Dragon And A Half - Part 1
A crossover fic by W. Siew Lee
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"We are going to China!" announced Bulma happily as she burst into the
living hall where her husband, Vegita, her son, Trunks and her daughter Bra
was watching 'Titanic' on video.
"Stop interrupting me!" grumbled Vegita. "This film is very interesting.
Rose is leaving Jack now!"
"Hey, Vegita! Since when you learn how to watch such a romantic movie? I
thought you only knew how to fight?" retorted Bulma.
"Com'on woman, there's no kingdom or Vegitasei for me to rule now and I
might as well watch tv." answered Vegita rudely.
"Otousan! Stop argueing with kassan! Titanic's sinking now!" shouted Trunks,
who was totally engrossed with the film.
Vegita heard his son and adverted his attention back to the screen. Bulma
shook her head and retreated to the kitchen. Vegita was getting accustomed
to Earth's traditions and way of living now.
Bulma took out the chopper and began chopping a chicken into pieces.
*Feeding a Saiyajin and two half breed Saiyajin children wasn't easy.*
Bulma had regretted buying that vcd player. Ever since she bought that
useless piece of junk, Trunks and Bra had took turns buying pirated vcds
from the roadside stall. Even Vegita had tv addiction now. As far as she
could recall, they had watched it about 10 times, yet they aren't tired of
it still.
Bulma sighed as and she stirred the soup in the pot with the ladle. China
was exactly where she would want to go this year. Maybe China shall be the
land of dreams there. Beautiful scenery and fresh air. Vegita and her never
went on a vacation. How old is Trunks? 17 years she had been living with
Vegita and not a moment of romantic honeymoon. Although Vegita could be
romantic at times, but he never did it outside Capsule Corp. building. China
will be the place for a family holiday, Bulma decided.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Wow, 'Titanic' is always that nice to watch. An instant classic." sighed
Trunks dreamily as Bulma laid out huge amounts of food on the table.
"There's one thing I never quite understood. Why did Jack asked Rose to go
on while he died first?" asked Vegita as he began shoving food into his
mouth.
"I know!" shouted Bra in her babyish voice.
"Yeah what?" retorted Trunks as he looked at his little sister.
"Jack is weak!" yelled Bra happily.
"Hey! Why you called Jack weak!" exclaimed Trunks.
"He *is* weak. Imagine in Vegitasei where even the female there needs to
fight also." interrupted Vegita. Just then, Bulma walked down to the table.
"Okassan, just now did you say China?" asked Trunks, deliberately changing
the subject.
"China? Oh yes. We need to go there because Capsule Corp. had finally
obtained permission to set up a main office there. We might as well go there
for a holiday. All of us." explained Bulma.
"Huh?" exclaimed everybody besides Bulma.
"Why? Okassan, why everybody right now?" asked Trunks, almost reluctant to
leave his precious vcd player at home.
"Trunks, we are going to China." interrupted Vegita.
"Otousan..." said Trunks in a confused way. His father never liked traveling
with his family.
"Well, I had heard that in China there's many types of ancient martial arts.
I would like to try them for myself." answered Vegita.
"See, your otousan is still the smartest around." said Bulma while Trunks
let out a groan.
Trunks rolled his eyes and began eating his food viciously. Until now, he
still couldn't control that huge appetite of his. "Anyway, Goku's family is
also coming with us." announced Bulma.
"What?" exclaimed Vegita with his mouth full.
"Do you want me to go with that fool with brain damage?" continued Vegita,
his eyes glaring.
"Well, I had already invited Chi-Chi and she said Goku, Goten, Pan and
herself are going with us on this trip." explained Bulma reasonably.
"If he's going, I'm not going." announced Vegita with his Saiyajin ego
bursting. He still couldn't forget the humilation that he suffered silently
when he actually lost to a low class warrior.
"Com'on, otousan. That might be fun." persuaded Bra. Trunks and Bulma took
turns to glare at her. 'Fun' isn't exactly in Vegita's dictionary.
Bra took on tear-filled eyes and looked at Vegita. Vegita felt his heart
softened at that gaze.
"All right, whatever." Vegita heard himself agreeing.
Bra and Bulma whooped in joy as father and son exchanged glances. Vegita
shoved food aimlessly into his mouth.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trunks groaned unhappily as he stared at the Chinese book set in front of
him. "I shouldn't take Chinese as my foreign language. It's so different
from Japanese; from pronounciation or writing sentences." grumbled Trunks.
Again, he tried to speak *zhao an* (good morning) properly in Chinese but
failed miserably. "I can't believe I'm going to China tomorrow with my
family with this pathetic oral Chinese." said Trunks as he got up to get a
drink from the kitchen. Just then. the doorbell rang. Trunks ran to get the
door.
"Eh, Goten, it's you." greeted Trunks as he let his best friend into the
comfort of his home.
"Great, are you learning how to speak Chinese now?" asked Goten as he looked
at the opened Chinese textbook on the living room table.
"Yeah, didn't want to get lost in China." answered Trunks, reappearing with
a glass of water from the kitchen.
"What about this...." Goten suddenly spoke in Chinese a bunch of things that
Trunks didn't quite understood. He could only make out the words 'wo',
'hao', and a few limited words.
"Goten! When did you learn such well Chinese?" exclaimed Trunks when Goten
finished showing off.
"Okassan had lessons in Chinese before and she taught me how to speak, write
and listen to Chinese since I was young." said Goten as he scratched his
black unruly hair.
"If in this case, I have no qualms now because I won't actually have to
worry with such a good interpretor here." said Trunks as he slapped a hand
on Goten's back.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Passengers of Flight 106, please head towards platform 3.* a voice
announced over the loud speaker in the busy airport. A group of people stood
there, chatting away.
"Bulma, is this our flight?" asked Chi-Chi as she tugged along her luggage.
"I think so. Let's go." said Bulma.
Vegita and Goku was squirming there, obviously uncomfortable with the suits
they were wearing. Vegita kept fiddling with his neck tie while Goku was
there shifting from leg to leg very restlessly.
"What is your problem, Goku?" asked Chi-Chi angrily as she dragged Goku by
the sleeve of his shirt as Goku kept squirming in his outfit. "If you don't
walk by yourself, I would have to drag you." A bead of sweat ran down Bulma,
Trunks and Goten's forehead. Chi-Chi is really the strongest in the
universe.
At last, the two families managed to get on the plane. Bulma had specially
arranged she and Chi-chi sat together with Bra while her husbands will seat
together. Trunks and Goten will, of course be seated next to each other.
They are the best of friends.
The flight to China was quite short, maybe about two hours or so.
A heavily accented Chinese voice spoke in Japanese, announcing that the
plane will reach the China airport in about 10 minutes and reminding them to
fasten their seat belts.
Bulma stole a look at Vegita, hoping to see his priceless reactions towards
commands that he thought they were useless. Sure enough, Vegita rolled his
eyes and clipped on the seat belt. Meanwhile Goku was studying the black
seat belt, scratching his unruly mass of black hair as he began thinking.
The plane soon touched down and the two families stood outside the airport,
while Bulma was paging for a taxi.
"Shi ji, zhai wo men dao zhou chuan. (Taxi, please ferry us the cursed
springs.)" Bulma spoke in Chinese to the taxi driver.
"Hao." answered the man as all of them squeezed into the taxi.
The two family got off the taxi to a beautiful place with lush green
scenery. Pools and pools of hot onsens filled the air with it's steam.
"This is where Capsule Corp. is going to build the new division branch?"
asked Trunks as he gazed at the enchanting view.
"Yup, that's right! The price of the land here is real cheap." answered
Bulma. "Nice view..."
Vegita just cleared his throat. He wanted to get training fast, with Goku
this time. He had managed to learn a few new fighting skills during the past
month.
Trunks and Goten looked excitedly around. Searching for a place to practise
their Super-Saiyajin stance. At last, they saw stilts raising out of the
hot springs.
Goten looked at Trunks and gace each other a high five. The stilts will work
just fine for their balancing fighting, although they don't need it because
they could fly in the air.
Bulma and Chi-chi checked in a hotel for three rooms, one for herself and
Vegita, one for Chi-Chi and Goku and another for the boys. Trunks and Goten
ahd already long gone for their trekking in the jungles nearby. According to
Trunks, they might find something interesting there like a demon or
something like that.
Her daughter was sitting on the floor, playing with her stuffed animals that
she insisted on bringing along. Bulma yawned sleepily, tomorrow's going to
be a hard day.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trunks and Goten sat by the fire they made with their ki in the forest.
Goten yawned.
"Are you tired?" asked Trunks, poking the fire with a stick.
"Yeah, I prefer flying than sitting in that damned plane." said Goten.
"Goten, I have something to ask you." said Trunks, an interesting question
popping up in his head.
"Yeah?" said Goten, already half drowsing on the leaf covered ground.
"Do you think love is real important in life?" asked Trunks.
"Wow, the super-flirter-in-school asking me, Son Goten, this type of
questions." taunted Goten, his ears perking up at the sign of an interesting
discussion.
"Don't joke around. Just answer me." said Trunks, his cheeks blushing a
little.
"Okay, my answer is yes. Why do you want to know that?" said Goten.
"Well, just curious about your opinion." said Trunks. "Com'on, it's getting
late. We still have about 12 hours before reaching that mountain top."
"Hm..."

A word from the author:
Whew! What a break from my mega YYH fanfic project, 'The Past, The Present
And The Future', which is quite dark and sad. I had received comments on my
fic for being to much of tears and a bleak sky. At last, I decided that I
should take some time off and write a spam fic. That day when my brother
was walking down Chow Kit Road in K.L, he saw Ranma the manga been sold
there and he brought quite a number. In fact, I kinda like it. What about a
Dragonball and a Ranma crossover? I picked up my pen and started writing...
***wo ai ni --- means 'I love you' in Chinese
***zhao an --- means 'good morning' in Chinese
