I don't agree. I know that some of my friends, as well as myself, will
check out fics before the anime, just to get a feel for it.  As long as
the intros aren't overly long, I think they're beneficial for that
aspect alone. In addition, if the author has a strong interpretation of
a particular character, this may be evident in such an intro as well.

Frankly, all these fusion series that have been going around lately have
been kind of irritating. I don't know who a lot of the characters are--I
don't do Tenchi (except 1 viewing of the movie, dubbed) OR Eva (except
the first tape). So while I maybe know 3 characters from each, when the
whole gallery of supporting characters from each show is brought in, I'm
completely lost.  Even a character guide at the end of the first chapter
would be useful.
