Good idea.  I believe that Richard Lawson already wrote a Robotech story
that sort of uses this idea.

Will we see Ranma and Akane break up?  Godai and Kyoko?  Madoka and Kasuga?
 Haruka and Michiru?  Do they fall out of love while young or as a married
couple?  In reference to the last pair, what about immortal or very
long-lived characters?  Is it reasonable to expect a couple to stay
together for centuries?  What about this scenario - Serenity and Endymion
like, but no longer love each other.  However, they remain together because
of their perceived duty to the planet.  How and where do they find love
without risking political instability?
