I plead guilty on that one. Again, it's just my opinion, but I really
don't care for the Ranma anime where it differs from the manga.

That's not really fair, though. For a lot of people, the anime is a
lot
more accessible (and cheaper) than the manga.

Only if you don't know where to look. The Sasuga Japanese bookstore
in Cambridge, MA has Ranma 1/2 manga for under $7 a book (*heck* of a
lot cheaper than anime), and if they don't have the particular volume
you want in stock, they order it from Japan at no extra cost. You can
email them, but the quickest way to order is to just give them a call.
 They're web page address is:

http://world.std.com/~sasuga/

I love these people. They've bent over backwards for me to keep me
well-stocked in all kinds of manga.

So, if you're used to bying the anime, manga is a *LOT* cheaper. And
if, like me, your Japanese is rudimentary at best, there's the
frame-by-frame translations of the manga on Chris Rijk's Ranma 1/2 FAQ
page.

I *do* like the anime -- it's what got me into Ranma in the first
place. But really, if you have the chance to read the manga, the
anime will often seem just silly in comparison -- especially where
ever the animators take liberties on Takahashi's original work. When
they do, it's like... well, a bad fanfic.

Ja ne,

Krista
