I think that it's important to note that the way an author portrays a
character is important, but not in just being able to describe the
character efficiently.  Anyone could describe a character effectively, but
I think there's something to be said about being able to make a character
absolutely despicable, and involving at the same time.  

I can't point out any examples, but I really enjoy those fics that can
make something out to be so absolutely despicable, so "hate-able," that
you want to kill them right there and then, but you don't.  Instead, you
keep reading in the hopes that something will happen to them.

Well, I hope I haven't repeated anything, though I feel like I have.
