as stated previously there are as many ways to write as there are grains
of sand on a beach. Everyone has their own method, here is my method of
madness, and it can work for most people, not just the insane ones.
Part 1: Find a basic idea
Part 2: Put a twist on that idea
Part 3: Decide what type of story you want to write(humor, parody,
lemon, etc)
Part 4: Sketch out a basic story
Part 5: Start writing
Part 6: Hope the readers like it
PART ONE DETAILS: You dont need anything complex for the basic idea, it
could be as simple as a crossover or as complex as a story of what would
have happened if this HADNT happened (Perfect example, what would
MegaTokyo be like IF the Knight Sabers didnt exist)(BGC). But the
important thing is, decide on the core concept, that is the first step,
and the most important one IMHO.
PART TWO DETAILS: Put a spin on the idea, be assured if YOU thought it
up, so did someone else. Either they scrapped it or they wrote it
already, dont believe that you created anything original, you havent.
The spin is what makes it original, a perfect example(Quincy dies)(BGC),
Im sure someone has written a story on that(and if they have I'd like to
read the story). Put a spin on the death of Quincy. Who is this strange
man who looks like quincy and is claiming that he IS NOT DEAD?!
PART THREE DETAILS: Decide what type of story, taking the death of
quincy idea, suppose you want to write it as a tragedy. The man that
calls himself Quincy IS the real Quincy, and the man who has been
running Genom was an android who displaced him. The real Quincy is
forced to fight against the company that he once called his own, and in
the end it will kill him. Poetic justice maybe, but still a true
tragedy, to know that the damage done by genom was all because of an
insane boomer.
PART FOUR DETAILS: Begin sketching out some ideas, like how does the
quincy in the tower die, who kills him(this may have an impact on the
story). Also build some rough ideas on what happened to the real Quincy,
nothing major, but basic ideas. For now all you want is ideas, most of
which you will eventually scrap as you write the story.
PART FIVE DETAILS: This part should be self explanitory, start writing
the story. Begin to work the ideas you have into a cohesive story, build
on the characters involved, show the readers the anger of quincy at what
happened, show them the dismay at how he believes that he will fail.
PART SIX DETAILS: Hope that those who read it, like it. You cant make a
story that everyone will like, its impossible. I've seen story I thought
were ok, but others raved about. I've also seen the reverse.
Like I said, this is a method of madness, but one I have found works.
The story should hopefully flow as you write it. The stories I've
written so far have used this method, its not perfect, but its worked
for me. And if it works for even one other person who reads it, more
power to them!
Thanks for listening to my ideas.
