Had to do it, didn't I? Had to get curious about Megane 6.7's excellent
MiSTings and follow the links and read Richard Lawson and get dragged into
yet another fandom. As if I didn't have enough concerns. Oh well. So, hello
to all you wonderful people out there. I have a feeling I'll be getting to
know you all well enough, soon enough.

THE PREMISE: [Rated SC-17 for intense technical language]

"Mark, get me out of here."

"Affirmative, Glazius."

My hand-held computer, active once more, processed the simple space-time
folds needed to take me outside the crystalline prison most Mobians knew as
"The Void". It had initially overloaded because of the multi-dimensional
nature of the place... a nature which I could fortunately not perceive. But
that failure had left me unprotected... and I had been discovered. Of
course, since the technology required to leave this place was only available
on Avis Prime... there was little chance anyone else would know that I was
here, observing, and trying my best to explain this strange world.

I was outside in an instant. My psychic cloak shimmered into place, and I
launched myself into the air and headed back to the base I'd established.
I'd be going home soon enough... and this planet could do little to me, now
that I knew of the only thing which could be a danger.

I drifted off to sleep, reflecting on what had just happened. I had used a
fifth-dimensional means of transportation... to escape a seventh-dimensional
prison. Oh no. That brought me awake again. I shouldn't have been able to do
that. But I had; Mark's scans confirmed that I was back where I should be...
which could only mean...

I'd punched a hole. An extradimensional hole, but a hole nonetheless. And
the hole would be filled. Filled by the only thing which could fill a
me-sized hole. Me. Quantum copies of me, at least. Exact duplicates,
awareness, all the things I was carrying... an infinity of selfs in an
infinity of parallel universes.

But was that so bad? I certainly wouldn't know what was happening to...
well... me, but not this me, the other billions of "me". And they... I...
gad, this was confusing... let's stick with "they" for now... grammar hardly
covers what had just happened. They would be equipped just as I was; psychic
cloak, computer, time-stream translator... and the synthetic Chaos Emeralds
I had synthesized as an experiment. More than enough to survive. And they
would have Mark to prevent them from wreaking havoc. And there would
probably be as much mystery in their universe as there was in this one, so
they wouldn't get bored too easily. And...

Great, here I was, worrying about myself. An infinity of myselfs, to be
precise. They were probably doing the same thing I was doing... and had
probably come to the same conclusion. They had been created. Or, rather, I
had been created... from their perspective, they were the ones who had
teleported from the Void, and I was the quantum copy. Not as though there
were any way of telling.

I settled into a rather uneasy sleep, and wondered what else I was doing
tonight...

[End Premise. Begin mindless rambling.]

The ultimate self-insertion justification, no? I am a Science Guy...
probably not quite so up on the science as your resident Science Guy, but a
Science Guy nonetheless. And what do Science Guys do? I think you know. But
I am a narrative Science Guy, above all else. And I have a pretty good flair
for storytelling... or so most of the people who've read my stories seem to
think. Can't post any of them here... unless Final Fantasy VII counts even
remotely as anime. Then I can maybe tack on one. Maybe.

But that's beside the point. The point is... God help me, I can't stop
thinking about how I would explain Ranma 1/2's cursed springs and the Sailor
Scout/Magical Girl transformation sequence and how a cat brain could
possibly control a human body and the nature of just about every energy
blast attack in existence...

To say nothing of the complications inherent. You see, self-inserted, I'm a
falcon. A five-foot falcon, castrated (like you needed to know THAT, but art
mirrors life... don't ask...), with a near-universal translator and
elemental powers. And genetically engineered to completely recycle all
bodily waste products (back on the homeworld, I had to live for two weeks on
charcoal briquettes. Sans lighter fluid, of course) and digest narcotics and
toxins as easily as normal food. You can imagine Kuno walking into the
Tatewaki mansion and hearing his Shakespeare finished... by a falcon. Eating
his sister's cooking with no apparent antidotes. Speaking English, no less.
Now, if that doesn't scream "sorcerer", I don't know what does. And the
Sailor Scouts, arriving at the scene of a youma attack to find a five-foot
talking falcon. (Who has turned the youma into its component quarks... we
have this strict policy of letting worlds go without outside
interference...) Come to think of it, I wouldn't fit in ANYwhere... unless
any of you people know some world where people wouldn't look askance at such
a thing.

This is just a warning. The actual stories will follow soon enough. Or not.

By the way... can anyone recommend a few more decent authors? Any genre, I'm
not too picky. But it should be fairly clear that I can't read, understand,
or appreciate lemons.
