Please don't ask me where this came from but, here goes:

	Lt. Ranma Saotome strode briskly into the major's office.  The fit
of his REF uniform was perfect to his body.  Everything was in order, right
down to the Jupiter Division patch on his shoulder.  In short he looked
like he had just stepped off a recruiting poster.
	The major was in an unusually cheery mood.  This could only mean
bad news.  "Sit down, son," he ordered.  Ranma did as he was bid.  "Today
I've called you in for a special recon mission....."
	Ranma sat in growing horror (though hiding it well) as the major
detailed the mission.  The 'thing' he was supposed to go out and gather
information on defied description.  It seemed unstoppable and very, very
nasty.  By the time the major was done, Ranma was convinced he wouldn't
make it back alive.
	"Well son, what do you say?  Will you take on such a hazardous
mission?"  The major's countenance made it clear what would happen if he
refused.
	"Of course sir!  It will be a cakewalk after my fiance's cooking."
Ranma replied in that 'can-do' tone of voice he had been forced to learn in
training.  The major frowned slightly at the mention of his daughter.
However, he was used to his future son-in-law talking about her like that.
	"Good, now remember, this won't be like your run of the mill
intellegence gathering mission against the Invid.  This new threat seems to
be much worse.  Don't try to fight it.  Just come back with the
information.  Dismissed!"
	Ranma saluted and left the major's office.  For some reason a dark
pit had formed in his stomach.

	Now clad in his CVR-3 body armor, Ranma sat in his VF-7R Recon
Alpha Fighter flying toward this latest invader of earth.  On the outside
of his cockpit was his name, rank and callsign "Bronco".  On the radome was
a picture of his fiance' Akane, wearing some revealing clothes and striking
a pose poplarized by Lynn Minmei a generation before.  Many Veritech
fighters had Akane's picture on the radome, but Ranma was the only one
engaged to the singing star.
	As Ranma gained sight of the invader, he again began to wonder if
he would get to see her again.  The 'creature' was as tall as a 15 story
building.  It was massively built, and currently under attack by a horde of
Invid.  That was a blessing as it seemed to pay no attention to him.
	Circling at a safe distance, he heard part of his briefing echo in
his ears--"For right now, we are calling it an 'Angel'"...........

Like I said, don't ask....just a little brain clearing trying to get down
to serious work.  I've seen plenty of Ranma, all of Robotech, but only the
first two eps of NGE.  Therefore, there is no reason for this
story......yet......perhaps I should begin to fear for my sanity........
