You're welcome to spoil me. I suggest to reply via email....
SPOILERS ABOUND! Look no further is you want to keep the suspense!
BTW, these are THE MOST ACCURATE answers. Almost too accurate. They're so
accurate they scare me (since they draw so much from religious belief), and
they'll spoil way too much, unless you've watched everything, including the
movies.
No, I'm not being arrogant. Read for yourself and decide.
Now I guess it's because I know very little about the EVA universe, but
exactly
what are Angels? I've been looking around for info on them, but I couldn't
find
much except that they are made of waves and particles....whatever that means.
Like where do they come from?
God. No, seriously. They're sent by God to test humanity.
Are there more than 16 Angels?
There are 17 that test humanity. There are more, but GOD sent 17 to test
humanity, as in the Talmud.
Is there some kinda motif to these Angels attacking? Like in a biblical
sense?
The Talmud describes an apocalypse where humanity is tested by 17 trials
before we can 'ascend'
How are they detected....before they attack?
Using the technology gained from Adam, the First, and Lilith, the Second.
Lilith is not an Angel in the Talmud per se, but is made one in the series.
In fact, the angels have their names derived from different sources.
Israfel, for example, is an Islamic angel of music.
Is there a reason why they attack? I know it has to do with that seven eyed
Angel (1st Angel?) but I don't really know why.
To test humanity, like I said. The Third Impact 'the rise of humanity into
a higher plane of existence - hypothetically Angelhood' cannot commence
unless humanity passes the 17 trials.
BTW, the 7-eyed angel is Lilith, the Second Angel.
Exactly how and why will the third impact come about if the Angel reaches the
First Angel.
Nothing. The trouble arises when the Angel's reach the SECOND Angel,
Lilith, causing the 'destructive' Third Impact, akin to The Great Flood,
instead of the 'constructive' one that NERV and SEELE is trying to achieve,
which is Ascension. Because the Angels are theorized to be 'of Lilith',
like the EVA's are 'of ADAM', as per Adam's rib gave Eve.
Adam's genetic code gave rise to the EVA's, Eve's of mankinds own creation.
Also, what the hell is Gendo's hidden agenda with Nerv and Seele?
Gendo knows that once NERV defeats all 17 trials, its use to Seele and in
particular Chairman Keihl (hypothesized to be THE WANDERING JEW). Gendo
also knows that in order to
'ascend', mankind must first 'die'. So Gendo maneuvers things in order to
allow himself to be the key to ascension and not Kiehl. Why? I'll answer
that shortly. But first...
The Longinus Lance is the key to the Third Impact. Unbeknowst to Kiehl
(until much later, and then it's too late), Rei's DNA contains the code of
the Longinus Lance as well, which is why Seele took action when Gendo had
Rei propelled the Longinus Lance into moon orbit. Little fdid they know
that Gendo had a backup copy...
What both Gendo and Kiehl want (since Kiehl can't die, he wants to ascend)
is to 'ascend' without physically dying, which, in my opinion, is following
the footsteps of the prophet Enoch, who was brought into heaven while he
still lived, and was raised up as Metatron, the Highest of Angels, and the
Angel of Humanity, and an angel of the Holy Sephiroth.
What's with this Human Complement Project?
The Human Complement (or Instrumentality) Project's goal is to raise
humanity to a higher plane of existence by means of passing the the 17
trials (via NERV) and bringing about the 'constructive' Third Impact.
I hope this helps. Any more questions? ^^

"The story grew in the most convoluted way, as many people will be
surprised to learn. Writing episodically meant that when I finished one
episode I had no idea about what the next one would contain. When, in the
twists and turns of the plot, some event suddenly seemed to illuminate
things that had gone before, I was as surprised as anyone else."
