Well, having read much, thought much, and asked a bit, I have to
enter my own first
attempt. Flame if ye will, but my Delete Key is Mighty, sort of thing.
C&C beyond welcome-
like I said, this is my first shot. ::grins::
This is set in the continuity of the Ranma Manga after the 38th
volume. As I haven't seen
the end of Rurou-nin Kenshin, I cannot completely say that all events
depicted herein will be
accurate to that series... Ranma's dreams, in this part anyway, are set
during the Meiji
revolution- before Kenshin stopped killing.
I own none of the characters herein; this is an act of fandom and
not a challenge to
anyone's copyright, trademark, or otherwise. I take from two major
series, and muddle them up
as I go along- I do not mean to overstep anyone's rights or anything.
Please do not sue me- I'm
not worth it, trust me, no money

The Warrior Supreme
A Ranma 1/2/Rurou-nin Kenshin Crossover
Part 1 of ?
At the Point Where All Things Are Here And Now, a hooded being
parts an
unimaginable nothingness, and he looks out upon a certain possibility,
and begins to speak.
"At the dawn of Chinese civilization, he was first born..."
"In his life he became a master of <fighting technique>..."
"And developed what some would later call enlightened immortality
through internal alchemy..."
"But he loved a mortal..."
"And throughout the ages..."
"When that mortal dies..."
"He suicides as well, knowing that his immortality will reincarnate her
to his side..."
"His memories returned to him on each of his eighteenth
birthdays...except once... when a severe
trauma within the spirit world caused him to forget... this time was
very recent..."
"But in each life he masters a new martial art..."
"He is known to the other time spanners as the Warrior Supreme..."
"For he learns the Arts Of War without cease..."
"He hates to kill... but has mastered some of the deadliest styles in
history..."
"In the 1800's he was born... as the boy who would grow into the
Rurou-nin Kenshin... The
greatest swordsman of the land..."
"And would die during the end of the Meiji period..."
"After his love, Kaoru died..."
"Just under one hundred years later... in 1980... he was reborn in
Japan..."
"As the son of the Anything-Goes Martial Arts Master, Genma Saotome..."
"His love was reborn as Akane Tendou."
"And so our story unfolds."
It is night-time in Nerima. For the most part, it is an unusual
night-there are no ninjas
stalking across the rooftops, no weird gods and their respectively
superhuman martial artists
plotting to kidnap young girls, no demons being summoned- except within
the minds of men.
The house that is the center of so much of the Nerima Madness is
quiet...for now. In one
room, the guestroom, this seems likely to change soon. A young man is
tossing back and forth
on his futon, muttering and mumbling in his sleep. His father is gone
for some unknown reason;
out with his best friend, training, and paying respects to a certain
grave... This young man is
Ranma Saotome, and he is one of the world's greatest martial artists.
In his dreams, this does not change much. He is still moving with
blinding speed- so fast,
all you see is a blur- and oddly enough, a metallic shine, a line of
shimmering light. He is
moving from foe to foe, each falling in turn. This, to Ranma, is how
it should be.What is
disturbing his sleep, however, is how they are falling. Instead of
falling to the ground
unconscious, they fall dead. Sometimes sliced in half, sometimes with
great gashes over vital
spots, sometimes decapitated. All die, in movements so precise, so
fast, so deadly, that it is like
the wind is cutting their throats.
The scene is played over and over again- the background changes,
but it is not important.
What is seen is the death of hundreds, thousands, and Ranma KNOWS that
it is by his hand. He
shifts furtively in his sleep, starting to moan softly.
Awakened by some instinct she knows not of, Akane slips from her
room, clad in her
nightgown, and down the hall to the guestroom. She pauses at the door.
Why is she here? She
doesn't know... the failed wedding... the trials in China... everything
has become so confusing...
She listens at the door. Ranma's moaning is becoming more intense.
She hopes that he will not disturb anyone, and then remembers that
Nabiki is at an all
night study group/party and Kasumi is doing volunteer work at the local
hospital. Only she and
Ranma are in the house. The baka wouldn't disturb anyone else but
her... she sighs, and listens,
her true emotions betraying the insult in her surface thoughts.
Again, there is turmoil in Ranma's mind. He feels the rush of air
past his head as he flies
into battle. He knows the sensation of his opponents, their locations
and attack vectors available
to his racing mind, as are the near-instinctual choices of how, where,
and when to kill each one.
Their blood stains the earth beneath him. He is male, but his hair is
stained blood red. There is a
pair of scars crossed on his cheek, and he is wearing an old style
kimono.
What's worse is that he KNOWS that this is him, that he KNOWS that
he has done this-
and worse, didn't care. Killing was what he was doing, and killing was
what was right to do-
NO! "Not a killer..." mumbles Ranma in his sleep. "Not a killer..."
Outside, Akane cannot quite
yet make out the words, but the worrisome tone in his voice is getting
worse.
Ranma is tossing and turning violently, remembering more and more
kills, more and
more dead bodies- less and less emotion. He feels himself, a cold,
ruthless killer, moving as he
has to, there is a reason. "Noooo.. no reason... don't kill... don't
kill" Ranma's voice is into the
audible range now, and Akane, concerned, pushes open the door.
She is just in time to hear him begin to scream. "NOT A KILLER!
NONONONONONONONONONONO! I DON'T KILL! I DON'T KILL!" She quickly runs
over to him, as he screams it out again "I DON'T KILL! I DON'T KILL!"
Desperate, she shakes
him, "Ranma?" her voice is soft, filled with concern. His eyes snap
open. They are bloodshot,
tinged with panic. Even more surprising, they are tinged with pain, and
tears are forming.
"Akane!" To her great surprise he clutches onto her like a
drowning man to a life
preserver. She hesitates for only a fraction of a second, realizing
that malleting him now would
be a very bad idea, and that he isn't being hentai... "I don't kill... I
don't kill..." His voice is
shakey, and his whole body is trembling. Hesitantly, Akane begins to
smoothe out his hair, still
supporting him.
"Shhh.... it's okay, Ranma. You're not a killer. You've not a
killer." Her voice is gentle,
and soothing, but it fails to reassure the panicked Ranma. Something
has shaken him to the very
foundations of his soul. "I don't kill.. the sword's not mine, the
sword's not mine... all that
blood... all that BLOOD!" He clutches Akane closer, tighter. She is
surprised at just how strong
he is, even in the grip of fear and panic. She does not clutch back-
rather, she holds him gently,
and hesitantly, lays his head onto her breast.
To her greater surprise, he begins to sob into her, crying out
nearly indecipherable
phrases. "Don't... blood... not mine!... blades... red, red...
kill..." Akane holds him to her. Truth
be told, she is a little frightened herself. This is Ranma! Ranma
NEVER cries! Ranma is never
this frightened! What did he see in his dreams? What horrifying
nightmare could push him so
far?
Ranma continues to cry into the night. All the while, Akane holds
him to her,
whispering soothing things to him as he shudders uncontrollably.
Eventually, his tear ducts run
out, and wordlessly he shivers into her. They do not sleep for some
time.
In the morning, Akane, stiff from being in a sitting position the
whole night, is gently
woken up by Kasumi. Akane looks into her big sister's concerned eyes,
still holding Ranma
close. Kasumi gently asks, "What happened, Akane? Is Ranma alright?"
Akane shakes her
head and replies, quietly, "No, oneechan. He had a horrible nightmare-
I couldn't understand
much- something about him being a killer, and blood, and swords. He
cried all night." Kasumi
put her hand over her mouth inshock. "Oh my. Ranma? Crying? It must
be very bad." Akane
nodded, careful not to wake Ranma. "Yes, oneechan. Ummm... I don't
want anyone else to
know about this. Dad and Uncle Saotome are going to be away fora while
but Nabiki might sell
this to Ranma's enemies..." Kasumi also nods. "Don't worry. Nabiki
told me when she left last
night that she'd be going straight to school from the study/party. I'll
call the school and tell them
that both you and Ranma are very sick."
Akane's eyes expressed more gratitude than words ever could, and
silently, she reached
out with her free hand. Kasumi took it, smiled, squeezed, let her go,
and left. Akane returned to
holding Ranma, her nightgown stained with his salty tears. In her
heart, she knew the truth now.
She was in love with Ranma, and would be here for him, no matter what.
She might be holding
him now, but she knew that he would, as he had always, protect her from
any external danger.
What she had seen last night frightened her, though. Ranma kept all of
his cares, worries, and
fears so locked up... he never told anyone, never let it out, too afraid
to show weakness. She
hoped that he would let her be his strength, that he would love her as
she did him. She knew that
no matter what the future held, she would be there for Ranma and he for
her. In the most
fearsome of nightmares, the love in her heart found it's catalyst, and
Akane felt that a great
change in her life would soon occur.
Akane would not know until later how both very right and very wrong
she was. For now,
these concerns did not matter, only being there for Ranma. She cradled
his head against her,
leaned her head down on top of his, and went back to sleep.
End Part 1
Well, here it is. The dreaded Author's Notes. I know that crying
like that is majorly
OOC for Ranma, but it's justified. One of the major supporting pillars
of Ranma's life is his
honor. Among his tenets is that he does not kill. It's not honorable.
To him, killing is the
ultimate refuge of an incompetent, and Ranma is not an incompetent.
Further more, he is still
frightened over his actions at Mt. Phoenix-the thought that he has the
capability to end sentient
life scares Ranma greatly. To believe that he would do it as a matter
of course... ::shudder::
Well, I hope to get more of this done when I can. There are a few
ideas in my head about
what to do from this point, most of them are just nebulous. I have to
point out, however, that
Sanosuke's zanbatou looks a whole lot like Ukyou's big ass spatula...
and he seems to have the
impenetrable Ryougan skull, as well as Ryouga-ish strength. Kaoru, of
course, really reminds
me of Akane... she even has 2 sisters, very much younger ones, but
still... And for some reason,
Yahiko's jacket keeps reminding me of Ryouga's bandana...
Hmm...
Well, Ja Ne!
