I just added a couple more stories to my web page. I created a new
"Kimagure Orange Road" section, and despaired at how crowded the table of
contents was becoming. I'd like to reorganize it a bit.

I'd like to do some fancy things, like clickable image maps or frames or
clickable style sheets. That'd make my web page neater, easier to use,
and better organized.

Actually, clickable image maps are pretty standard now.

The problem, of course, is that only those who can use the latest version
of Netscape or Internet Explorer would be able to view them. No Lynx, no
people using Acorn browsers. These people wouldn't be able to get
anything coherent from my web pages, and I'm not up to maintaining two
separate versions of my pages.

It's pretty easy to include backup stuff like alt values, etc. on the same
page as the fun gimmicks (i.e. having text links below an image map).

So I'm asking: anyone *not* using IE4 or Netscape 4? Would this cause
you too much hardship? Would the use of frames make you hate me forever?

I'm using Opera (check it out at http://www.operasoftware.com ) because IE4
and NS4 were way too bulky and slow. If you stick to standard HTML you
should have no problem. Also, if you're going to use frames you don't need
a separate version of the site. Just include some kind of directory or
index page that links to all the pages that go in the frames, so than
non-framers can reach the same files.

There's a lot of good advice at
http://ppewww.ph.gla.ac.uk/~flavell/cobweb.html .

Let me know; I'm quite interested in some feedback on this.
