I have recently been rereading all the early manga and the Elseworld's
series and an idea came to me.  

I'm not suer if it has been done, but if it has I applogise.

-What if Ryoga didn't exist?

Ranma would be dead.  

I'm not sure when the first time Ryoga saves Ranma's life is, but in volume
24, at least, neither Ranma nor Mousse would have any possible way to
defeat Lime.  Neither of them has anything that can hit hard enough.
Tiger-man would have killed them both.

    The slender girl, Ryako, only gave him a cute, yet somewhat wolfish,
grin.  "Aw, you're no fun, Ryoga," she said, hitting him on the shoulder
playfully.  "Here we are, so close, and you won't let me read what you're
writing?"  She snuggled up against him, smirking to herself.
    Ryoga apparently didn't notice that she was only kidding, because his
face glowed a bright red and he nervously inched away from her.  "C-close?"
 He stammered.  "I...well...you see..."
