Author's Notes: This fic occurs in the same 'reality' as the two previous
Face-To-Face & Patience (both stories and other fics avaible at the link
above)
Also The fic is split up in sections for ease of reading and understanding.
Also (again....) Part four has some lime in it.

PART ONE: End Game
The job just went all to hell. It was a simple information run on a minor
Genom research installation. Nene and Linna would grab the info while She and
Sylia would run guard or interference if things went to shit. Things went to
shit when a swarm of boomers were waiting for Nene and Linna the moment they
entered the building. Priss shoved the stray thoughts from her mind and
activated her jump jets streaking over Nene and Linna as they ran across the
grounds with Sylia a meter or so behind her.
"Nene, Linna get out!!" Sylia screamed through the comm. net. Sporadic
bursts of fire erupted from her arm cannon. Energy bolts rained down on the
boomers.
They landed at almost point blank range with the mass of boomers. Their was
no time or room to maneuver just to fire. The better marksman would win.
Desperately, Priss unleashed a hail of fire. A primal part of herself reveled
knowing that if she died, that it would be fighting. Boomer after boomer were
scythed down like grain trying to power up their weapons. It lasted two
seconds. Around them lay the shattered corpses of a half a dozen boomers.
"Sylia?" She breathed raggedly.
"I'm fine, Priss?"
"Fine." Their was almost a serene feel to the air. In almost disbelief they
looked around only to see nothing come to attack.
"Incoming!!!" Nene shouted desperately watching a blimp suddenly appear on
her sensors. A painful whine cut through the air.
"PRISS!!!!" She heard Sylia scream when the explosion blotted out
everything.....
"Almost there, come on, hang out a little bit longer." Priss awoke to find
her armored body being carried in Sylia's hardsuited arms. Streaks of crimson
ran from holed portions of her armor. She felt light headed, half
in a daze.
Sylia's voice sounded so ragged and so soft. A burst of laser fire erupted
behind them. A single bolt hit the white hardsuit burning its way through the
armor and into the soft flesh underneath.
"SYLIA!!!" She cried out in horror as she fell out of her friends arms. She
unleashed a volley of blasts in the general direction of the boomers. An
explosion followed; she took no joy in it. "Get up," she cried rising shakily
to her knees. Their was blood everywhere.
Sylia's hardsuit lay face down a burn the size of a 500 yen coin in her
armor. Priss grabbed her arm trying to drag her to her feet.
"Go, evac point five hundred meters...get Nene...Linna out of here." Priss
edged her helmet against Sylia's raising both face shields.
"No damn it!!" She screamed eyes burning into Sylia's. "We all get out of
her." Sylia's pain riddled expression turned soft and a strange smile came to
her lips. Price's eyes widened in surprise recognizing the
look. An eternity seemed to pass as they gazed into one another eyes. Sylia
mouthed something then shoved her away.
A pair of arms clamped onto her suit from behind pulling her away. She
struggled fiercely only to have another pair join the other help force her
forward towards the evac position. She screamed watching blast of blast
streak from Sylia's arm cannons desperately trying to buy a little more time.
The cannon went silent moments later followed by a massive explosion....
PART TWO: Contemplation and Quenched Flames
Quincy gazed out into the night at the panoramic view of the massive
cityscape from the darkness of his office. The ever bright evening lights of
the city reflecting off the soft blanket of recently fallen snow gave off an
awe inspiring sight that would cause most photographers to dive for their
cameras. He swiveled his chair and shifted his sight to the simple chessboard
sitting off to one side of his office.
"Victory," he murmured, "such a bitter taste. Victory for those fools down
below." He closed his eyes imagining the bottles of champagne and toasts his
underlings would be enjoying. A celebration for the victory over
the Knight Sabers. They were defeated and even worse, shattered beyond
recovery. Sylia was dead; the rest of the Knight Sabers were demoralized and
at loss without their one guiding force.
His trusted agents reported it all to him. Priss, the seemingly indomitable
force, was drinking herself away trying to escape her inner demons and
shattered heart as her battered body recovered from its injuries....
Mackie and Nene were huddled in embrace trying to comfort one another....
Linna was trying to drive away the emptiness in her stomach in the arms of
yet another lover....
* * *
Pain flared across her entire body as she regained consciousness. A scream
worked between her lips. "SYLIA!!" She cried out. Gritting her teeth in
pain, she sat up looking around taking in her surroundings. She lay on
the couch in Doctor Raven's garage.
"Priss," A rough voice shouted, "lay back down."
"Fuck you, Raven." she growled climbing off the couch. Limping shakily,
she approached the doctor. "Where's my suit?" She demanded.
Doctor Raven shook his head, "It's damaged almost beyond repair. She's dead
and nothing is going to bring her back." She clenched her fists and slugged
him in the jaw. He didn't bother to dodge or block and took the
blow; he didn't fall or turn the other cheek.
"Feel better?" He spat a mixture of blood in his saliva.
"Get out of my way." She pushed her way past the doctor and struggled each
step.
Raven didn't turn to address her, "You lost a lot of blood, theirs hairline
fractures across both your legs, and your torso is basically one big bruise."
Priss propped herself on the doorway.
"I don't care as long as I take as many as those fuckers I can with me." She
croaked as tears worked their way to her eyes. -Death, it'd be a gift.- She
looked down at her hands seeing Sylvie's and know Sylia's blood on them.
-Soon Sylia, real soon Sylia- Again, she clenched her fists this time in
anger. Drops of blood dripped from her palms.
"Sylia wouldn't have wanted you to die this way. She saved your life for a
reason." Raven replied lowly. She paused.
And She remembered:
::A soft expression graced her face and lips burning through the injuries her
body had suffered. Her once cold brown eyes warmed gazing into her eyes. The
walls of ice lifted from fell away allowing her to see the real Sylia. And
she saw. The fury that had driven her life. The painful loniness. Then
something more something so hidden so sacred....
The moment lasted for an eternity. "I wish I told you sooner...," she
whispered and mouthed the last three words shoving her away. And as she
kicked and pulled against the two pairs of arms, their eyes met once more and
a look of fear and silent regret passed across Sylia's face.::
-Oh god...Sylia...Sylia..I never knew.-
"Come-on," The older man took her arm and helped her onto the bed. Next, he
walked to his desk retrieving a bottle and sitting on the floor by the bed.
"Brandy I've been saving a long time. Almost a hundred years old." He undid
the cork and took a swig. "To comrades in arms," he toasted recalling a
conflict long forgotten. Priss accepted the bottle and took her own swig
recalling the women who loved her. Love that she never knew existed..Love she
never would be able to return.
"Sylia," she murmured.
PART THREE: Broken Wings
::A massive explosion rocked the Sky Carrier even though it was half a
kilometer away from the blast. Quickly, he armed the weapons systems and
shifted the engines out of standby. Then he waited.
The three hardsuits pulled themselves through the rear hatch. All were
scored and battered. Nene and Linna were fighting Priss tooth and nail to
keep her away from the hatch. All three lost their helmets somewhere along
the line. Fear cut its way into the pit of his stomach.
"Where's Sylia!!" He screamed looking back into the passenger bay.
"We can't just leave her!!!" Priss screamed ignoring the blood creeping
from her armor. Linna let go of Priss's struggling hand. Three protrusions
rose from her right fist. Quickly, Linna whipped it around and struck Priss's
suit into the upper shoulder. Sparks of electricity leaped across the cabin.
Priss collapsed ceasing to struggle. Watched in horror.
"GET US OUT OF HERE!!"
"Where's Sylia!!" He yelled once more.
"She's dead!!!" Nene screamed fear and rage mixed in her green eyes. The
Sky Carrier leapt to the air pulling a near vertical climb. Nene and Linna
cried out in surprise. Thrusting the stick forward, he dived towards
the installation. He became a demon of battle every single ounce of his being
geared towards destruction.
F ngers depressed triggers unleashing salvo after salvo of unguided rockets
across the boomer infested grounds of the installation. Eyes saw clearly
picking out targets and identifying danger. His arm moved
on its own dodging ground fire. Directly over the site of the massive
explosion, he stopped in a hover a few meters off the ground.
The Vulcan spat hundreds of rounds a second into the small installation
cutting down scrambling researchers, soldiers, boomers, sparing no man or
women not even the innocent. Security guards shot back moments
before their bodies were ripped apart by transonic slugs; their small arms no
match for the thick armored craft. Seconds later the vulcans ran out of
ammunition, and the Sky Carrier shot out into the darkness.... ::
Mackie pulled open the ammo box revealing a half dozen 50mm shells. Grabbing
one at a time he, quickly yet carefully, loaded up the autobazooka and the
reload bins that took the space that once was taken up by the
hardsuit carrying case. He grabbed another box and pulled out a variety of
small arms; those went into a large storage space in the power armor's legs.
He kept a semi-automatic 9mm and shoved in into the shoulder holster around
his interface 'soft' suit.
The elevator door behind him opened.
"Haven't you killed enough?" A feminine voice asked. Mackie closed his eyes
replaying the massacre he inflicted on the installation's personel.
"Nene, you should be resting." The young women strode past him. She mumbled
something under her breath. Mackie ignored her finishing up his check on his
own power armor. A slight rustling could be heard.
"Nene, what the hell?" He cursed. Turning, he saw Nene pulling on her torn
interface suit. "are you doing?"
"If your so eager to die, I might as well come with you." She said through
gritted teeth. He felt a cold wind pass through his heart.
"No." He said harshly.
"Your stubborn as Priss, and your sure trying hard to get yourself killed
like her too." She replied coldly grabbing a pistol from the recently opened
box. Anger coursed through his very being only to be released in one
vicious blow. His fist rammed into his power armor rocking it ever so
slightly.
"I know what your trying to do. And all I have to say is, how can you act
that way?" he asked, angry tears welling in his eyes. "She was your friend
and my sister!"
Nene met his gaze, and he saw tears coursing down her face. A wave of shame
passed over him. He wavered and looked at the cold ground.
"She was my friend, and no one is going to replace that part of my heart that
she filled." Her voice was strong even as the tears stained her face; their
were no sobs. She stepped towards him taking him in her arms. Their lips met
in a bittersweet kiss. He hugged her tightly feeling her warmth "I don't
want to have another part of my heart die. I don't want to lose you." She
whispered parting their kiss.
"It hurts so much," Mackie said softly. Nene nodded stroking his hair.
Their tears mixed as they sobbed silently in embrace.
"I know. I know."
PART FOUR: Emptiness
Linna gasped as the fire ice-feeling ran down her spine from the caress.
::The boomers appeared out of the ground bursting through the soil. Dirt and
bits of grass clung to the skeletal looking skulls.::
Hungrily she pressed her lips to his pressing herself into him.
::"Nene fire the ECM's!!!" Bolts of highly focused energy slashed around
them.::
She arched her back feeling the fullness within her. The darkness festered
and grew.
::"Priss!! We've got to get out of here"
"We can't leave her!!!"
"She's.." Priss reached out towards Sylia just as the explosion lit up the
night sky.
"Theirs nothing we can do!!"::
She groaned as the warmth grew within her reaching its climax. A cry escaped
her lips.
::"You bitch. You left her to die!"
"Priss I.."
"Money grubbing mercenary bastard. You never cared did you! All
you wanted was the cash!!"::
She pressed herself deeper into his arms trying to warm the emptiness in her
breast. His snores drowned out the sound of her dry sobs. She could've gone
back. Her hardsuit was the fastest. She could have fought....
The word rang in her mind. ::coward coward coward coward coward coward
coward::
PART FIVE: Dreams
Their was nothing left for him in this world. All his hopes and dreams of a
successor were gone. It was too late to train another. All the time and
effort he had spent grooming her was lost the moment she donned that
first hardsuit. Her unbendable moral rigidness was her downfall as was her
father's. It was his fault.
He did not deny it. It was his misjudgment. He believed it was time to
force Sylia to sacrifice one of her Knight Sabers. Instead she had sacrificed
herself. "Open memory core security level omega one. Access level
omega one. The computer system complied to his voice authorization and opened
access to Genom's entire database. "Label file S. Stingray closed and archive
it." He put his hands to his face wearily.
It wasn't supposed to happen that way. Nene was supposed to be with Sylia
the whole way. It was logical to do so. Pairing up the fast moving Linna
with the heavier armored Priss where they could have brought more
firepower to bare when needed. If the infiltration team was supposed to run
instead of fight, they wouldn't of needed to split the firepower between the
two teams: Priss with Sylia, Linna with Nene. He looked long and hard at the
chessboard.
He must have miss something in her movements something that would've enabled
him to predict her actions. "What were you thinking Sylia...." You've always
accompanied Nene; You didn't trust the others to do so.
His intercom beeped suddenly.
"Chairman, sir. Security has found a strange reading in the area-"
"Do not disturb me for any reason." He growled.
"Yes, sir." The comm. tech replied nervously.
It was over. Their was nothing left for him now. He rose from his chair and
walked over to the chessboard. A flash of anger coursed through his very
being as he swept the pieces off the board. As the pieces fell to the floor,
a shadow seemed to detach itself from the wall charging at him.
"Close Chairman fil," A grotesque gurgle erupted from his lips before he
could utter the rest of the command as the armored fist struck him like a
piston in the throat crushing his voice box. He was thrown to the floor
amidst the chess pieces. An armored foot crushed his right knee.
A hardsuit of the purest black stepped into the low light that came in
through the massive window behind his desk. It was bristling with tiny
antennas and covered in radar absorbing material. Even its movements were
completely silent. The figure unclasped its helmet and dropped it to the
floor.
"Sy..sli..lia," his voice croaked painful through the remains of his voice
box.
"You were a fool Quincy. You trusted those reports; you never came to see
the body with your own eyes. And finally, you trusted that chessboard."
Sylia replied looking down at the body. For the first time in his life Quincy
felt fear. "Did you believe I would actually give you my plans, like you did,
through the moves of that game? You enjoy games, so I gave you one." She
said coldly.
"Pa..awns." Sylia smiled knowingly and shook her head.
"Even pawns can become bishops and queens," She whispered.
"No..t...ike...this...." Sylia knelt beside the man and reached into his
jacket withdrawing a derringer. She fired killing him in one shot. Stepping
over the bloody mess, she began downloading Genom's memory core.
END (for now.....sequal being worked on)
Author's Notes:
1)Sylia's EBON hardsuit at the end has no internal weaponry on its own being
entirely dedicated to being undetectable (besides its strength enhancements
but killing someone with those is a little messy.....)
2)If you wondering about what Sylia does with all of Genom's files, then you
mustn't have thought about it much. Okay, with all those files she can
manipulate and persuade almost any government, Genom employee, and so on...
thus having the power to purge all criminal aspects of Genom and keep all the
good stuff.
