"You sure this is the right way?"
"Akane, I've checked the map seven times... you've checked it
twenty! This has to be the right road!"
"No need to yell at Akane, Ranma! Let me take a look at the map."
Everyone in the van quieted at Ryouga's request. Ukyou sighed,
"Sit back, Ryouga... let them fight it out if they want to."
"Anyway, we want to make it to the cabin, not Niagra Falls..."
Nabiki muttered behind Ryouga.
"I know we'll make it... everything always turns out okay, doesn't
it?" Kasumi smiled her biggest to reassure her little sister, who just
put her face in her hand and looked out the window at the passing
forest.
"See? I told you!" Ranma yelled suddenly, making everyone in the
van jump. He was pointing excitedly out the window at a sign. "It says
Route 107, right where we're supposed to be." He glanced down at the
map. "Should be a few more miles... right after the bridge."
A few minutes later the van crossed a steel supported bridge, as
predicted. Ranma almost glowed with pride and he briefly contemplated
pushing Akane to admit he was right. However, he reconsidered as he was
sure it would be difficult to drive with a mallet in the way.
"Seems you were right, Ranma."
Ranma blinked, veering to the left of the road slightly. "Watch
it!" Ukyou warned from his rear. He started and gripped the steering
wheel harder, adjusting their course back to normal. He looked over at
Akane, who was looking out of the passenger window. Ranma shook his
head and gazed back out to the road ahead.
After another five minutes they arrived at their destination. A
small summer cabin located deep in the backwoods. An American friend of
Nabiki's had given them permission to use it for the month, and they all
figured a trip would be nice. Unfortunately, Soun and Genma could not
attend, them being busy with local Nerima considerations. Such as
Soun's job in Security, and Genma's laziness.
"I wonder if father is okay?" Kasumi asked out of the blue.
Nabiki stared at her sister. "What do you suppose could happen to
him?"
She shrugged, "You know father... I'd feel better if I could take
care of him. Maybe we should have brought them along."
"You know he is busy... anyway, bad things can happen in the woods
at night... he may get lost or something." Nabiki lifted an eyebrow,
"You wouldn't want to have to worry about that, now would you?"
"We'll have enough trouble with pork butt!" came from the driver's
seat. Shortly followed by a yelp and the squealing of tires as the van
was once again straightened.
"Stop it, you two!" Akane yelled, "I'd like to make it in one
piece! Imagine, being killed three meters from the cabin."
Ranma pulled up beside the only building within fifty miles and
pulled back on the emergency brake. The engine was stopped and everyone
began to pile out of the vehicle. The whole group stretched, slightly
cramped from the long trip.
"First thing's first... bath!" proclaimed Nabiki as she deftly
snatched her knapsack and headed into the cabin.
"I'm with her," Ukyou followed and made after Nabiki with her own
luggage.
The rest of the people collected their various belongings and
headed into the house. Ranma shut the doors of the van behind everyone,
as well as the door to the cabin itself. He set his bag down next to
the pile by the door and looked around the place. "Pretty nice." he
said with appreciation.
"Only the best." could be heard from another room.
"Hey, look at this!"
Ranma walked into the study, where Akane was standing over a desk.
Upon the oak construct were various scattered items. The two that stuck
out were a tape recorder and the ugliest book he had ever seen. "What
is all that?" he asked.
Akane shrugged, then pushed play on the recorder. "Maybe Nabiki's
friend left it, he works in a museum or something."
The tape began to roll, and a steady hiss came from the speaker.
Ryouga and Kasumi came into the room, curious as to what was going on.
A voice came from the machine, "I have studied the Necronomicon for a
month now... and if you are listening to this I have use of your
assistance. Yes, I'm talking to you, friends of Tendo Nabiki." The
group in the room looked about at one another briefly, then the person
continued, "The book sitting next to this player is the Necronomicon
Exmortis, which is latin for Book of the Dead. It is supposed to be
able to open a pathway between worlds... dimensions, if you will. After
careful study I have concluded that its main purpose is to summon Evil
itself... pure and ultimate Evil."
Ranma, who had picked up the book, flipped through its pages. "So,
this is supposed to bring Happosai?"
The voice went on, "The pages are written in blood and the text
bound with human flesh." Ranma put the book back on the table trying
not to look hasty. "If the incantations in it are spoken, Evil can be
brought or destroyed. I have brought you here, the best fighters in the
world, to find out the secrets of this book. Once the Evil is released
you will have a fight on your hands, but keep your wits about you. Have
Nabiki read the highlighted lines of text to banish the creature for
good if you cannot handle it yourselves. Thank you for your help, and
good luck..." After that, he spoke a stream of latin that went over
everyone's head.
"What do you suppose that was all about?" Akane asked, looking at
Ranma.
He looked around the room, "I have no idea. Sounds funny to me... I
wonder if Nabiki's friend was all there upstairs?"
Just then, a scream resounded from upstairs. Ranma dashed up to
see what was the matter, Ryouga and Akane right behind. He dashed into
the bathroom, and smacked into a shocked and naked Ukyou. She turned
and wrapped her arms around him, burying her face in his chest. She
whimpered softly as Ranma held her back, but his attention was not on
the chef.
Everyone was looking into the bathtub, where the body of an
American man was floating in his own blood.
END PART ONE
Heh... just watched this movie again and I can't help but do this.
Don't worry, Ranma will get more Ash-like (praise the King!) as the
story progresses. It'll obviously be different than the movie, but for
sure not everyone is going to survive this trip...
Thanks for reading,
