Well, here is chapter 1 of The End is the Beginning.  PLEASE send C&C.  I got none last time, and any suggestions are very helpful.

Neon Genesis Evangelion:

The End is the Beginning.

Prologue: The End of a Story

An EDF Production.

Written by Helix and Rune.

aka Travis Carr and Jonathan Lloyd.

"The founding of the Evangelion Defense Force was one of the strangest in histroy. Needing to use young children as pilots caused a deep undertone of resentment to the Force in the beginning, but like all things, the force of necessity can move any mountain..."

The Beginning: The history of the EDF. 30 AR.

...35 AR... ...2135...

The new recruits had finally settled in, dividing up dorm rooms and such amongst themselves. Ryan sighed as he entered the last unclaimed room, down at the end of the cadets hall. He looked around at his ample accomidations, two bunkbeds lined up against each wall, and dressers at the base of each. Apparently his room mates had not arrived yet, so he took to settling himself in. Time passed as Ryan unpacked his bags, pulling out a few music CD's for the computer, a photo of his parents and brother that had been taken off the coast of Florida, back before the days of the war. Finally done unpacking, Ryan lay back across his bed and looked at the ceeling, considering his options. Only half of the new recruits would be chosen as combat pilots. And only three quarters of them were likely to survive the brutal training in the weeks to come, the other either washing out... or dying.

Ryan finally walked to the door, figuring that he had gotten off lucky and not gotten any room mates. Well, sharing a room could be kind of fun, but he knew that relations could wear thin after a time. Especially when the cadets were stuck in the same rooms all day, and all night as well.

"All right scrubs, LISTEN UP!" The seargent bellowed. "My name is SARGENT Stickly. And I dont want to hear Mr. Stickly, yo, or anything like that directed my way. Sir is for your fellow Eva commanders, so you can call me Sarge, or Sargent. Stick to it, do well, and I guarantee that we'll get along well. If not..." Stickly cracked his knuckles meaningfully. "All right, recruits, fall in! Your going to your first lesson in 20 minuites. Be settled in by then and out in the meeting area in 20 minuites."

Ryan sighed, turing back into his room to enjoy the last few minuites of non-military life left to him...

...

The professor droned on, and on, and on... Ryan caught himself just before he nodded off. This history class had been boring so far, with the studies of ancent wars and tatics that had been outdated with the construction of the Evangelions. And to Ryan, this had to be one of the most boring classes yet. And it had just started ten minuites ago.

"Mr. Fusha, please answer the question."

Ryan jearked up, blinking in surprise. "I'm sorry, what did you say?"

"Mr. Fusha, please, what was the name of the battle that Neplolian was defeated at?"

"Ummm... waterslide?" Ryan stammered.

"Close Mr. Fusha. It was called Waterloo. Its nice to see that the lintcatcher of a brain of yours can catch even these small facts." The professor nodded. "Class, I can see that your bored..." A hand shot up. "Yes, Miss..."

"Ikari. Rei Langly Ikari. Professor-sensi, just why ARE we having this class?" Ryan turned to see who was speaking. The girl was standing in the back, with her dark brown hair pulled into a pair of pigtails. She had a severe yet pretty face, which was doing its best to look bored out of its mind.

"Ah, yes... Miss Ikari, this class is to teach you the value of history. Combat in a Evangelion is certainly much diffrent that combat in those ancient days, but one must realize that even the most insignificant lessons in history can be very improtant under the right circumstances." the professor looked at the sceptical Rei and continued. "My job is to teach you to think for yourselves. And one day this information may become useful to you, even if its usefulness is not immediately apparent. And if you are done, Miss Ikari, will you please SIT DOWN???"

Rei dropped into her seat, and Ryan heard a whispered "Nice going sis." before the professor resumed his lesson.

...

Finally the most anticipated class of the day had arrived... Evangelion Orientation. Always taught by one of the more senior pilots, it was also the one that dropped the most cadets. Apparently this class lasted four HOURS, Ryan noted from his schedule. "Hey," he shouted to a boy standing next to him of the walkway. "Why the heck is the Orientation class so long?"

The boy turned and glanced at Ryan. "Ummm, apparently we do more than learn about the Evas there. We service the Evas, learn technical informations, as well as view some of the past engagements." the boy raked his dark brown hair out of his eyes. "Myt dad told me about it a while ago..."

Ryan looked the boy over. White shirt, jeans... rather normal boy. Strange, considering that most Eva pilots children were reputated to be rather strange. "So, was your dad a pilot?"

"Yeah..." was all that Ryan could hear before the life emerged into the cage area. A vast cavern at the bottom of the compound, the cage was a lake of the pink coolant that Ryan had seen earlier. "Wait a second, why was there coolant up above too?"

One of the students responded. "Why do you think, you baka? They obviously need a ready bay, for rearming and such. So that bay is located higher in the base." Ryan had a moment to notice Rei Ikari before she vanished into the crowd of students.

Finally they came to a stop infront of one of the Evangelions. Ryan gazed up at the head of the massive andriod, towering at least three stories above them. Ryan let out a quiet "wow" as he examined the Eva, at a range that he had never DREAMED of hearing of one.

Finally a bullhorn sounded, and a voice came over the speaker. "Greetings cadets, my name is Leutenent Commander Samuel Johnson, and I'll be guidng you through this Eva Orientation class. Now if you all step off the lift onto the platform..."

The class stepped foward onto the platform, and there was a collective gasp as the Evangelion turned to face them. It lifted an arm into the air, giving the class a salute. "This is the type 3 Evangelion Combat Android. This particular model is designed for Hand to Hand combat with the enemy." As he spoke, the Evangelion turned to face its back to them. The entry plug ejected, stopping just over the platform that the cadets stood on. They watched as the Leutenent Commander stepped out of the entry plug, and dropped nimbly to the deck.

"All right recruits, time to get started. First we're going to review the parts of the Evangelion, as well as its weapon systems..."

Ryan simply stared in shock as he looked at the man who was teaching the class. It couldn't be...

"Big Brother?"
