...here's a reason to do so.
Seriously, though, it's a writing technique/means of annoying your friends
which comes in rather useful, at times. Force yourself away from the story
for a moment if you've hit an impasse... and try and come up with a nonsense
verse that dates back to the Victorian age. No, not limericks. Much too much
freedom involved there. Try working within the constraints of a Higgledy
Piggledy... a few examples:
Higgledy Piggledy
Tendo Kasumi, she
Cares for the dojo and
Keeps them all sane.
Cooking and cleaning and
Always there listening, yet
Some will surmise that she
Wants for a brain.
****
Higgledy Piggledy
Cloud Strife, whose memory
Fades in and out like a
Boomerang hurled.
Puppet of Sephiroth,
Living another's life,
Yet he succeeded in
Saving the world.
****
Higgledy Piggledy
Feline humaniform,
A purloined prototype
Death will forestall.
For this, they chase her with
Mechas and choppers; though
Not built for combat, she
Trounces them all.

Simple, no? At least it seems that way. Six syllables, and a final line of
four which rhymes. And you never have to worry about writing the very first
line. But try working a smidgen of plot or a capsule of characterization
into one. You'll find it maddeningly impossible... and yet, the mind seems
to work a lot more creatively with rhythm and rhyme than with prose. You may
surprise yourself with the things you come up with to try and "get this
little piece of $$$$ to WORK!" It's gotten my creative juices flowing on
more than one occasion.
And how else to sign off but:
Higgledy Piggledy
Glazius Falconar
Travels to planets and
Finds how they work.
Mysteries revile him.
Techies inspire him.
Most everybody else
Calls him a jerk.
