Love and Loss
Prologue (Rough Draft)

     "Ouch! Karin!"
The young blue-haired woman swiveled about, focusing on the
Director's face with only passing interest. "Yeah?"
"You're going back." He instructed, straightening his glasses with
a finger.
     "Back?"
"Yes, back to the late twentieth century." He specified.
"What?!" She cried, "Why?" No, she thought, after all that
trouble... why again? Why would she have to endure all that again?
Didn't she get a break for a job well done... um... a job done, anyway?
She needed time! Time to get her cute pet, her sweet home, her...
her.... She broke down into tears, burying her face in her hands.
The Time Director looked bemused for a moment... what did he say?
"Um, Karin... are you okay? You are about to leave."
As if to underscore his words, the computer announced in a
sing-song voice, "Transfer in thirty seconds."
Instantly, Karin's tears dried. "Wait!" She screamed, "What am I
supposed to do?"
The Director smiled, "We've downloaded everything you'll need to
know into your on-board computer. Good lu..."
He was cut off as the ship formed a dimensional gateway and slipped
into the past.

     "Miaka! Hold up!"
"Oh, come on, Tama-chan!" She furrowed her brow in mock
accusation, "Are you getting soft on me?"
Tamahome caught up with her and stuck a finger to her forehead.
"No, but I always said you were the strongest of all of us."
Miaka grinned, then suplexed him, twisting with extra loving care.
"Ow! Ow! Miaka!" He cried, wincing in pain. "You've made your
point! Okay!"
She smiled and hugged him, looking into his eyes. "You want me to
kiss it and make it better?" Her voice had turned slightly seductive.
Tamahome gulped, with Suzaku called and dominated, it seemed the
Miko had even higher goals in mind. Well, to coin an Earthly phrase, he
could dig it.

     "You slept through it!?"
"Oniichan... I was tired! If only you knew what we went through!"
     "'We' who?"
"Umi, Fuu, and I, that's who!" Hikaru yelled... her brother was
really starting to raise her ire.
"Well, whatever... how could you sleep through a dragon attack?!"
This caught her a bit short. "A... a what?"
Her brother crossed his arms, and grinned the grin of one who had
gotten a blow in. "Downtown, a few hours ago. A huge monster, much
like a dragon had a big fight with a huge red bird. Then, after they
destroyed half the city everything went right back to the way it was.
If looked at Tokyo now, you'd never notice anything had happened at
all."
Hikaru blinked in confusion. Had something come through from
Cefiro? This all bore looking into. "Thanks, oniichan!" She waved and
ran out of the house, leaving her brother with his jaw hanging open
about to address thin air.
Hikaru motored down the street, turning multiple times and ignoring
the looks she was receiving, until she arrived at her destination. She
pressed the call button next to the gate of the Hououji estate. Why
anyone would need *that* much space to live in was beyond her, but to
each their own she supposed. Fuu would probably see the Dojo as being a
ridiculous waste of space, in retrospect.
"Hikaru! Come on in!" The speaker told her after a moment. She
looked around for a moment, confused. "Above you, to the right." The
speaker added helpfully. Sure enough, there was a camera perched there.
Hikaru smiled and waved. "Yeah, yeah... get in here." Fuu said with a
sigh.
The gates were already open, and Hikaru skipped through them and
into the yard. She heard a growl from her right and glanced over to see
a cage containing three vicious looking Dobermans. "Kawaii!" She
cried, and rushed right over to them.
The animals seemed shocked at the fact that a teenage girl would
just run right toward them. Most people were scared to death of them.
They weren't sure whether to be violent or afraid, so they just stayed
confused.
Fuu met Hikaru, who was petting Ikari, one of their most vicious
dogs. At first she was worried, then she noticed the look of glee on
Ikari's face and calmed down. She rolled her eyes, it's amazing the
effect Hikaru has on animals. "What brings you here, Hikaru?" She
asked, finally coming to rest next to her friend.
"Fuu," Hikaru began, turning serious, "do you know anything about
an attack on Tokyo?"
Fuu was shocked. "Uh, no... I was asleep, exhausted after our last
battle."
Hikaru nodded, "So was I... but niichan told me about it after I
got up. I figured we should look into it. You don't suppose something
could have followed us back, do you?"
"Doubtfull... why would it have taken almost a day to manifest
itself? It took us at least that long to get home and settled." Fuu
looked suspicious, "What exactly attacked Tokyo?"
"Well, oniichan says a giant dragon and a huge red bird." Hikaru
answered.
"Giant blue dragon..." Fuu stopped, her eyes widening. She turned
about and ran back toward her house.
Hikaru jumped up and followed, curiosity getting the best of her.
Fuu made her way to the library, instantly making her way to the
Ancient Legends section. There she read the spines of the old tomes
until coming to rest on the one she had been searching for. She pulled
it out and turned around, almost knocking Hikaru over. "Oh, sorry,
Hikaru... are you okay?"
"Yeah," Hikaru replied, "What have you got there?" She pointed at
the book Fuu was holding.
"It's called 'The Four Gods 'Sky and Earth.'' It's a very old
legend of a girl who became one with the story, gathered seven Seishi,
called forth an animal God, and made all her wishes come true." Fuu
explained.
"Wow, you know a lot about it... how come? Did you read it?"
"No, according to legend, to read it is to become a part of it.
It's been in our family for generations and no one has looked into it...
however, another text tells what it is and what it's history is. I'm
afraid I really don't know that much about it."
"Why did you rush in here for it? What has it got to do with the
attack on Tokyo?" Hikaru asked.
Fuu sighed, "You see... two of the animal Gods are a blue dragon,
and a red pheonix. Actually, until we found out Rayearth was a wolf, I
figured he would be a pheonix as well."
Hikaru nodded, "Actually, so did I." She blinked a few times, "So,
what do we do now?"
Fuu blinked in return, "I'm not entirely sure."
"Well, why don't you open the book?" She nodded toward the leather
bound volume.
Fuu looked down at it with a worried gaze. "What if it draws us
into the story?"
Hikaru shrugged, "What if it does? Nothing we can't handle, I'm
sure."
Usually, Fuu thinks discression is the better part of valor, but
something told her they were on the right track this time. "Okay,
Hikaru." She said, then turned to the first page of the book.
The binding cracked slightly from age, and dust fell from the
yellowing pages. Fuu's eyes widened as she looked at the first page.
"It's blank!" She exclaimed.
Hikaru nodded, "Why? Why would someone write nothing?" She
furrowed her brow in thought.
     "I don't know."
Hikaru lit up suddenly. "Hey! What if what the legend says is
true? What if a person is drawn in and that's the story? Then, there
would be no text until a person was taken in!" Hikaru was very pleased
with herself.
Fuu raised her eyebrows. "That actually makes sense. But why
isn't the text from the last pers... oh, this must be the first time the
book has ever been opened."
Hikaru nodded and looked down into the book again. Her face lit
up, "Fuu, there's something!" She pointed at the page, where some kanji
had just appeared. "Looks like Chinese, I can't read it."
Fuu looked at the characters for a moment, decifering them. Then,
she gasped.
"What?" Hikaru asked, "What does it say?"
Fuu almost dropped the book when the confirmed her first
translation. "It says, 'Welcome, Magic Knights.'"

"Arriving in late twentieth century." The computer announced.
Karin activated her viewscreen, noting her location in an old
junkyard. Then, she brought up the information on her assignment. She
also tried to keep away the thought that Junta was out there, somewhere.
The smaller info screen showed various mission perameters and a
whole lot of technical information she usually didn't pay attention to.
Finally, the objective came up on the screen.
Her jaw dropped. She rubbed her eyes, and banged on the side of
the screen. It couldn't be right, it just couldn't. They wouldn't send
her to do something like this would they? They aren't that cold hearted
are they? Tears began to well up in her eyes as she stared at the
uncaring monitor.
On it, in large reddish lettering were the words, "Terminate
Momonari Junta."

Author's Notes:
I know, I know... everything is still a bit fuzzy. Don't worry, all the
series will come together soon. Also, I realize Miaka wished everything
back to the way it was, but I just altered the area it effected to the
area of damage... so anyone outside would still know of the event. Send
comments, very important!
Thanks for reading,
