If you haven't read "Cat's Prey" by Gary Kleppe, this little bit of SPAM
will not make any sense to you. ^_^  I had a different, not-dark notion of
where the story could go after the first mysterious encounter with
"Nabiki":

        "Okay, I agree," Akane said in a faint voice. "If you can do
what you said, I'll marry Ran--" She turned toward where Nabiki had
been, but no one was there.

        She walked off to find somewhere to eat, wondering just what in
the world she had just gotten herself into.

        In a nearby alley, a slender girl tossed the Nabiki clothes, sleek
wig and mirrored sunglasses into the trash, then leaped away with a broad,
self-satisfied grin.

        "Akane," Ranma thought to herself, "This way I'll MAKE you say it
first."  She bounded off in search of hot water, practicing her happy purr.
