A Vague Attempt at Chronology (1946-2080)

included in the Maison Ikkoku Guide compiled by the Misery Loves Company.

Takahashi, Naoko Takeuchi, Suzuki Toshimichi, Kenichi Sonoda, Fujishima
Kosuke, Masami Yuuki, Hiroki Hayashi, Izumi Matsumoto, Yuu Watase, Hideaki
Anno, Monkey Punch, and others -- and to the various fans whose love of
these series inspired the creation of the information sources from which I
stole most of my data. :)

(Needless to say, this is incomplete, and doubtless there are several
errors. If you find them, let me know.)
(Lupin III notes: I honestly have no idea when the original Arsene Lupin
stories are set, and thus whether or not its feasible to have Lupin III
born when he is. The date I use means that his comments of being a "young
guy" in the film "Die Nostradamus" (set in 1999) are rather facetious,
since he'll be 48. It's derived from his self-description as a "young
punk" when he first tried to buglarize Castle Cagliostro, a bit more
than ten years before that movie takes place (in 1979). Finally, I'm not
sure how old Lupin's usual gang of associates -- Jigen, Goemon, Fujiko,
and Tottsan -- er, Zenigata, are, relative to him, so I haven't attempted
to place dates for them. Suffice it to say, they're all born, they all
live, and for all I know, they all survive until Crystal Tokyo.)
1946 *An atomic weapon is detonated on Bikini Atoll, awakening the
Sleeper Beneath the Pacific, also known as Gojira. (Jul 1)
*Kenneth Clarke Masefield is born. (Jul 1)
*Gojira attacks a recovering Tokyo, compounding the damage, before
being driven off by a suicidal gambit by Dr. Serizawa Daisuke. An
almost Orwellian campaign of misinformation keeps this event under
wraps for the most part. However, the need to keep a large number
of Westerners who witnessed the monster's rampage "under wraps"
begins the establishment of "The Jyuban Project" to resettle them
in Minato ward, with false Japanese names.
*Callahan's Bar opens on Long Island, New York.
1947 *The Campbell sighting (Jun 21) and the Roswell discovery.
*The Planetary Defense Force is created. Several of its initial
agents are veterans of the Kishin Active Defense Corps.
1949 *Jessica Drummond is born. (Oct 31)

Bareiho during her career in the Kishin Active Defense Corps).
His mother dies in childbirth.
1966 *Kent Masefield has his first encounter with Gojira.

*Arsene Lupin III attempts to get a quick reputation by
burglarizing Castle Cagliostro, and fails.
1969 *The individual who will be known variously as "the Bean Bandit"
and "Roadbuster" is born.
1970 *Nagumo Shinobu (neice to Asagiri Toshio) is born.
*The Harmonian agent known as Alistair McGovern arrives from the
future to observe what his culture terms "The Wonder Years" of
1970-2000.
1971 *Kasuga Akemi meets Kodai Takeshi while the latter is hiking in
the mountains around her father's White Mountain estate. They
fall in love, prompting Akemi to break off her relationship with
Kent Masefield. Akemi and Takeshi are married a few months later.
As he is a younger scion of his family, and her family has no
sons, he assumes her last name.

*Kent Masefield weds Sheila MacMillan.
1986 *Kasuga Kyosuke meets Ayukawa Madoka and Hiyama Hikaru and becomes
involved in an angst-filled love triangle with them.
*Sheila MacMillan is a casualty of the Planetary Defense Force's
first clash with Dr. Michel Andro. Kent disappears.
*Katsuragi Misato is born. (Dec 8)
1987 *Godai Yuusaku and Otonashi Kyoko are married. (Mar)
*The experimental MADOX-11 battlesuit goes on a rampage in Tokyo.
1988 *Godai Haruka is born. (Mar ?)
1990 *Asagiri Toshio becomes Station Manager of Bokuto precinct.
*The whimsical love triangle of Kyosuke, Madoka, and Hikaru comes
to a sad end.
*The so-called "Mechatronic Revolution" is generally held to
commence in this year, with the first primitive construction
robots ("labors") being used in Japan. While various forms of
anthropomorphic vehicles and armored exoskeletons have been in
use by various secret organizations for over fifty years, this
marks the first instance of civillian usage.
1991 *Aino Minako is awakened to her position as Sailor Venus, and
assumes the secret identity of Sailor V. (Nov ?)
*Kent Masefield returns to take command of the Planetary Defense
forces.
*Genom -- General Nippon Orbital Manufacturing -- is formed from a
merger of Taito Petrochemicals, Archu Pharmaceuticals, and Hanto
Steel, with the aim of constructing orbital factories within the
decade. Quincy Masada, mastermind of the merger, is on the board
of directors from the very first day.
1992 *Earth's greatest adventure begins as Serena Tsukino becomes the
Bishojou Senshi Sailor Moon (Mar 7). Her comrades, Sailor
Mercury (Amy Mizuno), Sailor Mars (Raye Hino), Sailor Jupiter
(Lita Kino) are soon joined by Sailor V, who adopts the name
Sailor Venus. They are victorious over the Dark Kingdom, but the
battle results in a loss of memory for all five. (N.B. While the
Jyuban press referred to the Sailors as "Sailor Scouts",
imitating the usage of the girls themselves, other sources refer
to them as "Sailor Senshi" or "Sailor Soldiers")
1993 *The Sailor Senshi are reawakened to deal with a pair of alien
energy vampires, as well as defeating a group of time travelling
invaders.
*Elsewhere, experiments by Dr. Tomoe Souichi ("The Doctor") open
the way for an alien intelligence known as Mistress Nine to
invade Earth, prompting the awakening of Sailor Neptune (Michelle
Kaioh) and Sailor Uranus (Erica Ten'ou).
*Mano Yohko becomes the 108th Mamono Hunter of the Mano clan,
and is soon joined by an "apprentice", Kanzaki Azusa.
*Aethan DeGales visits Japan and makes the acquaintance of Aino
Minako, with whom he begins a long-distance relationship.
*Saotome Ranma is cursed in the Nannichuan (the Spring of Drowned
Girl) of Jyusenkyou (Mar 30), and comes to be engaged unwillingly
to Tendou Akane. (Apr 13)
*The Sailor Senshi clash with the Outer Senshi (Uranus and
Neptune) before ultimately joining forces with them to defeat
Mistress Nine's forces, the so-called Death Busters, during which
clash the powers of Lydia Tomoe (Sailor Saturn) are revealed.
Soon after, the Sailor Scouts do battle with the Dark Moon Circus
of Queen Neherenia.
1994 *Tsujimoto Natsumi is assigned to Bokuto precinct, and soon
becomes partners, roommates, and best friends with Kobayakawa
Miyuki.
*Mano Yohko has her first clash with her "cousin" (actually her
unwitting half-sister) Mano Ayako.
*Madoka and Hikaru are reconciled, largely due to the presence of
a time-travelling Kasuga Kyosuke from 1991. (See "Why Sailor
Pluto Hates The Kasugas" for more information.)
*Belldandy of Asgard manipulates events to bring about her
summoning to Earth by Morisato Keiichi, and is soon followed by
her sisters Urd and Skuld.
*Minako meets Yohko, and forms a friendship.
1995 *The European Super Parliament convenes for the first time.
*Masaki Tenchi unwittingly frees the "demon" Ryouko (actually an
alien space pirate), setting in motion events that lead to
Tenchi's discovery that he is in fact part Jurain.
*The cursed springs of Jyusenkyou are flooded by torrential
rainfall.
*Yuki Miaka and Hongo Yui are drawn into the Universe of the Four
Gods Earth and Sky.
*"Neon Genesis Evangelion" begins its twenty-six episode run,
startling the Gehirn conspirators. (Oct)
1996 *Minako and Lita visit Vancouver. (Feb)
*The Nerima district of Japan is the site of a mysterious
paranormal phenomenon that brings about the first meeting of the
Sailor Senshi, Team Ranma, Tenchi and his associates, the
Goddesses of Nekomi, Kasuga Kyousuke, and the Plantary Defense
Forces. Kunou Tatewaki and Kasuga Akane are killed, as are
others. Patience Masefield, daughter of Patricia Delafontaine
and Kent Masefield is born. (Apr 6-10)
*Kasuga Kyousuke and Ayukawa Madoka are married, with Hiyama
Hikaru present as Maid of Honor. She also catches the bouquet.
*Serena Tsukino and Darien Chiba are married, not without incident.
After a honeymoon in Canada, they move into Room 5 of Maison
Ikkoku.
*Kiyone Makibi is reassigned as Mihoshi's partner.
*Rally Vincent begins her career as a bounty hunter, soon
acquiring a partner in "Minny May" Hopkins. She has her first
run-in with "the Bean Bandit".
1997 *Olivia Asagiri is a courier in Chicago, under the alias
"Riff-Raff". She has confrontations with the Bean Bandit and with
the Gunsmith Cats. (It is widely held that the "Rally" of Bean
Bandit's reminiscences -- "Riding Bean", published 2030 -- is a
composite of Olivia and the actual Rally, assembled from the
somewhat senile ex-courier's confused accounts.)
*Kasuga Takeshi, first child of Kyousuke and Madoka, is born.
*Saotome Ranma and Tendou Akane are married in a peaceful
ceremony. (Peaceful meaning that the only brawl is between
husband and wife ...)
*Mayuka arrives at the Masaki home, claiming to be Tenchi's
daughter. The truth of the matter is soon discovered. (Jun)
*"The End of Evangelion" premieres (Jul). Shortly therafter
<censored>.
1998 *Katsuhito Stengovitch becomes involved in one of Rally's bounty
hunting operations, apparently one involving Aethan DeGales.
*The Tenchi family is cast back in time to the Silver Millenium,
where <censored>.
*First commercial ground-to-orbit spacecraft launched, by Genom.
1999 *The Second Unit of the SV2 Division of the Tokyo Metropolitan
Police is formed. Ohta, Hiromi, Mikiyasu, and Asuma are assigned
to the newly formed unit, while Noa volunteers.
*The first phase of "the Final War" begins, as Hong Kong and
Taiwan attempt to assert their independence from the mainland
Chinese government, followed soon after by end of the ceasefire
between North and South Korea.
*Saotome Ryu, first child of Akane and Ranma, is born, named for
the forest where he was concieved.
2000 *Kyousuke and Madoka's second child, Hikaru is born. (Sep 13)
2001 *Sheila Tenkai is born to Michelle Kaioh and Erica Ten'ou. (Sep
12)
2002 *After Yoshou's final passing, Tenchi is declared heir to the
Jurain Empire, and compelled to choose as his two brides Hakubi
Washuu and Sasami (who is at this point beginning to develop into
Tsunami.)
*Miaka, Taka, Yui, and Tetsuya all vanish without explanation.
2003 *Tokyo is scudded by North Korea in a provacatory gesture.
Numerous targets in Nerima and Jyuban are hit, most notably the
Tendou Dojo. Tendou Souun, Tendou Hinako, Tendou Kasumi, Ono
Tofuu, and Saotome Nodoka are all apparently killed, while
Saotome Genma is incapacitated.
*Soon after, Ourrannos arrives on Earth, and seeks out Sailor
Moon. In the battle that follows, Serena undergoes a final
transformation to Serenity, and Sailor Uranus and Neptune are
killed. Ourranos is defeated. Darien transforms to Endymion
permanently.
*The birth of Serenity prompts the Almighty to withdraw all other
divinities from Earth. (Most of the Hells reluctantly agree to
do likewise, having seen ample evidence of Serenity's power.)
Keiichi vanishes shortly after Belldandy is recalled.
*Amy marries Greg Urawa immediately after earning her doctorate.
Shortly therafter, she meets Akagi Ritsuko.
2004 *Asuma and Noa marry. Allegedly, Yamazaki Jun meets Godai Haruka
at this wedding.
*The Crystal Tokyo Society is formed, incorporating the Planetary
Defense Forces. Their sudden disappearance causes great confusion
in the United Nations, leading to discussion of a need for a new
permanent peacekeeping force. Ranma, Akane, and Nabiki are all
recruited by the Society, the last as a deep cover agent in Genom.
2005 *Kyoko Zeppelin suffers a nervous breakdown from unspecified
causes, and commits suicide in an insane asylum.
2007 *Leon McNichol is born to Richard and Yoriko McNichol. (Jul 16)
*Prototype fusion reactor generates power for six hours. (Nov 9)
2008 *Injuries prompt Nakajima Ken's retirement from the police. He
weds Miyuki.
2009 *Natsumi retires from the police to marry Toshio.
*Katsuhito Stengovitch (now calling himself Katsuhito Stingray)
marries Rally Vincent.
*Akagi Ritsuko is killed in a botched experiment involving a
prototype neural interface.
*Urawa Ritsuko is born. (Dec 12)
2010 *Sylia Stingray is born. (May 31)
*The Treaty of Hong Kong ends the first phase of "The Final War",
and work begins on reconstructing the war-damaged city.
2011 *The Space Development Public Corporation is formed. It is
intended to act as a "parks service" for the spaceways.
2012 *Yamazaki Linna is born to Yamazaki Jun and Godai Haruka. (Oct 22)
Their marital status is unclear.
*Nakajima Natsumi is born.
2013 *Olivia Asagiri is reported as missing.
*Priscilla S. Asagiri is born to Natsumi and Toshio. (May 27)
*The Communist Chinese government attempts to consolidate its
control over certain parts of its territory that have been in
rebellion since Imperial times. The fortress of the Musk Dynasty
is bombed, as is Joketsuzoku. The Sailor Senshi assist the
Joketsuzoku, relocating them to the Australian outback.
2014 *Nicholas Romanova marries Patience Masefield (Apr 10).
Patience's mother, Patricia, disappears shortly after the
ceremony.
*Nene Romanova is born to Nicholas and Patience Romanova. (Aug 13)
*The United Nations Strategic Space Defense Force is chartered to
serve as an international militia with the authority to shoot
down nuclear missiles.
2015 *Mackinnison "Macky" Stingray is born. (Jan 25)
*The first commercial fusion reactor goes online in Switzerland.
*Genom begins strategic purchases and buyouts which will put it in
a position of power after the 2nd Kanto Quake.
2017 *Kunou Kodachi kidnaps Sheila Tenkai, whom she insanely believes
to be the "Osage no Onna" with whom her brother was infatuated.
Sheila is rescued by Jupiter, who then beats Kodachi to death.
As a result, Jupiter is stripped of her powers by Serenity. For
her protection, Sheila is placed in suspended animation.
2018 *Saotome Kasumi (aka "Senshi" Saotome) is born to Ranma and Akane,
their fifth child.
2019 *Rally Stingray disappears on a visit to America.
2022 *Katsuhito Stingray is killed in a "tragic accident".
*Intercepting packages which Katsuhito had intended for his
children, Brian J. Mason undergoes "cyberevolution" (his own term
for it), and "permits" Sylia to undergo the same process in an
attempt to create the perfect mate.
*The USSD's orbital beam satellites go online.
2023 *Saotome Ryu weds Kasuga Hikaru.
2024 *A permanent Moonbase is constructed.
*Excavation of the ruins of the ancient Moon Kingdom begin, under
an *incredible* veil of secrecy.
*Kasuga Madoka dies as a result of an extremely rare tropical
virus contracted in Hawaii.
2025 *The Great Kanto Earthquake. Toshio and Natsumi Asagiri are
killed, orphaning Priscilla (whom the Nakajimas incorrectly also
believe to be dead.) Also among the dead are Greg Urawa, Ikari
Yui, Katsuragi Misato, and Andrew Delafontaine.
2026 *Extensive oil and mineral deposits are discovered on Antarctica.
Many nations announce that they will not renew the Antarctic
Treaty in 2041.
*The SDPC establishes orbital station Genaros-1 as a transfer
point to Moonbase.
*If, as is suspected, Tendou Nabiki becomes a double agent for
Genom, her turning occurs in this year.
2027 *The SV2 Division (by now using battlemovers, rather than patrol
labors) is incorporated into the newly formed ADPolice. Goto is
forcibly retired.
*Linna's parents are killed by a "runaway boomer". She briefly
lives with her grandparents in Maison Ikkoku.
2028 *Masaki Noboyuki dies under circumstances which cause his son a
great deal of embarassment, and which lead to the banning of Bu
33S class boomers.
2029 *The Polar War between China (with allied forces from Argentina)
and Neo-NATO begins.
2030 *The former "Bean Bandit" dies immediately after dictating his
memoirs.
*Kasuga Kyousuke dies in his sleep, of apparent natural causes.
He is survived by his five children.
2031 *Priscilla, Linna, and Nene are recruited by Sylia to form the
Knight Sabres.
*The exploration ship Galileo II is launched for Jupiter.
*Nakajima Ken dies of a heart attack.
2032 *Nakajima Natsumi finds employment as a private investigator (and
occasional operative for the Crystal Tokyo Society) in California.
2033 *Largo, the "Boomer Messiah", destroys Genom's towers in Sydney,
Berlin, and Chicago, sending the corporation reeling for nearly a
year.
2034 *Aethan Degales initiates Nene Romanova into the arts of magick,
before being destroyed.
*<Censored>
*The SDPC relocates its headquarters to Moonbase, increasingly
being called Luna City.
2036 *"Senshi" Saotome weds Hibiki Sho, a distant cousin to Hibiki
Ryouga, after he beats her in combat, despite (or rather because
of) her parents' best efforts to talk her out of it.
2041 *Quincy's condition begins an irreversible decline, and he elects
to destroy life on Earth before he dies. The Sailor Senshi
mobilize their allies against him. The SV2's Second Unit is
reunited, and suffer heavy casualties fairly early on in the
struggle that ensues. Ultimately, a nuclear weapon is detonated
in the heart of Genom Tower, allegedly by Sylia Stingray. Most of
MegaTokyo's downtown district is wiped out in the blast, and
countless people are killed.
*The deaths of most of the heads of corporate Genom deals a death
blow to the megacorporation. Several factions actually manage to
prosper, including the newly formed Conseption Corporation,
composed of several Genom biotech firms. Genom's space assets are
immediately divided up by the other members of the SDPC, in a move
that leaves them open to a takeover by the Crystal Tokyo Society,
which immediately begins to orient the corporation towards
colonization instead of exploitation.
2043 *Graviton City is built near Olympus Mons, on Mars -- ostensibly
as the first step towards colonization, but actually to provide an
early defense system against possible alien invasion. Excavation
of the Cydonian pyramids begins, under security unseen since the
discovery of the ruins of the Moon Kingdom.
2045 *So-called "Nomad" settlements begin to be established in the
asteroid belt.
2047 *Several ex-Genom corporations begin a crash program to terraform
Venus, dubbed Project: New Earth.
2049 *A space capsule is discovered passing through Martian orbit, and
recovered shortly before its arrival in Earthspace by SDPC
investigators. It proves to contain a computer chip which
contains the sum total of the scientific knowledge and entire
history of the Solnoid race, which is determined to have been
extinct for over 300,000 years.
2050 *The true purpose of the Cydonian pyramids on Mars is revealed, as
explorers complete a spell begun at the very end of the Silver
Millenium. Roughly 100 years worth of terraforming is
accomplished in minutes, restoring breathable atmosphere to the
planet. The "instant" terraformation of Mars is a major blow to
the corporations involved in Project: New Earth, but the huge
sums already invested in it ensure that it is kept on track.
*Working from plans contained on the Solnoid probe, a slightly
derranged SDPC scientist constructs a "Catty" android, and
downloads the backup of Catty's memories and personality enigrams
into the new body.
2053 *Catty is rescued from her life of sex slavery by the Sailor
Senshi, and assists them in understanding the Solnoid technology.
2054 *Mercury begins a relationship with Hibiki Ryouga while he is
assisting her in researching "Methods of Immortality", and
persuades her to conduct an experiment combining mermaid's flesh
and braintaping, which grants him a form of immortality but
alienates him from Mercury.
2055 *Mizuno Ryouko is born. (Aug 8).
2059 *The United Nations headquarters is relocated from Geneva to
Genaros-1.
2062 *The terrorist group Free Mars begins activities with several
bombings, including the one that claims the life of Saotome
Akane. The various corporate and governmental bodies which "own"
the Martian colonies attempt to tighten their grip on them.
*While recovering from injuries sustained in the explosion which
killed his wife, Saotome Ranma and Kuonji Ukyou slowly begin a
relationship.
2063 *After several months of intense fighting, the Martian Coalition
wrests its freedom from Earth's control (Mar 15), and promptly
disintegrates into dozens of warring principalities (Apr 1).
2064 *The first colonists arrive on Venus, including every single
employee of the corporations involved in Project: New Earth.
2065 *The First Budokai is fought in China (Dec). Saotome Ranma is
smuggled back to Earth by the Sailor Senshi to fight as their
agent. Despite an early defeat by his long time adversary Tarou
(who murders "Senshi" Saotome) he comes back to defeat both the
daemonic sponsors of the event.
2066 *Kuonji Gennosuke is born (Jan 16).
*Shampoo of the Joketsuzoku arranges for Kuonji Ukyou to fight her
great grandmother Cologne, a battle Ukyou does not survive.
Ranma Saotome returns to Mars a day later, and in a fury battles
Cologne to the death.
2068 *The Venerian colony declares itself independant of Earth.
2073 *Former SDPC scientist Zefram Cochrane's test flight of his warp
drive shuttle, with his financial backer, Linna Yamazaki, as
co-pilot. Linna dies shortly after the ship comes out of warp
near Alpha Centauri.
2078- *The Nanoclysm. The "Nodachi" virus, originating from the
2080 megacomputer of a Manila-based biotech firm, infects the vast
majority of the Third Generation boomers (those built using the
information on the Sigma Narses probe) and sends them on a
genocidal attack on the human race. With the assistance of the
Galaxy Police, the Sailor Senshi coordinate the evacuation of
Earth's orbit shortly before nuclear war breaks out. Eight
billion humans die over the next two years, and Earth's fragile
ecology is tipped over the edge into nuclear winter.
*The Galactic Union places a quarantine on the Inner Sol System,
enforced by the Galaxy Police Battleship "Mihoshi" and Tsunami.
With access to space travel restricted, and no possibility of
escaping the planet, the Nodachi-boomers elect to commit mass
suicide rather than surrender to the Galaxy Police.
*The Sailor Senshi begin their efforts to heal the planet's
wounds, hindered by the daemon-kind that have taken advantage of
the injuries to Earth's biosphere to invade.
*Count Magnus Lee, a vampyre elder claiming descent from Vlad
Tepes, conquers most of Eastern Europe in conjunction with a
conspiracy of other vampyres.
*The Diaspora. Over two hundred million Earth born humans,
believing that their world has been wrecked beyond repair, begin
to spread out over the Galaxy, founding the worlds that will, a
generation later, transform the Galactic Union into the United
Galactica.
