Actually, I remember this topic coming up before on the FFML.  Someone listed
some useful URLs with Japanese Cultural info.

You might want to try the following URL:

     http://www.io.com/~nishio/japan/index.html

It has all sorts of useful Japanese cultural info as well as a section on
understanding and making up Japanese names.  I can't swear to its accuracy but
I've found it clear and understandable.  ^_^
