You see the black expanse of space, the vast multitude of stars and
nebulae greets your sight. The translucent image of an attractive woman
with short black hair and regal clothes becomes visible, though
transparent and looking like a ghost against an endless tapestry.
Princess Akane Tendo stares out at you, with a slight smile on her
face, and begins to speak in a clear, confident voice.
"The beginning, is a very delicate time. Know then that it is the
year 10,191 and 1/2. The known universe is ruled by the Tendo- Shah
Emperor Soun IV, my father. In this time the most precious substance in
the universe is the Nekohaten Ramen. The Ramen extends life. The Ramen
expands consciousness. The Ramen is vital to space travel. The Spacing
Guild and its Navigators, who the Ramen has mutated over 4,000 years,
use the processed Ramen noodles which gives them the ability to fold
space, that is, travel to any part of the universe without moving.
Oh yes, I forgot to tell you, the Ramen exists on only one planet
in the entire universe. A desolate, dry planet with vast deserts.
Hidden away within the rocks of these deserts are a people known as the
Amazons who have long held a prophecy, that a man would come, a husband,
who would lead them to true freedom. The planet is Arrakis, also known
as Dune.

...and from the introduction to The Grace of Great Things:
"Creativity is dangerous. We cannot open ourselves to
new insight without endangering the security of our
prior assumptions. We cannot propose new ideas without
risking disapproval and rejection. Creative
achievement is the boldest initiative of mind, an
adventure that takes its hero simultaneously to the rim
of knowledge and the limits of propriety. Its pleasure
is not the comfort of the safe harbor, but the thrill
of the reaching sail."
