I'd thought of something like this, but how do you reconcile Akane with

many of the UY TV episodes revolve around Ataru's lecherousness and Lum's
indignation, this is more than a piddling puzzle.

In fact, what stopped me from doing this fusion was this very difficulty. 
Who -is- really qualified to fit Ataru's role?  Probably Happosai, but
unless it's Cologne chasing him, I don't really see it happening.
Actually, even if it was Cologne as Lum chasing him, I -still- can't see
it. 

Ryouga, as Akane's jealous would-be boyfriend (a la Shinobu.)

Shinobu generally attacked Ataru, not Lum.  Unless you think Ryouga should
smack Akane around?  This is not a generally accepted thing.

The sardines weren't worth the trouble.  A few more shots, then 
Ryoga-san would overheat and explode.  Ducking around a corner, 
I managed to lose him as I entered the ramshackle residence of 
my Anime supplier.

One look at his face and I knew that I was betrayed.  "Tell me."
I insisted.  He refused, so I slammed him against the wall.
"Last chance.  Where can Ranma-Ranma find good fanfics?"
"Try Jason Liao." he whispered, before he slumped to the floor.
I heard the sounds of a door splintering as I left through the 
window, one step ahead of Tendo Heavy Industries...
