Although I've seen both UY and Ranma, I never realized how similar Lum

and

Akane really are.  Scary thought.  Especially since I like Lum and hate
Akane!  Hmmm... time to re-evaluate some of my characterizations.  ^_-

Well they are both Takahashi stories, so some similarities are to be
expected.

As for Lum being like Akane... hmmm... I actually think she tends more
towards
Shampoo in personality, a Shampoo that has a much better grip on her
target.

Shinobu is the most Akane-like of the UY crew (IMHO), short tempered but
wanting
to be a normal girl.

and since I'm doing this, consider some other UY-Ranma personality
comparisons:

Ataru - Happosai-like, however the drive of his lusts have not yet totally
extinguished
all honor and compassion.

Mendo - Arrogant like Tatewaki Kuno, but with a better grasp of reality
and, overall, 
less personal ability and honor with almost as much lust as Ataru (Mendo is
as big
a womaniser as Ataru, just better at it).

Megane - Obsessed like Mousse, but more aware of what the object of his
obsession
actually feels and shows the occasional ability to put Lums happiness (as
opposed to 
safety) in front of his own desires.

Ryunuske - a girl raised as a boy (often thought to be the inspiration for
the Ranma 1/2
manga) with a level of naivetivity and aggression to match Hibiki Ryouga's,
however, is a
tad more rational and willing to listen, except to Ataru. ;-)

Sakura - calm, confident and learned.  A formidable shinto priestess.  In
terms of
presence and general demeanour is probably closest to Cologne.

Cherry - one of a kind.  In annoyance value is comparable to Happosai, but
has a
utterly different personality with no real match in Ranma 1/2.

Benten - Brash, self-confident, loyal to her friends and inclined to
violence, a lot like 
Ranma, only with more up-front "attitude" and without the emotional
weaknesses
that so often leave Ranma tongue-tied and helpless.

Oyuki - Ice-Queen of Neptune and a careful manager.  Most similar to Tendo
Nabiki, particularly in self-control and getting what she wants, is less
overt about
financial matters, but then, Oyuki has a planet to draw on.

Ran - A mix of homicidal anger and conniving cuteness not duplicated in
Ranma, 
a cross between Shiratori Azusa and Kuno Kodachi is the closest match I can
think
of.

Ah well... enough spam for now.
