So you think the characters could survive the events of the end of the
series and NOT change at all?  Wasn't that sort of the point of the end,
that each of them did change and had to change?

The real problem that I have is how things got back to a 'life as usual'
situation in the world itself.  Whatever happens after Evangelion, going
back to school wasn't likely to be what happened next.

The problem lies in the title of the fic "After the Angels" which would lead
one to belive that it takes place after Evangelion.  This may or may not be
the case, however, as the author describes events in the fic where Rei saves
Asuka from an angel by taking the blow for her which--as far as I know never
happens in Eva.  Nor does the author ever say that it happens after Eva and
the title is the only thing that supports that conclusion.

The author does try to give some reasons why the characters are acting the
way they are.  Now, not all of the explanations are entirely satisfactory
to me, but the author didn't just have people act weird for no reason.

That's true for Asuka, but not for Rei.  The author gives no explanation why
Rei acts like she does in the fic.  Yes, she's pining for Shinji but why did
she start?
