I feel I should take this opportunity to state that 
Ranma does NOT talk like that.  He speaks very 
informally in Japanese, but informal speech in 
Japanese is NOT the same as bad grammar/poor 
English.  To a Japanese speaker, the Japanese 
Ranma sounds like a crass young man.  To an 
English reader, the horrible English Viz evidently 
"assigned" him makes him sound like a 
subintelligent idiot.  Thus the common 
misconception that he is stupid, which he's not.  
Same goes for Ryouga.

Very good point, Deuce.  A lot of my Japanese speaking friends are quite
adamant that any sort of dubs inevitably loose some of the flavor of the
anime because of the poor translations.  Ranma doesn't really sound like
an idiot in the Japanese videos; it's just Viz's translations and poor
characterization of Ranma that gives that impression.  I'm sure Genma
didn't teach Ranma a whole lot of grammar or politeness (except for
filial obedience), but that doesn't mean he is stupid.  I think Ranma
could be characterized as without class, but not, as Deuce so eloquently
puts it, a "subintelligent idiot."  Ja.
