Well, I think it's obvious by now that there's little or nothing you can
do to stop your fic from being MST'd. It'd be a waste of time for me to
go over what everyone else has said, but maybe I can put a new spin on
what's been posted about this subject already.

I guess you could call me a "common" fan. (No offense to the rest of you
"common" fans out there). I don't really do much to improve the anime
community; I just watch videos, read fanfics, check out pages, etc. I
don't have my own site in which I can use to help expose people to anime
or post material for friends, or copy videos to pass around, or lend out
CD's, etc. So basically, I feel the only thing I CAN do (albeit it's
something intangible) is provide commentary for as many fics as possible.
This may sound lame, but I feel that it's an obligation on my part to do
so. Why? Well, fanfic authors provide entertainment through their
literature for anime fans without any expectations of money, gifts, etc.
They sacrifice their time and use their writing skills to make these
fics. Why? Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's only one simple reason
-- because they enjoy it. And since they're writing for both their
enjoyment or our own, I feel the only way of fairly repaying them (other
than through monetary means) is to tell these authors what I think about
their fic. It's a bit disheartening when I don't get a response to my
email, but when I do, the message is always positive and appreciative.
(*bonk* No, I'm not talking about anyone in particular).

Getting back to the MSTing subject.... Nightman, in a way, the author of
the MSTing is repaying you for writing your fic. It sounds stupid, but
hear me out. It's always been my belief that the very best fics are the
ones that evoke an emotional response (be it positive or negative). I
use this fic as an example in almost half of my letters, but Zen's "The
Bitter End" is a work of art that I'll always remember. That's not to
say that I enjoyed it (who can honestly say they LIKED the subject matter
of that fic?); in fact, the response I wrote to Zen was almost a flame
because I was so disturbed by what I had read. But eventually, I
realized that it was an exceptionally well written and an extremely
profound piece that deals with a VERY touchy subject matter. If the MST
author felt strongly enough about your work to write a MSTing, I think
you should feel... satisfied that your work had an impact on one more
person. True, you felt it was a flame, but you should be open to the
possibility that it wasn't, and that the author was just trying to draw
attention to a work he found enjoyable. (Unless he/she has said
otherwise, of course). Regardless, it was in very bad taste for the
author to continue with his work even though you asked him not to, but
what can you do? This may seem like a simple answer, but just ignore
it. Nothing you do or say can change the fact that this MSTing has been
written, or that this will inevitably happen to another author in the
future. You should feel secure knowing that you've written a piece that
YOU feel has provided some entertainment to at least a few fans out there
(myself included).

Hope I didn't bore too many people. Ja.
