mass
destruction like they were nothing more than pieces of junk - not unless
one was wearing a highly sophisticated power armor.
Nene blinked again, staring at the now widely smirking Kurumi.
Yet, it was. Somehow her new friend managed that.
	*Unless she's not human.*
"Che! I never thought killer androids could be this frail." Kurumi
complained. "The stuff big sister makes use of for our sparring sessions
were so much better and a damn lot more difficult to trash." Kurumi
looked thoughtful for a moment. "Then again, they never tried to kill me
before." Kurumi gave a shrug.
"You... you just took out two 55-Cs, Kurumi," Nene stated in a
shocked voice.
	"Your point?"
"How did you do that???" Nene asked.
"Martial arts, of course!" she responded in her best cute voice.
	"...."
Kurumi smiled. "I know. Most people tend to react that way." She
then grabbed Nene and took off for the nearest exit.
"Come on! Time to get lost."
"Can you teach me??" Nene asked suddenly.
"I think I already said yes on that."

===================

	"Status?" Sylia queried.
"AD Police has set up barricades along the perimeter of the
airport. Fire-fight within the complex is heavy. Reports indicate boomer
strength to be around eight to ten. One group reported seeing an unknown
type of boomer but had been cut off before they could get any visual
confirmation." reported a woman with vibrant short green hair.
	"Civilian casualties, Anri?" inquired Sylia.
"Heavy. Casualties are expected to be in the thousands."
Sylia merely nodded, her expression neutral. Linna looked slightly
green. Priss took it in the normal, stoic demeanor that seemed to belong
to Sylia.
"Kami-sama! That many?!" Sylvie burst out.
"The MegaTokyo Airport is one of the busiest in the world. It has a
capacity to serve over half a million passengers in a given day. Still,
you are right. This attack was provoked in order for us to show up. Of
course, I had not expected Nene to be within the engagement area," Sylia
responded.
"We got to get Nene out first! No telling what's happening to her
right now," added Linna worriedly.
"Damn it! Why now?!!" Priss yelled.
"Do we have a fix on her coordinates, Sylvie?" Sylia asked.
"I can't get a proper fix on it. The signal is erratic but from
what I could get, it seems that she's moving out of the danger zone.
Still."
	Sylia nodded.
"It would appear that we would have to split up. Linna and I will
try to recover Nene without attracting undue attention or, if worse comes
to worse, just get her to safety. Priss and Sylvie, both of you deal with
the boomers for the time being. No heroics. Don't take unnecessary risks.
Something about this attack strikes me cold. Take the motoroids for
backup. Anri and Mackie, both of you remain in the Knight Wing in case we
need immediate evacuation."
Mackie smiled and gave a thumbs up from his position in the
cockpit.
Anri nodded. "I'll prepare the medkit. Just in case," Anri
announced.
Everyone laughed until Priss let out a slightly aggrieved cry of
anger.
"ETA to target area: one minute, sis," Mackie announced.

===================

	"Uh-oh."
"Now what?!!" Nene asked her partner.
Kurumi frantically looked around for any way out. Beating 55-Cs was
one thing but even martial artists of her caliber would be hard-pressed
to fight against battle-boomers like the ones that were blocking their
escape route.
Well, not _that_ much. Not with the level of training she had
undergone for the past years. But it did mean having to use more of her
esoteric moves. Kurumi sighed.
Three BU-12Bs stood not too far from their position from within a
stuffed-toy store. It really wasn't the best of all places to be
hunkering about but, considering that it was the only available place, it
would do for the time being while they debated on what to do.
Kurumi knew she could get past them all if it was only her she was
to worry about. But she had Nene with her. To top it off, Nene had little
expertise in martial arts or, if she had, not the type that would help in
matters like these.
"Someone's gone to a lot of trouble, setting up this trap," Kurumi
stated.
	"Huh?!"
"This is a trap, plain and simple. We've spotted what? Over twelve
of these military models already. Someone wants to lure somebody in here
badly if they wanted to stage an attack like this in so populated a
place." Kurumi spat, damning boomers to hell and back. "It's a wonder the
people hadn't pushed banning these things."
Nene shook her head. "They tried, but no one actually listens.
They're too afraid. Genom holds too much power in MegaTokyo, if not the
entire world, Kurumi. Even if the government did, it would mean having to
ban every type of boomer and destroying the entire technology base for
it, since it's the only way to ensure the ban works. Doing that would
destroy the world's economy."
"Don't I know it," Kurumi shot back. "Still, we have to get out of
here. Whoever is responsible for this seeming boomer rampage is waiting
for someone to appear. They --"
	Nene gasped. "The Knight Sabers!!"
	Kurumi nodded. "Yep. You're right."
Nene could hear her heart pounding madly in her chest. A trap?!
No!! She had to warn the others. Fast.
"We got to warn the Sabers then!" Nene whispered urgently.
Kurumi shook her head. "We can try, but I doubt we could find them
in time."
"What do we do??" Nene asked, wondering where her fellow Sabers
were right now. She silently prayed they were safe. Now, if she could
only get to warn them!!
"Five to one. Not exactly the odds I would care for. Still..."
"Wha-wha... what are you talking about, Kurumi???" Nene practically
cried out loud. "Those are military model boomers. BU-12Bs!!! Not 55-Cs,
which mainly serve as bodyguards!! These things have enough fire power to
take on the Sabers on equal footing. Even if you managed to take on those
two back there... you can't possibly -- "
"Nothing I can't handle" was the calm reply of Kurumi.
	"Are you crazy?!!"
"Nope, I'm perfectly sane. You don't have to worry about me, Nene-
chan! I've handled myself in worse situations than these. Besides, it's a
martial artist's duty to protect the weak and defenseless."
With that, Kurumi thrust herself into battle once more.
	Man... err... Woman against machine.
"Prepare to be scrap, boomers!!" Kurumi cried out as she charged
her enemies.
The boomers whirled around, weapons unloading a fierce barrage
against their single opponent.
"Over here, you stupid excuse for a battle robot!!!" Kurumi taunted
from her position, high above the five boomers.
The boomers answered by firing their weapons upon the foolish human
interloper.
Nene could not help but wonder just how martial arts allowed you to
tangle with boomers. Not even Linna could handle that old Assassin-type
boomer that had killed Reika's little sister.
So how come Kurumi could? Martial arts? But how?
Nene sighed. There were times when she picked up the craziest
people for friends. This looked like one of those days.
The boomers were quite surprised when their sensors did not confirm
the destruction of their target. Even more so when said target was a mere
human.
The BU-12B was the most powerful of the mass-produced military
boomer-types, other than the Doberman. Still, it was relatively easy to
deal with unless encountered in huge numbers.
Still, even that did not seem to trouble the human who now stood
atop the third floor railing. Of course, these boomers had yet to tangle
with humans who could actually kick their metal asses.
Kurumi smiled as she commenced her attack.
	The boomers fired.
Technology had risen by quite a bit since the days after the quake
had destroyed most of Tokyo. More so with the development of boomer
technology. It could be said that boomers were the current height of
man's technological research.
And like any other technology, good things could be turned to bad,
a problem that tended to cause quite a lot of chaos. But, then again,
that's why the Knight Sabers existed. Or the ADP, for that matter.
Still, technology had yet a looong way to go if they were to match
the speeds martial artists were capable of. In this case, the boomers
couldn't even begin to understand why their weapons weren't even touching
their target.
This suited Kurumi just fine. After all, what they can't hit won't
hurt her in any way.
Time to dispose of the trash.
"Anything-Goes Final Attack!! Rising Nova Crush!!!!"
Kurumi cupped both hands in front of her as she summoned her chi. A
bright aquamarine ball popped into existence between her hands, crackling
with restrained energy that begged to be released.
It had taken her quite a few years to really fully master the use
of her chi. But, as she had often times told her friends, it was well
worth the effort she put into it. After all, the battle that had started
so many years ago had yet to end.
Nene watched, transfixed by the scene before her. A pillar of
yellow light had thrust the boomers high into the air, where a small star
bloomed to swallow them. It lasted mere moments, but for that brief
moment, it felt like an eternity.
What happened would forever etch itself in Nene's memory.
Too bad she wouldn't be remembering it for long.
"Kurumi!! What you did... it couldn't be possible!!!" Nene started.
Kurumi smiled wanly, feeling slightly drained. "Gomen, Nene-chan. I
can't let you remember all this," she apologized as she took out a small
bottle from somewhere.
Nene was puzzled. "What are you talking about?!! What's with the
shampoo??"
Kurumi quickly poked Nene behind the neck where the sleep point
was. Nene was surprised one moment by the slight sting behind her neck
before she collapsed into Kurumi's waiting arms.
*Lucky me, Shampoo-chan taught me a few tricks. Hopefully, the
improved formula 110 would lock that portion of Nene's memory.*
Kurumi said to herself as she carried Nene's unconscious form out
of the airport and somewhere private for her to conduct her shampooing in
private.
Now... if the formula would just work the way it was supposed to...

===================

"I can't get an exact reading on Nene's beacon." Linna complained,
"Too much interference."
"ECM. Or background noise. I doubt the latter, though," Sylia said.
"Can you get a possible reading of where she might be?"
"Well, from what my sensors could get, she's somewhere outside the
southern exit." Linna shrugged. "How she got there is beyond me, though."
	"Are you sure?" Sylia asked.
"Marginally so. While the beacon is sending out irregular signals,
I'm positive she's out of the danger zone. The ADP picket line should be
able to help her out."
	"Hmm..."
	<Mackie??>
	<Yeah, sis?>
<Can you check out the south exit? Linna says that Nene's there
somewhere.>
	<No problem, sis.>
	"So, what now?" Linna asked.
"We take care of this problem first. Then we find out who's
involved in this."
"Isn't it obvious it's Genom? I mean, we _are_ the thorn in their
side," Linna remarked.
"Perhaps. But we need the reason. It just can't be because we've
been the proverbial thorn. Something else is afoot."
"Isn't there always?" Linna shot back.
	"Always," agreed Sylia.

===================

	"Ooohhhh... What happened?"
"Great! You're up! I was kinda worried for a while there. I thought
you were killed or something," a voice beside her gushed out, hugging her
rather tightly.
	"Air... need... air...."
Kurumi backed away. "Errr... ah... sorry, Nene-chan! I _was_ kinda
worried."
"What happened to me? I feel like someone used my head for a
baseball..."
Kurumi was about to say something in response to Nene's question
when one of the ADP officers approached the two.
"Glad to see you're awake, Nene."
Nene looked up to see a smiling Daley Wong flashing her a thumbs-up
sign.
	"Yeah... thanks. Did Leon...?"
	Daley shook his head.
"This is not good," Nene told no one in particular.
"You got that right. It's a kill zone out there. I'm not even sure
if anyone is still alive in there." Daley commented, "I just hope Leon
gets out of there."
"There... the airport is crawling with military boomers," warned
Nene.
Daley nodded. "Yeah. We know. Took out the first, third, and fifth
K-12 battalions. The heavy armor groups just arrived to deal with the
problem."
Daley's dubious voice conveyed a heck of a lot of what he thought
of that idea. The heavy armor group used the newer K-14B class power
armor - better armored, and armed with two 30mm chain guns and a two-shot
mini rocket launcher. It looked a lot better, but even these types had
trouble with 55-Cs during the boomer rampage not so long ago.
Against BU-12Bs... well... no one voiced out their worry over the
people who were about to enter a boomer-infested area. None of their
people could estimate the total number of boomers but, from the
preliminary reports they've got from their people holding station above
and inside the airport, there were quite a hefty number of 55-Cs not to
mention the presence of BU-12Bs.
Even a kid could divine that this incident was a trap whose jaws
had just swung shut when the Sabers arrived on the scene.
"I just hope the Knights Sabers would be okay," said Daley
quietly.
"When did they arrive?" Nene queried.
"They just arrived half an hour ago. They've cleared out a section
by the north and south areas. Other than that..." Daley shrugged.
Remembering something, Daley asked, "Any of you know anything about
that explosion in the south terminal exit?"
	Kurumi shrugged. Nene just blinked.
"I take it none of you know anything about it?"
"Not really. All I know is that some sort of blast threw the both
of us out by a good fifty meters. Both of us were rendered unconscious
for some time. Nene was out a lot longer, though," answered Kurumi.
"Lucky for us, no one was around to finish the job."
Nene stared intently at her newfound friend for quite some time.
Something about that question tickled a faint, ghostly memory in her.
	"Something... I..." Nene began.
"Huh? Ara! Nene-chan! Anything wrong?" Daley asked.
Nene shook her head. "I feel different somehow..."
Kurumi sucked her breath in. *Oh-oh!! I hope that damn formula
works!!*
Daley looked greatly concerned. "Hey! Someone call a paramedic!!"
Nene once more shook her head. "No. I'm okay. I just... well...
feel..."
She paused. Daley and Kurumi waited, each fearing for the worst.
"I just.. well.. it's just that.. I feel..." Nene suddenly smiled.
"It's just that I never felt my hair feel so good in so long a time.."
she gushed out.
Nene blinked, staring at the twitching forms on the pavement.
"Uh... hey!! Are you guys okay??"

===================

"Just how many of these are we supposed to be killing?" Linna asked
nobody in particular as she finished downing another 55-C boomer. "That's
the fifth one! Gods! Just how many are they?"
"The place must be crawling with them," Priss quipped.
"That does not sound good, Priss-san," Sylvie scolded while she
took aim with her pulse rifle.
The pulse rifle had been a recent invention of Sylia's. Because of
its prohibitive weight, Sylia had been unable to make use of it in any of
the suits and had thought of installing it on the new series motoroids
Dr. Raven came up with. However, with Sylvie's arrival into their group,
she simply had scrapped the plan and tried to lighten the rifle up for
Sylvie to use. Being a boomer allowed her to carry a _lot_ more weight
than any one of them - even with the myomer musculature.
The result had been a hardsuit with a superior set of weaponry. It
would still take a while for all her upgrades to come into fruition but
with Sylvie handling the heavy arms end of the team, it would certainly
let Priss come out of any engagement unhurt - as could be hoped for.
"Did you know this would happen??" Priss shot at Sylia. "That this
damned mission of mercy would be a trap, Sylia?"
	Their white-suited leader nodded.
Priss sighed, wishing Sylia would warn them about these things.
Made it easier, rather than finding out too late and then subsequently
learning that Sylia had actually known it would be one.
Like that frigging Largo incident. God only knew what would have
happened if that madman-turned-boomer-supreme actually managed to get his
hands on the OMS. Lucky for them Anri had managed to finally overcome the
Largo's control over her. Of course, not before Largo destroyed a number
of Genom Headquarters across the globe.
Not that Priss minded, since she hated Genom anyway. Still, the
number of people that died in the particle-beam bombardment weighed
heavily upon her. She still had nightmares about it.
"Who the heck wants to kill us now?" Linna asked. "Largo's dead and
melted into a useless puddle of metal already, right??!!"
"There is a saying that evil could never be truly destroyed," Sylia
replied in a clam manner.
Priss snorted wondering, just how the heck Sylia could be so calm
about trotting into a trap like the proverbial lambs for the slaughter.
"I have a baaad feeling about this," Linna commented.
	"Obviously!!" Priss shot back, sarcastically.
"But, why this trap??" Sylvie asked. "Why did it have to happen
here??"
"To make sure you attended this little get-together, my dear
sexaroid," someone answered for her.
The four startled Knight Sabers whirled around to face a hulking
silver boomer that towered over them by a good four feet. It was massive,
larger than anything they had ever encountered before. Its red eyes
glared at them as it stood there not a hundred meters away, leaning on a
pillar, arms crossed.
Sylia recognized the boomer from the preliminary reports on Genom's
latest boomer research Fargo had given her: the Dreadnought-class
boomers. Designed to replace the somewhat unstable and violent Doberman
model; its firing power rating was just above the DD. What's dangerous
about this new type was its techno-organic brain. For, unlike other
boomer AIs, it had a near capacity for human thought. A little, but that
was enough to make it all the more effective against its enemies.
A smart boomer. One that could fight without having to be limited
to its battle programs. Dangerous... and effective.
All the more reason for Sylia to find some way of addressing this
problem. She had expected it to be here, but she had hoped against it.
The new generation suits had yet to be finished and even with the
motoroids as support, it would take a miracle to stop this virtual
machine of destruction.
Sylia weighed her choices. A trap this had been from the start.
That much had been obvious. Could it be that Genom had finally decided to
get rid of them once and for all?
She mentally chided herself. Genom had always been trying to kill
them. Not that they were successful at times.
She was hesitant in fighting this boomer - hesitant in letting the
others fight it, as well. Something about it screamed bloody murder in
her head.
"Well?" the boomer asked, taunting them to move first.
There was little she could do now save try and gain some valuable
information on this new type. To do so would, of course, entail having to
take the boomer on with its silent challenge.
	"Knight Sabers... GO!!!"

===================

	"Uh-oh."
"What... *pant* now... Leon??" Kyoko asked tiredly.
	"Dead end."
Kyoko blinked, wondering if she should just kill her brother now
and be done with it. She _briefly_ considered it but decided against it.
Nah! Better save that thought for a rainy day.
"So, now what??" she asked again.
Leon pulled out his EarthShaker 2 special from its holster and
popped in one of the clips. This was by far the best one Swift had
created. Better than the old model Swift had given him to test out. The
clip held thirty rounds of chemical rounds powerful enough to melt most
metal. He hoped it worked against boomer metal.
Kyoko eyed the strange looking gun her brother had. "Cute gun.
Think it would work against the boomers?"
	Leon shrugged. "Hope so."
Kyoko put a hand on her face and dragged it down. "Oh, boy."
Leon stared at his sister intently.
	"What's wrong now??"
	Kyoko shook her head. "Nothing!"
	"Really?"
Kyoko sighed. "No. Not okay. But, then again, how do you think I
should feel when we're playing hide and seek with a couple of rampaging
boomers????" she screamed into his ears.
Leon tried very hard not to fall unconscious. He had forgotten
about his sister's piercing voice.
"OWWWWWwwww!!! For crying out loud, Kyoko!!! Don't do that!!!! I
need to have all my faculties if I'm supposed to do my job right!!"
scolded Leon.
"Hah! I assume that it doesn't require your brain."
Leon sighed. "Kyoko, what the hell are we doing?!! Why are we
arguing like kids while boomers are out there killing everything and
anything??"
Kyoko shrugged, sticking her tongue out. "I dunno."
"Maybe it's the world coming to an end," Leon muttered.
"Just what was that again, big brother... hmm...?" she purred
dangerously.
*I'm in hell,* Leon thought. *Give me boomers any day.*
"Uh... nothing!! Really!! Honest!!" he replied.
	"Uh-huh," she deadpanned.
Leon gulped, wishing those damned boomers would hurry up before
something else happened to him. Boomers he could deal with - his sister
was vastly more than he could ever handle.

===================

	"Is the target nearby?"
	"Indeed, she is Ashandarei?"
"Yes, my old _friend_ is there hiding from those puny boomers. We
have her now, Razor."
"Do you think so, my dear?" he asked. "You and her go a long, long
way. Friends since you've met, and now you plan on killing her without so
much as a twinge of guilt??"
	The woman laughed.
"Nothing at all. Not one bit."

===================

	"Priss, watch out!!" warned Linna.
Priss rolled out of the way just as a large concrete slab which had
once been part of the roof landed on the spot where she had just been.
Linna jetted towards her, grabbing the still-dazed Priss away from harm's
way. Laser fire chased the two, Linna weaving in and out of the stores
which blew up behind her. Sylia and Sylvie were trying their best to take
the new boomer out but it proved to be quite stubborn and was holding out
well against the both of them.
All of them had suffered quite a bit of pain from the boomer. Their
hardsuits showed extensive wear and tear, dented, cracked, burnt - you
name it! The new boomer had taken them on without much difficulty.
Quite unlike what they were used to experiencing. After all, they
should be the ones dishing out the punishment. Right now, even Priss
wished that Nene was around. Of course, Sylia was doubtful if Nene's ECM
hardware would work against this type. Sylia sighed, filing the thought
away for later. Another thing to address with the new hardsuits she was
building.
"There has got to be a way to kill that damn thing!!" Priss raged.
"I'm open to suggestions," Linna told her.
"Priss. Linna. We need you two here right now," said Sylia in her
unusually clam voice. That mostly meant trouble.
	"This sucks," Priss commented.
"You're telling me?" Linna asked her companion.
"Got a plan, Sylia?" Priss asked.
"Indeed. Risky, but it's the only way."
"I know I'm going to hate this," Priss began.

===================

Kyoko winced as she scanned her surroundings.
*Damn!!!* she said to herself. *Not now!!!*
"What is it, Kyoko?" Leon asked worriedly, wiping blood away from
his forehead.
Kyoko shook her head. "Nothing!" She grabbed Leon's hand and
dragged him forwards. "Let's go.."
Before both of them could take another step, the wall beside them
blew apart, throwing them both into the air and into a nearby wall.
Kyoko stood up, albeit shakily, coughing at the thickness of the
smoke. "Leon!!" she called out, fear evident in her voice.
*Damn it! I've got to find him and get out of her before --*
	Too late!
"Long time no see, old friend," a voice greeted her form behind.
Kyoko turned to see a slim armored figure walk towards her.
"Illyiana!!"
Accompanying her was another person, this one bulkier than the
first. This one grasped her unconscious brother by the neck, armored fist
carefully wrapped around his victim's throat.
"Let him go!!" she shouted at them.
	Both laughed, eerily cold.
"You have been such a bad girl, my dear Shadow."
"Don't call me that, Illyiana!" Kyoko spat out.
"You should never have challenged our power," she began. "You could
have been one of our most powerful, yet you turned your back upon those
who made you into what you are."
"GRATEFUL?!!!" Kyoko said in disbelieving tones. "Like hell!! They
tried to turn me into some monster and I should be grateful?!! I think
not!! I won't stop until every _last_ one of you is destroyed!!!"
"You do realize that we have to kill you," Illyiana told her.
"So what?! You tried countless times. I already killed five of your
number. If you want to kill me, then come on!!" Kyoko challenged.
With that, Kyoko summoned her own crystal and cried out.
	"Tek Sector!!!"

===================

Two minutes later, the boomer was quite agile and had proven a
difficult target to hit.
Priss charged, her jets on full.
The boomer turned but was too late as Priss landed on its
shoulders, locking both legs around its neck and knuckle-bombed it full
on the face before she slashed down _hard_ with her blade.
	It broke.
Priss stared dumbly at the boomer as it lashed out at her with an
armored fist.
Lucky enough the helmet held together, but not without serious
damage. The blow also had the desired result of throwing her away. Priss
reacted quickly, maneuvering herself to land less painfully.
Linna and Sylia closed in quick just as the boomer had finished
dealing with Priss.
With its sensors still reeling from the damage they took from that
attack, Linna managed to snag one of its arms and sliced it near the
shoulders with her ribbons, just as Sylia lashed out with her own knife,
this time angling a little to slice at a juncture just below what should
be its sternum. The blade plunged in deep, nutrient fluids streaming out
of the "wound".
The boomer roared, feeling the pain of losing its fluids. Making
sure it had something else to occupy it, Sylia activated the small pulse
laser she had and fired it at high cycle. It would ruin the whole array,
but it was worth living through this little test.
"Now, while it's still trying to orient itself!" screamed Sylia.
Sylvie raised the particle cannon, cramming all available power the
micro-fusion plant of her hardsuit had to offer, and shot. A stream of
highly agitated particles screamed towards its target, hitting the boomer
dead center on the chest. It reeled back, most of its chest armor melted
to slag, exposing its more fragile internal structure.
The cannon took too long to charge, needing a full ten seconds to
fully charge up. Ten seconds was a long time when in battle - a reason
why the cannon was normally not part of Sylvie's hardsuit accessories.
Lucky for them they brought it along.
The motoroids had given a good accounting of themselves against
this strange boomer. But in the end, the boomer had destroyed the two
motoroids they brought along and almost taking two of their number out as
well.
Priss and Linna, taking their cue, began blasting away with
everything they've got, flushing out their ammo at the thing. Sylvie and
Sylia went right along with them.
Suffice to say the boomer did not last very long after that.
	Sylia sighed.
Genom had definitely outdone themselves with this model. One! Only
one and it took all they've got just to take it down. God only knows how
they would have fared if they sent another one along with the one they've
fought. Time was against them now. She had to get her prototypes ready
for the next one - doubtless there would be. It was the Genom way.
	"Time to go home."

===================

Somewhere far, far away, in a secluded little valley miles away
from any form of civilization, a middle-aged woman with flowing reddish-
brown hair glanced up the evening sky, sensing an all-too-familiar tingle
in the back of her mind.
	"It's beginning again, isn't it, Nodoka-san??" a gentle voice
asked.
The woman turned to the woman who spoke.
	"Perhaps, Kasumi. Perhaps."
"I assume you're going out, then." It was not a question but a
statement.
Nodoka Saotome nodded. "Yes. I sense another of my kind in
trouble."
"Oh, my. I had thought you had ended the threat of Drakon's
forces."
Nodoka gave a tired sigh. "I have. I destroyed all the Tekkaman who
served Drakon. All of them. It had taken the better part of my life to
eradicate them, even forcing me to allow my husband to go on that
training trip with our son. Now, it comes once again."
"I'll keep dinner warm for you, then."
	"Thank you, Kasumi-chan."
Nodoka stood up and walked for a ways into the garden. Near the koi
pond, she drew out her katana and shouted.
	"Tek Sector!!!"
Kasumi watched as a stream of blue energy lit the skies, en route
to MegaTokyo. "Kami-sama, keep them all safe," she prayed.

===================

Where Kyoko had once stood, a woman in midnight-black armor stood
in her place. Nothing departed from the color scheme save the reddish
glow of her eyes. Her armor was all hard edges, smoothed only by the
feminine cast it took.
In her hands was a wicked weapon of death, a gleaming black shaft
that ended with a reddish glowing sphere toped by a wicked looking black
blade, darker than the rest. Its lower end curved inwards, forming a
jagged edged bill.
The figure who stood before them now was Teknos Shadow.
"If you think you can beat me so easily, think again, Illyiana!!"
She laughed. "I really would not expect anything less from you, my
dear."
"Do you think it's wise for you to take Shadow on by yourself,
Ashandarei?" Razor asked.
"I don't need help, Razor," she replied confidently, brandishing
her own weapon. "I can take her on any day."
"Big talk, Illyiana! Let see if you really can!!"
Teknos Ashandarei launched herself towards her, her weapon held
high as she swooped down on her opponent. Teknos Shadow evaded, firing
off a short energy burst.
Of all the Teknomen, she was one of those who had the rare ability
to generate a lesser form of Z-Tron energy. Hers was piddling compared to
some but was powerful enough at close ranges, especially now that she'd
learned more about herself in this form.
Ashandarei twisted a bit to allow the energy bolt to pass by her.
She grinned, having expected her old friend to do such a thing. Once was
enough - she knew full well just how bad that would have hurt if it hit
her. Unlike any of the others with the same ability, Shadow's TekLaser
ability could punch through almost anything. Even her armor was not up to
blocking such an attack at close range as she had first found out a few
months ago.
"You are not going to get me with that one again, Shadow!!"
	"It wasn't intended for you."
Ashandarei heard the startled cry from behind her. She spared Razor
a quick look to find out that Shadow's TekLaser had surprised him.
The attack had burned through his arm, causing him to drop his
hostage. Blood gushed out of the wound for a few seconds before it
stopped.
She cursed: the fool was too arrogant for his own good. She should
have let the moron take Shadow on! Let Shadow whittle out the weak and
useless. She did not have any more time to ponder the situation when her
opponent smashed her backwards.
Ashandarei cried out as she suddenly found herself smashing into a
particularly large pillar, breaking it as she proceeded to take out
another pillar. She uttered a foul curse as she stood up and engaged her
boosters to tackle Shadow.
Both of them went through a couple of storefronts, demolishing
anything in their path as both struggled to gain the upper hand. Shadow
blocked, straining as the point of Ashandarei's weapon closed in on her.
"You can't win against me! I'm stronger than you could ever be!"
Kyoko grunted with the effort of tossing her unwanted burden.
"Like hell, Illyiana!!" she shouted back. "I don't want to have to
kill you, Illyiana. Just go away, take that bastard with you and leave me
alone!"
Ashandarei laughed. "I think not. You are a liability that must be
erased. No one must know of our existence until it is too late. We will
pave the way for our master's success."
Kyoko silently raged, wishing for some way to save her friend. Try
as she might, killing her would only grant her nightmares, ones that she
would not relish.
She hated what she had to do. If she wanted it all to end, she had
to stop them. Not exactly the easiest of alternatives but it was the only
thing she could do.
Kyoko sliced the pillar next to her and as expected caused the
entire ceiling the pillars supported to cave in. She quickly launched
herself towards her still-unconscious brother, smashing falling masonry
away. Of course, there still was the other one to take care of.
Without losing a beat, Kyoko punched Razor with all her strength,
sending the unaware Teknoman hurtling backwards. She quickly raised her
weapon in front of her as her free arms picked up Leon. A ball of energy
formed directly in front of her, growing still as she launched it towards
the still addled Razor.
It struck, blowing a large hole in the Teknoman's chest before the
ball expended its remaining energy outwards.
"Scratch one more," Kyoko idly thought as she launched herself into
the air, a blue glow suffusing her entire form, cloaking her figure and
that of her brother in a mantle of blue. She paid little heed to the
surprised looks she saw on the pilots of the mini-choppers. They tried to
pursue but she had already broken the sound barrier when they began their
pursuit.
She pondered on what she was to do. She barely remembered the house
Leon lived in save for the phone number. And she could barely go anywhere
in this city without anyone panicking if they saw her in her current
state.
Feeling a little bit lost, she landed on a nearby building, careful
not to attract unwanted attention. Her brother was still out but seemed
to have escaped any form of major injuries save for cuts and bruises. How
he managed thank was beyond her. She just chalked it up to his job.
They've tracked her down. And as intent on killing her as before. She had
power, that much had been quite obvious since she first broke out of the
pod. Powerful enough to have killed three Teknomen without any training.
Lost in thought, she did not notice the figure walk up to her.
"You seem to be someone who could use a hand, my dear."
Kyoko whirled around, startled out of a few years' growth by the
sudden intrusion. She instinctively held out her weapon, only to find a
firm hand grab hold of her arm.
"You need not raise your hand against me, child. I am not one of
those who hunt you."
"Who are you?" she asked, not at all pleased to find someone had
sneaked in on her.
"Someone who wishes to help you in your plight."
"Why?!" she wanted to know. "No one has helped me since I got out
of the pod. Much less a Teknoman!! Why shouldn't I consider you as an
enemy?"
	Teknos Katana sighed.
"Had my intention was to kill you, I would have done so even before
you sensed me, my child."
	"Okay. Talk."
"Come with me then, if you wish to talk. This place is not suited
for overlong discussions."
"Fine. If this is a trap..." Kyoko let the sentence unfinished.
	Teknos Katana chuckled.
"No need to be wary about, child. You're in good hands."
"Yeah, right! I bet!" she muttered to herself before following the
other Teknoman.

===================

"Geez!! This has got to be the largest pile of junk I've ever since
in my life! And I thought mine was pretty impressive," Skuld remarked.
"Well, considering how tight our funds are, we normally don't throw
anything away. Even busted armor or equipment could yield useful spare
parts."
Skuld nodded. "I guess." she conceded.
She spied a damaged power armor of to one side of the repair bay.
Walking toward it, her mind literally danced with ideas on what she could
do with it and the scrap-yard a few feet away. It had most of its armor
panels removed. Even that did not deter Skuld from seeing that this one
had certainly been through a lot. Her eyes scanned the armor, eyeing it
this way and that while her mind began reconstructing the armor before it
had been mangled to bits.
"Someone must have been crazy to have fought against something
obviously a _lot_ stronger," Skuld said. "Either the person who piloted
this one was one crazy person or just an idiot." She analyzed her last
remark. "Ummm... or maybe both."
The tech winced, knowing all-too-well who the person had been.
"Well, we're actually scrapping this one since its too heavily
damaged to repair much less try to."
Skuld smiled. "Oh, okay," she began. "Where do I begin my work?"
The techie eyed the young woman. "You sure are pretty darn
enthusiastic for this kinda job, kid."
"Well, you could say I love technology," she enthused.
The techie nodded. "Uh-huh. Okay, fine. Come with me and I'll show
you where you can start." He turned around and eyed the young woman
critically. "Although I would suggest using overalls, if you don't want
to ruin your clothes."
Skuld blinked. She never paid any attention to her clothes since
she mostly never got it too dirty. Well, if she did, she'd just cast a
spell to clean it. Or Beldandy would coax her out of it to get it washed.
"Sure. Got any in my size?"

===================

Kyoko stared at the beauty that surrounded her. They were
somewhere quite far away from the problems of city life. Isolated was
another word she would use. But then again, it hardly mattered. The
house, while she only saw it when she landed, was beautiful in its own
way.
She quickly moved out of the garden, wondering where she could get
a change of clothes. One thing about transforming was that it totally
left her bare as a babe when she returned to her normal form. She turned
to see Leon slowly coming to.
"Oh, great! Why the heck did he have to pick now to wake up?" she
muttered.
"Perhaps you should wear something, miss. The night is cold and
standing her in the gardens naked even though no one is around is quite
improper for a young lady," a soft, motherly voice told her, the tones
mildly reprimanding.
Kyoko turned to see a very beautiful woman in her twenties, twenty-
five if she got it right, standing behind her, holding out a folded piece
of garment which the woman offered to her. She took the proffered garment
wary of what the strange woman might do next.
	"Thank you...uh... Miss.."
	"Kasumi. Kasumi Tendo."
"I'm Kyoko McNichol." Kyoko bowed. She then gestured behind her.
"The man sprawled on the ground is my elder brother, Leon."
"So you're one of the renegades?" she asked.
"Huh? What do you mean?" Kyoko queried.
The young woman looked thoughtful, the light of the moon
illuminating the woman's features enhancing her already ethereal beauty.
Kyoko blinked as she saw a diamond-shaped tattoo on the woman's forehead.
Weird. But it did not detract from how she looked.
Kyoko mused why such an obviously beautiful young woman would stay
in such a place far away from any sign of civilization.
"Come on in, my dear. The night is chilly and a good round of hot
lemon tea would do well for you. Especially after a duel like that," a
voice told her.
An elderly woman dressed in a fashionable kimono sat beside a low
table, sipping hot tea. The woman had a pleasant face and an easy smile.
Kyoko smiled, feeling the last of the tension she felt leave her.
As if reading her thoughts, "There is little need for you to worry
about your brother. Kasumi will tend to his injuries while we talk."
Kyoko sighed. "Fine. Who are you then?"
"My name is Nodoka Saotome. I was one of the original people who
encountered the Lahadam pods that Drakon had sent back in time to prepare
this world for his arrival. Unlike the others, a few of us managed to
escape being controlled. We were called renegades and hunted down by
those loyal to Drakon. I, myself, had chosen to stay out of that fight
until another opened my eyes."
Nodoka took a sip of her tea before she continued.
"It took many years but we finally did it. We finally stopped them.
That task had also reduced our numbers to a mere handful. Of those left,
only I and one other stayed in Japan. I have lost contact of the others
during the passage of time."
The sudden silence was unbearable. Both drank their tea slowly,
eyeing one another for quite some time before Kyoko spoke up to break the
ice.
"You did not expect this to happen?" Kyoko asked.
"No, we did not. For the number of Lahadam pods sent back in time
was finite. It could not be done again. Still, we prayed that it had
indeed ended when we killed GunArm. However, you're appearance suggests
that our fears were well placed. But having fought for so long, we were
weary and wanted nothing more than to lead normal lives. Free of the
problems we faced as Teknomen."
"So you really hoped no other Teknos loyal to Drakon escaped when
you finished off this GunArm person?"
Nodoka nodded. "Indeed. Tired and sick of all the fights, what else
would be expected of us other than retire. Wars are something you will
fully understand when you find yourself fighting in it," Nodoka sighed.
"It is not something I would wish to see ever again."
	"I guess I understand."
"I fully understand your own hardships, as I have suffered it as
well. We have much to discuss and so little time. Soon, the Hunters will
come looking for you and doubtless have tracked you already to my house
and know of me as well."
	Kyoko gasped.
"There is no need for you to worry. I highly doubt any of them
could be a match for me." Kyoko blinked, wondering just how powerful was
this woman. "I know how that sounds, but it is the truth. You do not
fight Teknomen as long as I have without managing to gain power." Nodoka
smiled. "Come now, you are tired and must rest for the day."
	"What about my brother?"
"You don't have to worry about him. He's sleeping now and will not
wake for at least a few hours. The draught I gave him for his pain will
take care of his injuries," answered the woman named Kasumi who Kyoko
felt could be trusted.
	"Thank you."
Kasumi smiled, one that felt like having the sun pierce through the
gloom of a stormy day. It felt nice to see someone as happy as her. It
just proved that not all things were that bad. Of course, considering
everything that's happened, she doubted it.
"Kami-sama. Please shelter them in your light."
Kasumi closed the sliding doors of the living room and retired to
her own quarters. Tomorrow was going to be a busy day.
Up above in heaven, one star flared brighter than any one of its
siblings, a shining beacon of light and hope. It flared for some time
before it dimmed. Scientists from all over the world would forever ponder
that phenomenon and never find the answer.
After all, some things are better off not explained but taken to
heart.

End of Chapter 5.

Next chapter:

We find more cameos. More mystery as things begin to unfold. The
Goddesses of Past and Present decide to visit MegaTokyo. Along comes a
