Books are worthless to most people in a situation like this.  It's kinda
hard to eat paper.  They might be used as firewood on cold nights, though.

other universe instead of just instinctively teleporting inside his own.

I can think of a very simple reason.  

The Madoka he loves *isn't there*.  Right now Kazuya's got her brainwashed
to be a nice fluffy little plaything.  One of the things that Kyosuke finds
attractive in Madoka is her strength of will.  With that gone, his mind
inadvertently takes him to the closest analogue to 'his' Madoka there is.  

Beyond that, I'm asking a different sort of why: Why did Richard decide to
take Kyosuke here, of all places?
