I'd say that the curse is, at best, like

an incredibly recessive gene - it happens so rarely to the original
victim's descendants that you might as well not bother.<<

I just recalled something. Remember how the Musk dinasty breeds? If the 
curse can't be inherited, how can the children be human? If the curse can 
be inheritable, 99% of their population would be female.
