Just it'd be nice if the more established authors,
when they had a little extra time, would read a
fic or two by a relatively unknown people, and
make suggestions. I know I've posted maybe...
3 or 4 FFIV fics, and have gotten replies from
Azusa and Phillip Masters... that's it. I also got
one reply for a Ronin Warriors fic I posted. This
isn't to say that no one's reading them (which...
actually is probably true ^_^) but that's what
some people assume.
I completely agree with what you've said (although there are more
established authors that DO provide C&C on some fics (Gary Kleppe comes
to mind, but there are many more); it's just not as frequent as some of
us eager beaver type newbies). You have to remember, though, that the
majority of the list (I think) isn't very familiar with some of the less
popular series out there. Granted FFIV and Ronin Warriors are one of the
more well known series, they're still not anywhere close to Ranma, Sailor
Moon, Eva, Tenchi, etc. Also, some people who do know of the series
might not enjoy reading fics about them. Basically what I'm saying is
that you have a much smaller readers pool than say, a Ranma 1/2 fic.
Keep that in mind when you're looking out for C&C.
Also (hehe, hope I don't offend too many of the more established authors
out there), what's so special about these established authors providing
C&C? Granted their writing is at the very least better than the rest,
but does that mean their commenting and analytical skills are better than
some of us? Undoubtedly some (most?) are, but on the same token, some
aren't. Don't place so much on getting a response from an established
author as opposed to someone who isn't as well known (but don't ignore
then, either).
Besides, how do you become an "established"
author, if no one reads your fic to begin with?
Again, that's the wrong attitude to take. It's not only the established
authors whose opinions dictate the popularity of a fic. It's the
regular, casual readers who write posts saying, "I liked this, etc." as
well. I will admit that many people look to these established authors
for advice on what to read, but IMO, everyone should remember that ever
person's tastes are different. Fics I enjoy merely for their simlicity
and WAFFiness (is that a word?) some would consider too basic or lacking
in elegance. *shrug* To each his/her own, ne?
Anyway, enough ranting. <Kevin peers around, waiting for Tybalt's demon
head to appear> Hope you realize everyone's opinion matters, and that
some of the more established authors' opinions aren't any more valid than
the rest of ours. Ja.
