All non-original characters belong to their respective owners, original
characters are based on ideas owned by someone else. I have no money so
suing me would be an exercise in futility. This is my second non-Ranma
fanfic so any C&C is appreciated (actually it's appreciated for the
Ranma fics too...)
Continuity
Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon: Takes place after the Pharaoh 90 storyline
of the _manga_ (Hotaru's father is dead and the Outer Senshi are raising
her.) and basically ignores everything afterward.
Vampire Princess Miyu: Takes place after the OAV's, for the moment I'm
ignoring the TV series and the Manga
Sanzen Eyes: Takes place _before_ and _during_ the Anime (I'm also
tweaking with the magic a bit so that a Sanjiyan can have more than one
Wu at anyone time)
Dark Senshi
Prologue
Version 1.0
The room was silent and dark, save for a single shaft of pale moonlight
that shone through the window. The sole occupant of the room, a child
no more than ten years old stirred slightly, but failed to awaken. The
moonlight grew in intensity and glittering motes of light formed near
the child's crib. Moments passed as the light coalesced into the form
of a woman. Long blond hair, bound into two pony tails, nearly reached
the floor, a beautiful white gown clothed her body, and a golden circlet
graced her brow, marking her as royalty. Her face bore an expression of
unbearable sadness and a single, crystal, tear slid down her unblemished
face.
***
Himiko smiled as she opened the balcony window of her fifth floor hotel
room and stepped outside, clad only in an ocean blue silk night gown.
The spiritualist took a sip of white wine as a light breeze tossed her
short black hair. She had always enjoyed the cool night wind and
tonight was no exception. Himiko's smile faded as she recalled the
day's events. She had faced another Shinma today and banished it to the
Dark without Miyu's assistance
<Flashback
The winged serpent rose sinuously from the child's body, emerald scales
glistening in the candle light, as it stared balefully at the
spiritualist that had forced it from its host. With no more than a hiss
of warning it struck out at Himiko, fangs bared, in an attempt to
destroy the human that annoyed it so. Screaming Himiko dove to the
side, the Shinma's fangs missing her by mere centimeters. Turning to
face the serpent, the spiritualist pulled an ofuda from her sleeve. For
just a moment she paused as she noticed a pair of golden eyes observing
her actions from behind the serpent.
Hissing with displeasure the Shinma lashed out with its tail knocking
the ofuda from Himiko's hands. Eyes wide with fear she stumbled
backwards, her last line of defense gone. With a cry of triumph the
Shinma gathered itself and dove once again at her. Screaming, Himiko
put up her arms in a futile attempt to ward the creature off
A full thirty seconds later Himiko opened her eyes to see the Shinma
snarling in anger and pain on the other side of the room. Only then did
she realize that her hands were glowing with a bright blue flame. For a
moment she sat there in shock simply staring at her hands. Standing
Himiko drew upon the flames that wreathed her hands and pushed it
towards the serpent. Not knowing how, the spiritualist bound the Shinma
with her fire and banished it back to the Dark
end Flashback>
Turning away from the balcony, Himiko stepped back into her hotel room
to pour herself another glass of wine.
"You did well today Himiko-chan," said a soft voice from behind her.
***
In wilderness of northern China two girls dashed though the trees at a
breakneck speed. The first seemed to be about 16 years old, her worn
traveling clothes and short black hair flying lose behind her. In her
hands she held a long staff topped with an intricate carving of a bird's
head. The other looked about 12 years old, and her clothes looked even
more tattered than the first girl's, showing signs of a recent fight.
"Chotto matte," the second girl panted, stopping to lean against one of
the trees, "I think we lost him Pai-sama."
"Do not underestimate Benares child," the Sanjiyan admonished, her
third eye opening, "he is far more powerful than you give him credit
for."
"Your mistress is quite correct child," taunted a voice from behind
them.
***
In a large apartment situated in the Juuban district of Tokyo a
woman in her early twenties started awake. Running a hand through her
dark green-black hair she reached out with her mind, seeking the
disturbance that had awoken her. She could feel an intruding presence
somewhere in the apartmenta familiar presence Wrapping herself in a
soft blue robe Mei'ou Setsuna began searching for the source of the
disturbance.
***
"Miyu," Himiko snarled, spinning around to face the balcony once
again. There stood a girl, maybe twelve or thirteen years old, wrapped
in a snow white kimono, her dark brown hair tied into a long braid that
hung over one shoulder, held in place by a red ribbon. The girl's
piercing golden eyes glittered with both amusement and sadness as they
watched Himiko struggle to call upon the power that had served her in
the battle with the winged serpent.
"It won't work you know," Miyu said, breaking the silence, "you
don't know what you're doing and even if you did you don't have the
power to hurt me, not yet."
"Damn you Miyu," Himiko snarled, "what do you want?" The child
sighed as she stepped into the hotel room.
"Do you know why your powers were released today?" she asked.
"What?" Himiko responded, confused at the question. Once again
Miyu sighed as she looked at the spiritualist.
"There are other Shinma, like me," she began, "who guard this world
against intrusion from the Dark. Many of them are never called upon to
fulfill their duty, I am the head of Kyuuketsuki clan, which is why I
was chosen as the Guardian. You, Himiko, are a member of my clan."
"I'm not a monster like you," Himiko snapped.
"Don't make this harder than it already is Himiko," Miyu sighed, "of
all the members of my clan I had hoped you would understand. You've
seen the Shinma and the chaos they will wreak if they are let loose upon
this world."
"What does this have to do with me?"
"There was another clan of Shinma," Miyu said, staring out into the
night, "whose duty was to protect the seals that prevented the most
dangerous clans from reentering this world. The head of their clan
abandoned his duty today and broke the first of the seals. I imagine
the others are not far behind. The Shinma that will be released are too
powerful for me to stop alone. I need help Himiko, and you don't want
to see this world become a playground for the Shinma. Will you allow me
to teach you to harness your power and fight the Shinma?"
***
In a realm sealed off from both the Material Plane and the Dark
beings whose like had not been seen for a millennium began to stir. The
first of the bonds that held them had been broken and now they clamored
for release. In the midst of the chaos one of the beings smiled.
"Soon, Hellen soon"
***
"Benares!" the younger girl snarled, "KUAN-YAA!" At her cry a
dragon shaped beam of light flew from her extended hand to strike at the
older sorcerer.
"Chin-kuu," Benares chanted contemptuously, reflecting the bolt of
light back towards the girl. Diving out of the way the girl began
preparing another attack. "When will you learn," he smirked, "I know
all of your little tricks."
"What do you want Benares?" the Sanjiyan snapped.
"I've come to deliver a message," the Wu sneered, "Kaiyanwang wants
you to know that the First Seal has been broken, and the others are soon
to follow." Laughing Benares turned and disappeared into the night.
"Shiva you FOOL," Parvati snarled.
"What's going on Sanjiyan?" the younger girl asked.
"We're splitting up," the Sanjiyan growled, "you're going to Japan
while I search for the Ningen no Zou."
"But Sanjiyan!" the girl protested.
"But _NOTHING_ Makoto," Parvati snapped, "_you_ must find the
Guardian and the Silent Messiah. Kaiyanwang needs me, _not_ my Wu.
Once the Seals are broken all of his resources will go into searching
for me. Which means you can lead the Guardian and the Silent Messiah to
him and reseal the Gate."
"Yes, Sanjiyan," Mei'ou Makoto sighed.
***
The woman reached out and brushed the child's hair from her
forehead. At her touch a symbol glowed violet on the child's forehead.
"I'm sorry Hellen," she whispered, "I wish" At that moment Setsuna
burst into the room.
"Serenity!" she gasped, "what"
"Hello old friend," Queen Serenity smiled sadly.
"Why have you returned, my Queen?" Setsuna asked, masking her shock
with cold formality.
"I had one last oath to keep before I passed on," Serenity sighed,
"an oath I had hoped would not need to be fulfilled."
"I had thought after Usagi had come into her powers you would be
free," Setsuna said, "what oath could" The Guardian of Time trailed
off as a horrible possibility occurred to her. "No," she whispered,
"not them"
"I'm sorry Persephone," Serenity said, reaching out to comfort her
old friend.
"Is there anything that can be done?" Setsuna asked, trying to
regain her composure.
"No," Serenity sighed, "the first seal has been broken and there is
nothing you or I can do to stop the others from being broken as well."
"Usagi and the other's aren't powerful enough to stop them," Setsuna
said.
"No," Serenity agreed, "they're not, none of the Senshi are, except
one" Serenity trailed off and glanced sadly at the still sleeping
child.
"Are you sure Serenity," Setsuna asked, almost pleading, "that
there's absolutely nothing that I or the others could do?"
"I'm sorry Persephone," the Queen answered, "you knew this day might
come."
"I had hoped" Setsuna's voice trailed off as her sense of duty
asserted itself, "what must be done to prepare her?"
"She must be trained in the use of her powers," the Queen said, "the
remainder of the seals will take a few years to neutralize so you have
some time to prepare her." Serenity began to fade as she turned toward
the window, "do not fear that she will be alone, there are others who
will join her" Serenity's last words hung in the air as she vanished
in the moonlight.
This is the complete prologue to the teaser I posted a couple months
ago. Don't expect anything on this (or any of my other fics) for a
while, I've got finals in a couple weeks and I need to study. C&C is
welcome anytime, however.
Does anyone have a better title for this fic? I contemplated "Magical
Girls from Hell" (since that was the thread it originated from) but it
didn't quite seem right. Any contributions would be appreciated.
Progress Report: (I'm going to pretend there are somepeople who
actually care about the fics I write)
In case any one was wondering, I'm not giving up on any of the fics I've
started and (hopefully) will finish before the year 2000AD--at my STZ
speed (Slower Than Zen) it's more likely that I'll be done by the year
2100AD
Broken Dreams: writer's blocked, really badly writer's blocked. I'm
_REALLY_REALLY_ sorry about this Peggy and Slayer. I just can't get it
moving. I've got the 2nd chapter planned out and the ending almost
written, it's just the little details that aren't coming to mind. I
promise Chapter 4 will be _much_ faster (it's almost completely
written--since it started out as Chapter 1)
Family Demons: I've actually got some inspiration for this so expect
Part 4 to come out some time in April (I've got finals in two weeks and
I'll be lucky to _recieve_ e-mail over spring break let alone send
anything)
Kasumi's Little Secret/Ranma's Little Secret: KLS pt 7 is waiting on
RLS pt 3 (they're parallel storylines so if one is going to affect the
other I need to know what's going to happen) I hope to have mulitple
parts done by the end of spring break so expect something from both in
April.
Sequels to Waiting in the Darkness: coming as soon as I rewatch some of
the series in question (not Ranma) and can think about the subject
without being sick--I'm shooting for an April release date but no
garuntees.
