A question on a minor clothing detail ....

I've noticed that Cloud Strife and Sephiroth both have the same symbol (as far
as I can tell) on their belts (or belt buckles). 

I'm wondering why these two enemies would both wear the same design.  Does
anyone know what's the particular significance or meaning of that symbol?
