Besides, I can think of one good reason why Squaresoft *wouldn't*
give permission for someone to write a novelization: it'd give away too
much of the game. Waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much. So much that nobody who read
the book would even have to *play* the game, which translates to
"massively reduced sales of the game." Frankly, if a novelization came
out, I'd be torn between buying it and getting the PC version of FF7 when
it comes out (I don't have a PlayStation). I *want* to get the game and
play it through from beginning to end, okay? Much as I enjoy reading, half
the fun of a video RPG is working your way through the storyline as the
game progresses.
actually, i think it would be a really good idea of Squaresoft did aprove
a novelization of FFVII. i'm a huge fan of the FF series, and i know i'd
really like to read the story line, but i don't have a PlayStation or a
PC. so unless SS releases a Mac version of FFVII, i'm screwed. and i
know i can't be the only one with the same problem. they'd probably reach
a great number of fans who ordinarily wouldn't be able to play the game
AND the fans who liked the story so much they'd enjoy a prose version of
it. in the end that means MORE sales. sounds like a good plan to me.
