Despair:
Pluto
A Sailor Moon and Teknoman Crossover
Written by Christian Clark
Date: April 15, 2100
After all this time, I still do not understand why.
Everything in this world was not supposed to happen. Saturn was not
supposed to have been crushed by that building, Neptune was not supposed
to die in the acid spray, and Jupiter was not supposed to needlessly
sacrifice herself against that Teknoman.
Now, even people that are supposed to be my allies look upon me with
contempt. As if it would come as any surprise to anyone after the way I
treated them. Turnabout is fair play, is it not? When I try and ask
what's going on and what they mean, all I receive is a glare and some
snide remark. Still, it comes as of no surprise. Even after we got a
message from Molly none of them told me anything.
What I was able to overhear, the shelter that Darien lived was cut off
by power loss. Everyone there was fine. Not only that, the survivors
that Reeni was living with, would be arriving the day after tomorrow.
I recall going through the timestream to meet with Saturn, while she
looking for Reeni. I had this unusual feeling that someone else was
there and they were just as powerful as I was. I tried to make haste,
but the unusual figure in a black cloak blocked my path. There was
absolutely no color upon this person's skin to speak of, neither was
there any in it's eyes or clothes.
"Now, now little Susan." The rather person of indeterminate gender
cooed. "The strands of time aren't your toys." With that, I was suddenly
hurled to who knows where in the time strands. Having no power of my own
to guide where I was going, I could only watched as I saw visions. They
were of Serena and the other Inner Scouts.
Every one of their stares was directed at me, and there was only
malice, distrust, blame, silence, and complete hatred in their gazes. I
wondered what this being was doing to me, until someone had grabbed my
arms from behind and locked me into a full nelson. Totally immobilizing
my arms. I tried to struggle, but my captor's voice shocked me into
stillness.
"Don't worry Susan. We won't hurt you too much." Growled Serena. I
looked ahead to see the other inner scouts dressed in full plate armor,
grinning like a pack of hungry wolves before a helpless lamb.
The darkness from them all was overwhelming. But I had no time to fully
analyze what going on as Mars threw her fist, straight into my chest,
breaking a rib here and there. Raye then stepped aside to allow a much
more vicious looking Jupiter to knee me in the stomach, knocking out all
my breath.
As I collapsed to the ground, I started to feel the pain of being kicked
repeatedly with inhuman strength. I could hear their laughter, their
cold, heartless laughter. Mocking me, insulting me, doing everything
they could to belittle me. The beating continued. More bones were
broken. I could feel the internal bleeding start. The pain soon became
too great as I felt my will to live leave me.
When I was ready to die, I was turned over. My battered and beaten body
was picked up by the neck, by Serena. She hoisted me high above her
head, her blood-red eyes standing out more than her demonic grin. "Don't
forget who and what you are, bitch. NOTHING!"
Then, she began to inject power into me, overloading what I could hold.
The last thing I heard was their laughter as I exploded.
Then, I woke up. Completely covered in perspiration and in civilian
garb. I looked around me to see that the city I was in was decimated.
There was no life whatsoever. I knew this was going to happen, but
something was wrong.
Knowing where the other scouts were, I found them in an older building.
I happened to come upon Moon, Mars, Venus, and Mercury in the middle of
a meeting. To say my 'reception' was a little less than warm, would have
been an understatement. I discovered soon after, that the being I
encountered must have sealed off my powers of time travel. And when I
found out that I was trapped, I knew that the Time Staff was no longer
of any use.
Knowing the situation, I could do only one thing. I would fight
alongside Serena and the remaining scouts, until the Earth belonged to
its people again. And maybe, I could earn the trust of the Inner Scouts
back. I can only hope that we will live to see that day.
I know that I vowed never to use the Dark Dome Close, but now I have no
choice. I can only hope that the powers that be will forgive me for
breaking that promise.
Never before have I ever felt so helpless. The future that I traveled
to so many times before, does not even seem to exist. All there is is
uncertainty. 'What if' have always been two words that I never really
gave that much thought into. Now it seems I will spend many an hour
brooding over those two words I thought I would never use.
What if I cannot get my powers back?
What if the light within the Scouts becomes the darkness?
What if Crystal Tokyo still comes to pass, without the guiding light
of Serenity?
What if we do not survive this war?
What if we were never meant to be victorious?
What if the lineage of Serenity was to end here in this war?
What if
What if
What if
*************************************************
Among the ruins of the city the scouts lived in a new shadow appeared.
It sneered at the building where his targets were. There were six of
them within the building. And all of them had the power that would make
his next hunt interesting.
Teknoman Rapier wondered exactly how these six women had the power to
rival that of those renegade teknomen that wandered the Earth.
<Well, no matter. They will all make either nice concubines or
beautiful trophies. > He thought maliciously. He looked back at the
small hoard of spider crabs that he had rounded up and put under his
control and ordered the attack to begin. No one ever interrupted his
hunt and these women would pay dearly for their interference.
Jumping onto the building nearest to theirs, several plates opened up
and began to glow. He aimed it at the very top of the building, only
wanting to grab their attention.
"TEKNO BOLT!"
*************************************************
The building rocked by the assault and its residents didn't need to
take more than a guess to know whom it was.
Luna, in her human form, felt the urge to summon that being she
recalled from that memory, only it was much stronger than before.
Struggling, she ran into Alex's room, found the aforementioned on her
bed, withered from lack of proper food and sleep.
"Alex! Alex! Wake up! We need your help!" Luna screamed, seeing some
debris fall to the floor from the ceiling.
"Life what is it just a mere spark in the great light that is time
itself and" her weak and dulled filibuster was interrupted as Luna's
hand slapped its way across her cheek. Oddly enough, it brought her out
of the daze to see Luna's scared and angered face.
"Alex, get your act together! We are under attack! Get going!"
All that Luna saw was her angered face as she replied, "Why should I?
Michelle's dead, there's nothing left for me." Alex screamed back.
Instead of Luna leaving her alone, she grabbed Alex's collar, yanked
Uranus to her face and hissed,
"And how do you think Michelle would feel if you just killed yourself
here? I may be just a cat most of the time, but I know how your two felt
for each other. Now, do you think that Michelle would want you to act
like this? Do you think she'd want your blood on her soul because you
were too stubborn to do anything? Do you think you could just abandon
your duty to Serena and the others just to feed your selfish interests?"
That was one of the few times Alex actually listened to words other
than her own. She looked to her right as she considered what Michelle
would want.
No, Michelle wouldn't want her acting this way. Michelle still would
have continued to fight for Serenity and the future and for the good of
all. Releasing herself from Luna's grip, she stomped over to the far
corner of her room and pulled out the Space Sword from the pile of
rubble that piled itself over it. With her weapon in hand, she felt the
weapon's reluctance to be her weapon, on account that darkness in her
heart did not agree with the sword's will.
Gritting her teeth, Alex exerted her will over the sword's and soon
enough, the sword was filled with both holy and evil power. It was her
weapon once more. With that complete, she dashed out the door and into
the fray where the other Soldiers were in the middle of combat.
Luna, seeing Alex return to her senses, sat on her bed and whispered to
no one in particular, "Welcome back, Alex."
*************************************************
Outside, the scouts were finding every which way filled with Spider
crabs, but none of them were willing to cash it in without a fight.
Moon and Sailor Pluto, although not exactly on the best of terms,
watched each other's back as several spheres of chronological death and
blades of silver screamed through the air. They both made a note, not to
be more than ten feet of each other, for any kind of inattention could
lead to dire consequences.
"MOON CRESCANT BLADE!" Serena screamed as more of her primary weapon
sailed into and through five spidercrabs. Destroying them all. Looking
down, she saw the under-powered and almost overwhelmed Sailor Pluto.
Smirking, she dashed down and commenced a Moonlight Strike, through all
nine crabs that tried to make her their next lunch. She had a wicked
idea, but figured they needed somewhere private to talk.
Pluto, although grateful to Moon that she had saved her, felt that
assurance vanish as she saw Serena's silver glow dash at her. Instead of
ending her life then and there, she felt Serena catch her in her right
arm and leave the battle field with a few of the spider crabs in
pursuit. They were lost as both of them hid within one of the few
standing buildings.
Within, Susan was panting, not only with the loss of strength, but of
breath at Serena's 'rescue'. She looked around as Serena sat on a stool
behind her, thinking of the right things to say to the 'last' Sailor
Scout.
"Susan" Serena said simply. Confused, Pluto did so,"the reason why I
brought you here is to point out the fact that you were failing back
there."
Susan took another breath before speaking, "I apologize, it's just that
without my staff I am not as powerful as I used to be."
This didn't deter Serena as she continued, "Susan. Why? What keeps you
from accepting it?"
Susan blinked, "What?"
"The darkness, Susan. Why haven't you followed the rest of us and
become strong?"
The hardness and pure ice in Serena's gaze stripped Susan of her
confidence as she replied, "Because as Sailor Scouts, we are supposed
to be as devoted to the light as we can. Not daring to touch the
darkness."
"Why is that?"
"Because we were never meant to use the darkness that our foes have
mastered."
"You really believe that?"
"Of course."
Susan couldn't believe what she heard next. Laughter. Not devoid of
sanity, but pure, mirthful, and joyous laughter. Until the following
snarl scared the wits out of Sailor Pluto, "And here I thought you were
supposed to be intelligent! Get off that blasted pedestal that our pasts
have put us up on and get real! You think that just because we have to
be defenders, we have to ONLY be in the light?
"That's not how reality works, you can't have good without evil and the
reason why we've grown strong is that we met the evil within us all and
we conquered it."
To the surprise of Moon, she began to hear sobbing, and it was coming
from Susan. Moon turned around and knelt in front of the crying Sailor,
wondering what was wrong.
"It it's just that I have no control over anything any more! I've lost
the ability to travel through time, I can not put up a fight anymore I
was so used to being omniscient and now I know nothing. And I am of no
use to anyone anymore"
Serena's heart broke when the last of Pluto's courage finally left her.
She suddenly wished that she never punched her when Susan came back, nor
said any of those awful things to her. Now, with the enemy attacking,
they needed as much help as they could.
Sighing, Serena knew that she had to let go of the past. It was meant to
be learned from, not to let it obstruct the present and future. She
tapped Pluto's shoulder, and when the sobbing scout looked up, there was
the face of a friend. Not one of an enemy, not one of a commander, not
of a princess, but a friend.
"Um Susan. We could sure use your help out there. Think you're up to
it?"
For the first time ever since she came to this nightmare, Susan smiled
and nodded. "But I don't know if I can call the power you can."
Kneeling by her, Serena placed her hand onto Pluto's forehead. "You can,
you just need a little help getting there." She closed her eyes and
slowly connected their minds and hearts. Suddenly, everything went dark
for both of them.
*************************************************
In the void, both Moon and Sailor Pluto searched along every part of
the void. Finding only nothing where there was supposed to be something.
Time had no meaning for them as they continued their search for the lost
key to Pluto's greater power.
Serena's eyes narrowed at the next point of their stop. "There it is."
The black mist that was located at the deepest recesses of Pluto's
heart and mind reveled in itself. Until it saw Serena and Pluto. It
tired to run away, but Serena's greater control over the darkness
prevented it from escaping.
"What is it doing?" Susan asked.
"It knows of our intent. It was waiting for a more opportune time to
emerge so it could take command of you. But now that you want to make
use of it, it doesn't want to." She turned to Pluto, who seemed a little
apprehensive, "Now Susan. Go. Once you assert your will over it, it is
yours to command. It is still weak, thanks to me. Take advantage"
Gathering up what little courage she had left, Susan left the side of
Serena and stepped towards the cloud of darkness. Clenching her teeth
and eyes closed, she jumped into the mist. Serena breathed a sigh of
relief when the mist started to die down, and soon enough, it grew
smaller and flew into the human form that was standing within.
Once Pluto gained control over the darkness, Serena felt her mind
reeling out of Susan's and back into her own.
*************************************************
Back in the real world, Serena stepped away from the whirlwind of dark
purple colored energy that encircled Susan. Within, Sailor Pluto curled
her body as much as she could as the newer power that she had no access
to, emerged. Even though it was dark, it was not the same darkness that
brought fear, but a darkness that brought safety and comfort.
She could feel the seal on her ability to travel through time beginning
to fade, but it was still there. Although a little despondent about not
getting her time travel power back, she found several more powerful
attacks that would have made the Dead Scream and Dark Dome Close seem
insignificant.
Her sailor suit began to glow a darker shade of purple, but instead of
dissolving, it grew. The fuku grew in length and split in half, then
wrapped around her legs, and continued to grow until the plates of armor
grew from the glow. Her shirt went through a similar process. The glow
crept over her arms and a little bit of her neck. As if the glow was
made of liquid, pauldrons, a complete breastplate, and gauntlets emerged
from the light, and hardened into the armor that would protect her.
Soon enough, a woman, wearing black and shade-purple full plate armor
stepped forth. The whirlwind dissipated into nothing and the woman
turned to Serena. There was now confidence, understanding, and
determination behind her eyes as she noticed Serena, and knelt.
"I, Pluto, Soldier of Time, am now at your disposal Lady Serenity."
Rolling her eyes, Moon, lifted up her friend, smiled, and said, "Forget
the formalities. We got a planet to save." Before Pluto could either
apologize or agree, a spider crab burst through the wall.
Before Serena could even summon her blades, Pluto stepped in front of
her and extended an arm, yelling, "PLUTO CHRONOS DISRUPTOR!" The very
second her weapon was announced, several spheres of dark purple energy
appeared around the giant and shot through it. Only to be replaced by
more, which followed suit, until the crab was no more.
Gesturing to the open wall, Pluto said, "Shall we go?"
Serena smiled and dashed for the exit.
*************************************************
Mercury and Mars both kept the giants at bay with what little room they
could maneuver with.
"MARS DEMON TORCH!" Raye screamed and covered three spider crabs with
black fire. As they were trying to extinguish the fire, it only ate up
more and more of their shells. Once it was dead, the black fire searched
for more of the giants to consume.
"MERCURY FREEZING RAIN!" Amy screamed, sending a shower that covered a
group of seven spider crabs with rain that would have been measured at
absolute zero. Despite their attempts to move, the giants found it
fruitless as all cellular activity within their shells came to a
screeching halt.
Meanwhile, Mina wasn't as lucky as the others were. Having no one to
cover her back, she found all avenues of escape gone as they closed in
for the kill. Just when they were ready to eat her alive, a separate
voice screamed,
"URANUS SEISMIC SPIRE!" From no where, several spires of rock erupted
form the ground and pierced every last crab that was attempting to take
Venus' life. Mina looked to her right to see Alex, stabbing the Star
Sword into the ground. She looked a little worse for wear, but more than
sane enough to kill the crabs that killed the only one who meant
anything to her.
"Hey Alex! Great to see you back!" Mina cheered. Alex merely nodded in
reply, and went after the nearest group of spider crabs to kill.
*************************************************
Fifteen minutes later, all the spider crabs had been slashed, pierced,
flambed, frozen, exploded, imploded, and just plain killed.
When victory seemed so close for the Soldiers, Rapier chose this time
to strike.
Several gashes appeared on Serena's left arm as she saw the reason for
their being there. With no words being needed, the six Soldiers
attacked and soon regretted it.
Every time one would try to attack, Rapier would simply vanish into a
blur of lines and find a brand new injury somewhere on their bodies.
Even super-teaming him proved to be fruitless.
Pluto slashed downward with a sword made of darkness and only hit the
ground. Three new gashes appeared on her right arm as Rapier was
laughing his head off at their attempts to even touch him, let alone
stop him. What made his foes even madder was that they couldn't even see
him.
Most of the injured Soldiers used several places to rest and
recuperate, hoping that Rapier didn't get any ideas about hunting them.
Sad to say, this wasn't so.
Raye clenched her teeth and held the left leg that had sustained the
most injuries out of everywhere else. She was about to stand up, when
she saw a black figure, hopping off the building in front of her and
heading straight at her. It was Rapier, with his weapon drawn and the
point aimed straight at her heart.
It would have easily lanced her through, had not a spear from nowhere
forced it into the ground. Raye looked to her right to see another
teknoman. His yellow-topaz, ruby, and sapphire colored armor gleaming in
the light. Rapier was too confused at seeing this new comer that the
stranger whacked him away, grabbed Reye, and flew off.
"I promised you I'd be back. Didn't I?" the voice within the suit of
armor whispered to her.
Raye blinked. "Chad?"
He nodded and landed about a block or two from where Rapier was. For
the time being, they were temporarily safe.
*************************************************
Luna saw what was going on and she didn't like it at all. What made her
migraine worse was that the key to releasing that monster was growing
stronger. She was running out of options. At this rate, her students
would be finished. Was it worth releasing a demon to save the earth?
As much as her heart said no, logic wouldn't be deterred this time.
Running to the basement, she opened the radio to the Soldiers and said,
"Everyone. Are you all still there?"
To her relief, all six of them replied the affirmative.
"Listen. I do have an idea, but it's very risky. It involves releasing
an ancient power that will fuse you all into a single power, and it
might be strong enough to be Rapier. But I would rather let you decide
first."
Mercury was the first to answer, "Despite how appealing it may be,
there seems to be a discrepancy. Isn't there?"
Luna, hoping she wouldn't have to say what she knew, replied, "Yes. I
am not sure whether this being will be on the side of Earth or not. But
I think that it's a chance we have to take."
There was silence, until it was broken by Serena's answering the
affirmative. Pluto and Venus followed next. Then, the rest consented.
"What do we have to do Luna?" Serena asked.
"Just give me three minutes and leave it to me." Luna said, turning off
the radio and running to the roof.
*************************************************
Back on the outside, Raye and Chad were talking in as hushed tones as
they could, knowing that Rapier could appear at any moment.
"Luna said she needed three minutes. Think we can last that long?" she
asked her knight in shining armor.
Looking down, Spear deliberated for a second before answering, "Yeah.
If I can run a distraction long enough, Luna might be able to pull it
off."
Raye's eyes widened in horror, "You can't be serious! Rapier will kill
you! I won't let you!"
He silenced her with a finger on her lips. He embraced her as gently as
he could and whispered in her ear, "Please Raye. I want to prove that I
can be strong enough. Besides, I've faced worse than this guy."
Before she could try and stop him, the thrusters on his back flared to
life and he jumped into the sky.
*************************************************
Reaching the roof, Luna cleared the floor she needed to stand on. Once
that was completed, she stood straight as a ramrod, held both hands on
each other, and began to whisper in a tongue that had been long since
forgotten.
*************************************************
"HEY! RAPIER!" Chad yelled as he came to rest on the edge of a
building. Surely enough, the teknoman in question appeared.
"What is it you want, insect? I'm busy." He growled.
Chad retorted with as much bravery as he could put into this lie,
"Forget them, it's you I wanna fight. Why waste time with them when you
can get beaten by me?"
Rapier smirked beneath his helmet and drew his weapon. "So, you too
have a death wish? Very well then, boy, I'll make sure it's granted,
after I've had some fun with you!" With that, he vanished into the same
blur that had eluded his previous opponents.
Chad drew his weapon and prepared to attack, but got no further as
Rapier's shoulder collided with his back and forced him into the next
building.
*************************************************
By then, Luna's human form was completely covered in conflicting
energies, colored in bronze, silver, and gold. The summoning was almost
complete. That was when she heard a man scream in pain. She then
refocused her mind to the present, knowing that if she failed now, that
poor soul would most likely die.
Nine streams of light erupted from her energy field and stretched
through out the city. One by one, the Sailor Soldiers were caught in the
streams of light and were absorbed. The three for the deceased, hung in
the sky and opened up like a flower, until three distinctly colored
mists flew into them. With the streams' job completed, they retracted to
their source.
Luna could feel the power of all nine of the planets fill her body and
soul. It was beyond overwhelming. It was also painful. With all this
power, came the screams of the suffering, the wailing of those who had
lost loved ones, and so on.
She felt like she was losing consciousness, until a new one came out of
nowhere and took over.
*************************************************
Chad's body made a rather large crater, after Rapier had tossed him in
there. Above the hurting Teknos Spear, Rapier laughed as hard as his
inhuman lungs would allow.
"Now, insect. You'll pay for interrupting!" With that, several of his
armor plates opened up and gather the power that would easily kill his
weaker opponent. And he would have, had it not been for the rather
impressive geyser of light to his far right.
Not only that, but the rather intense light that coming from that and
collided with him, sending him several blocks away. Shaking the cobwebs
out, he marveled at the amount of power this new opponent held.
There, standing within a golden aura, stood what would have passed for
any normal woman. The only discoloration seemed to be the darker gold
plates on her body. Upon her back, a pair of massive feathery wings
hung, the only difference was that these ones seemed more rigid and
hard. Her facial features were more cat-like, but the voice that she
spoke with was not. The entire world seemed to tremble slightly at the
mere whisper of this god-like being.
"So, you're the one that has decided to pit your strength against mine.
I shall be more than willing to oblige." With no warning, the female in
the golden haze charged again. The only difference was that this time,
Rapier had time to dodge a fist that would have easily taken off his
head.
The woman turned around, just as Rapier thrust his weapon into her
shoulder. It was not the pain that shocked her, but the fact that his
weapon had gotten past her defense. At first, her shock was overwhelming
as Rapier took out his weapon and stabbed her in the other shoulder.
She staggered back, holding both shoulders in attempt to ease the pain.
Rapier then aimed for the woman's heart and thrust forward, only to be
blocked by the woman's forearm, where the point pierced through the
limb.
That was when she spoke again. "You know I should thank you. No one
has EVER hurt me like you have." She took a second to glance at her
shoulders. "Pain is a sensation I never felt before. And it feels
wonderful!" She brought back her right fist, threw it forward, and
pierced Rapier's left shoulder.
She smiled darkly and whispered, "I intend to repay you for showing me
pain." With that, she injected a massive amount of power into the
teknoman's body. The resulting explosion threw Rapier through five
buildings, and relieved him of the arm that had once been on the left
side of his body.
He looked up to see the woman had flown right above him, her dark smile
was a little more than evident as it looked like she was ready to attack
again. He stood up and opened up the plates for a rather nasty surprise
in store for her.
In the air, the woman's wings had tripled in number. Then, she spread
her arms and wings to their fullest and a sphere of light began to
develop about her. "Now, behold your reward. My name and a mere sampling
of my power!" The sphere about her suddenly shrunk to be carried into
her hands, and forcing the sphere down, she screamed,
"SOLAR COMET STRIKE!"
At that time, Rapier's own weapon had been brought to its apex and he
released a literal tidal wave of zetronic anitmatter at the sphere that
flew down at him. Both red and gold colored energies seemed to have
neither gained nor lost any ground as their struggle for dominance
continued.
Rapier would not yield to this woman, and he would have continued had
he not felt the spear that pierced his leg. He took a brief glance at
his assailant and saw Spear flying away. And that was his final mistake.
Seeing his attention elsewhere, Solar forced her weapon through
Rapier's. The teknoman screamed with horror as an explosion that would
have made an A-bomb seem small, engulfed him completely. Within seconds,
his shadow was lost in the sphere of light.
*************************************************
Even with Solar's victory, she sensed something was wrong. As she
landed, she took a look at her surroundings. Much had changed since she
last was awake. And now, there were beings about that still would have
proved no challenge.
She sighed. <There is nothing here for me. Not only that, the will of
my children supercedes my own. My time has long since past, and I return
to my slumber.> She not only said that to herself, but to the ten
smaller minds that gave her power.
She took a deep breath and the same aura that covered Luna when she
summoned Solar appeared. Only this time, it was splitting apart. Three
lights returned to the sky. While seven other figures lay strewn about,
without strength, but victorious.
With help from Chad, they Soldiers awakened. Save for Serena. It took a
little extra trying on their part to wake her. Even after she stirred,
it seemed like she wasn't going to stay that way for long as she asked,
"Did we beat him?"
Mina nodded to her and whispered back, "Yeah, we won."
Serena smiled and replied before going back to sleep. "Hooray for our
side."
