Love and Loss
Part Two
What went on before...
Karin is sent back in time once more to the twentieth century, this time
to kill Junta. Hikaru and Fuu discover that Tokyo was attacked while
they slept by a dragon and a pheonix. Fuu has a copy of the "Four Gods
'Sky and Earth'", and the first page, at first blank, soon proclaims
"Welcome, Magic Knights." Miaka and Tamahome are enjoying their time
together, blissfully unaware of the previous events, transpiring around
them.
And now, to continue....
Karin tried to raise the Director on the Interdimensional Relay,
but he wouldn't reply, or her signal wasn't getting through.
"Damn!" She yelled, slamming her fist onto the control console for
the eighth time in so many minutes. "I can't do it!" She cried out to
no one in particular. Her tears slid down the bridge of her nose as she
looked downward, then to fall and bead upon the plastex coated
instrument panel.
She sniffed and sat back in her chair. She looked up at the
ceiling, unblinking, trying to think of a way out of her situation. If
she just said no she would die, executed for directly disobeying an
order, and most likely endangerment to the timeline. If she did it...
No, she couldn't. She already knew that she would sooner die than
take the life of the one she loved. The only man she had ever loved,
their relationship doomed by a gap of a hundred years. It was painful
to say goodbye to him, her only consolation was in knowing he would be
safe and happy with Ami.
"What am I going to do?" She asked the heavens, which sent no
response.

"Fuu-chan, what are we going to do?" Hikaru asked, somewhat
frightened by the mysterious writing in the book.
"I'm not sure... perhaps we should let Umi in on all of this? I
would feel better if all three of us were together." Fuu answered,
closing the book.
Hikaru nodded, and they both headed out of the house and toward the
Ryuuzaki Estate.

"Miaka, what's wrong?" Tamahome looked at his wife with a worried
expression as he leaned down to help her stand.
She was holding her head and grimacing. "I... I don't... I don't
know." She inhaled a few times sharply, then continued, "There's a
sharp pain... I think... think something's happening..."
"What? What's happening? Where?" He did not like this one bit,
and he wasn't sure what he could do to make it better. He didn't know
where the doctors of this world resided. The city is such a monsterous
place.
Then, Miaka blinked and stood up straight. She looked around a
bit, then up at her upset looking husband. "It... It's gone."

Karin walked down the streets of an ancient Tokyo. A Tokyo that
was almost wholly unfamiliar to her. Fortunately, she was in one of the
more outer wards, thus the changes were fewer. However, when she looked
toward downtown she found it strange that she couldn't see any
skyskrapers and interbuilding transit systems. The horizon was so...
empty. Much like her heart.
She sighed and looked straight up into the sky. Small tufts of
cloud drifted along, apathetic to the feelings of the one who looked
upon them. Another tear slowly worked its way down just below her
temple, to be lost in the azure expanse of her hair.
A cry of "Excuse me!" brought her back to reality. Her head
snapped straight and she found herself watching two girls rushing toward
her seemingly as fast as they could go. What were they in such a hurry
for? One would think the fate of the universe was in the balance.
Karin snickered... they're probably off to see the most recent
episode of their favorite drama, and don't want to be late.
The flighty pair zoomed by her, and she turned to watch them
retreat. On a whim she pulled her gun, then fired at the red haired
one's back. The tracker hit its mark as usual. She smiled softly, it
soon turned into a frown. Should she really be having fun right now
when she should be thinking of a way to save her own hide?
She holstered her weapon and turned about once more to walk again,
her head bowed.

"Well, we're here... finally." Tamahome said as they approached
the large mansion.
Miaka smiled, looking up at the overbearing house. "Wow! It's so
big!"
Tamahome looked down at his wife with an eyebrow raised. "Miaka...
you've stayed in a Royal Home before... give it up."
She grimaced, then elbowed him the gut. She looked back at her
wincing husband. "When did you get such a mastery of our idioms?"
He shrugged, "Here and there."
Miaka rolled her eyes. "This from a guy who still presses his face
to the window of the monorail like a four year old."
Tamahome got a hurt look on his face and played the dejected
victim. He found Miaka couldn't take more than minute or two of the
'treatment' before giving in.
However, he would never find out if it would have worked or not,
because they were interrupted just then.
Both turned as they heard the beat of someone running at full
speed. They saw two young, pretty girls approaching at an amazing pace,
as though they would die if they didn't get somewhere as quick as
possible.
"Wow," Tamahome commented, "they sure are in shape."
Sometimes Miaka was especially thankful her hubbies gut was right
at easy elbowing height. He buckled like a belt. She smiled.
The two girls... they stopped right by them.
The four of them looked at each other for a moment, no one able to
figure out what to say.
Finally, Fuu took the initiative. "Are you here to see Umi?" She
asked of the Miaka.
Miaka nodded her head. "I'm the daughter of a good friend of her
family. We haven't seen each other in years though."
"Really?" Fuu replied, "That's nice... however we really have to
talk with her in private for just a moment... possibly longer." She
amended the last part after a pause.
Tamahome spoke up, "What's so important? You seem to think
something horrendous is going to happen if you don't get in there."
Fuu looked up at the man before her, who was easily the most
gorgeous specimen of male godliness she had ever had the good fortune to
lay eyes upon. She might be a woman in love, but he still made her
flushed. "Uh, yeah... we need to talk about this." She lifted up the
book, not expecting any reaction whatsoever.
She was rather shocked when the couple gasped in recognition. She
glanced at Hikaru, and found her gaze plastered soley on the young man
in front of her, a dreamy look in her eye. Oh man, she thought, better
nip this in the bud quickly. She looked at Miaka. "Um, excuse me... if
you don't mind me asking... what is your relationship with this young
man?" She could instantly feel Hikaru's glare begin to melt a hole in
the side of her head.
Miaka answered slowly and detached, "Husband."
Fuu grinned slightly as she almost audibly heard Hikaru's dream
shatter like so much crystal.
"Where did you get that book?" Tamahome asked the girls.
Fuu blinked, "It's been in my family for many generations... it's
from my personal library."
He frowned, then looked at Miaka. "What do you suppose this
means?"
She slowly looked back at him. "It means... it's not over."
Fuu and Hikaru were confused.
END PART TWO
Sorry... it's still a wee bit confusing... this plot is the type that
will take time to nurture. Bear with it... I hope it's entertaining
enough. Send comments, please!
