AFAIK, he created them all, but Lipamura was the only one who turned on him.

I would imagine you need to, since that's not quite right - Lipamura was
corrupted and controlled by another of the ships at the time - she was
powerless as someone else used her body to kill the man she loved.  All the
rest of the ships are under the thrall of the one ship, who's name I can't
remember off the top of my head - once Lipamura kills her, the rest are
released.  Rain is pretty much Lipamura's sister or closest friend from
before the one ship went bad and took over.  And I question that the Calion
guy was the one that created them, though I'm not sure on that - it's been
a while since I saw the anime as well.  I thought it was the aliens from
outside our galaxy (the ones the size of planets) that created the ships.
