I have heard so much about "The Masks We Wear", and "Cut Wood,
Carry Water" on FFML that I would really like to read it but I can't
find it anywhere. If anyone out there has copies or knows where
they can be found, I would appeciate it greatly if they could write
me back.
Requests like this is exactly the reason that I've created a
fanfic-author database at <http://illusion.snu.ac.kr/~wacko/ffml/>.
It was created so that people who hear about recent fanfics secondhand
can find the author's email address and request the fanfic from the
author directly, instead of posting a request to the list.
It's been running since last summer, and almost all of the fanfics
posted in the past two months should have entries in the database
(I've been manually entering fanfics that don't have proper subject
tags for that long, only about three quarters of the fanfics seemed to
be getting entered before then).
In this particular case, searching for "Cut Wood, Carry Water" shows
that Bob Barnes <rbarnes@moscow.com> wrote that fanfic, while
searching for "Mask" shows that the title of that fanfic is "The Masks
We Must Wear" written by the same author (unless there's another
fanfic with the same title except for the "Must").
In any case, even if it's not in this database, you should still try
using other means to find the fanfics, such as searching through the
RAAC archive, browsing through the synopses lists, or mailing
individual members of the FFML, and should post a request to the FFML
only as a *last* resort. (Of course, this is just an opinion of mine
which I have no right to impose on others, but ignore it and you may
have to face the wrath of our gracious but strict moderator Tybalt
(read the FAQ if you don't know why).)
