Book 1, Prologue:
She fell through the darkness, falling farther away with every passing second. The searing pain that filled her being drove an overwhelming urge to escape. Complex dimensions and universes passed her by with increasing speed as she used her powers to flee the pain and loss of self that was her doom.
As the pain lessened she began to regain the ability to think rationally. Soon she came to a stop and assessed her situation. It was not good. Her power was almost depleted, her mind was fragmented, and her life-force was almost gone.
There was only one possible solution to be found in her memories that might work. She needed a Les'tarlta partner, or she would die. Les'tarlta were as rare a thing as there was, and she felt despair fill her heart. Only once in the entire history of the Cthulos race had an Iczer class Cthulos managed to bond with a compatible Les'tarlta. Her name was Iczer-One and her bondmate was a human named Nagisa.
Stretching her mind to its limits she began to sweep the nearest galaxy clusters with her powers. Galaxy after Galaxy came under scrutiny, and failed. Using her last strength she scanned a small whirlpool shaped Galaxy.
Shock! Contact! A mind and soul filled with the same desire to be the best. A mind consumed by indecision and conflicting desires, a strength of will that awed her. She had found her Les'tarlta.
The link was weak and barely established. Yet the power she felt filling her was incredible, unlike the Iczilion energy she knew, but just as strong and filling.
As the power filled her body , she began the journey that would join her with her soul bondmate. In her weak condition it would take at least a year to reach the world her potential Les'tarlta lived on. Time enough to use the link to learn the language and customs of that world.
For the first time she felt hope. It was time for a new beginning, a chance to become 'herself' and not just a reflection of someone else.
The Iczer-class Cthulos known in another universe as Atros, began her long journey through the darkness. As she flew toward the Milkyway Galaxy a question entered her mind. "What kind of name is Ranma, and what rank does Saotome establish?"
