Grumbling, Asuka walked towards the testing area. Another great
day in the last, best, and only hope of of mankind, NERV. Whoopee.
Now, if that stupid Shinji hadn't gone and...

Asuka's inner monologue came to an abrupt stop when she rounded
the corner. Greeting her there was a downright surreal scene.
Wondergirl was there, standing in front of girl who had a wilder
hair than the average fanfic author. The two girls were standing
motionless, staring at each other. Around them Misato and
a crowd of NERV personnel were watching.

Asuka pushed her way to Misato's side. "Misato, what the hell's going on?"

"Oh, hi Asuka. Do you want to place a bet?" The NERV head tactician
answered.

"Bet?"

"Yeah, whether Rei or Key wins?"

Asuka blinked, confused. And being who she was, she didn't like 
being confused and was quickly growing angry.

"Misato, could you _please_ tell me what's going on!?"

"Oh, yeah, right." Misato blinked, as if just remembering something. 
"Rei here had just finished the latest tests and was walking
to the elevators when Key, that's the girl with the wild hair, by
the way, walked around the corner, almost colliding with Rei.
They both stopped, and... well, this is how it's been since then. Neither
of them seems to be willing to step aside."

"Oh. Who's this Key person anyway?"

Misato shrugged. "I'm not entirely sure. I've heard she's some kind of 
ace in the medical department's sleeve. The sort of thing they use when
all else fails. Anyway, you want to place a bet? They've been at it
for" Misato glanced at her watch "two hours and twenty minutes now, so
I don't think it'll last much longer."
