I don't know if anyone remembers this fic I wrote during the one hour challenges
last year, but I was going through my stuff and decided to mail it out again.

Evangelion: Under the Light of the Moon
by Elizabeth Thomas

Evangelion is the copyright of GAINAX and AD Vision

*******************************
This is my first attempt at a fanfic. I realize it won't be the greatest, but it's something that I've had in my head for the longest time, and I just wanted to let it out. Yeah, it's a little eclectic, but hey--it's just Rei doing the Primal Scream, neh?
I hope nobody shoots me for this.

This fic takes place after the introduction of the Third Child, before the remergence of the Second. there are spoilers in this, if you can find them amongst the LCL, LSD, and THC. ^_^
*******************************

I step outside of the complex, into the night air. It's a quiet night, with a full moon. Tokyo 3 is calm, serene, alone.

Like me. There is no one out here, no one to tell me anything.

I am alone. Under the light of the Moon. The Moon. The symbol of lunacy. The man in the moon dances along with the rabbit. The Greek Goddess of the old calls out to the anceint symbol of death. Good and evil, it is there.

It calls to me. It calls, Ayanami. I weep for you. I understand you. I hate you. I love you. I cannot believe in you.

From somewhere deep within, my soul answers. Indeed, if I have one. If I have anything of a soul, it is _him_. And his son, his _son_ is a question, a query, an enigma. A man who won't pilot an EVA, yet does.

Alone here, on the dewy, grass-covered hill, I take off my bandages. And my clothes. The moonlight washes over me, a lover, a purifyer, an infector. All this and more. And less. My bruises disappear. My pain goes away. I am called to laugh and dance in the light of the moon, as though it has a power over me that the daylight cannot hold.

Under the light of the moon.

From within, I scream my pain, my fears, my hopes, my joys, everything that is human and inhuman about me to the world and more. To an angel that I must fight. To the angel that is supposed to be a symbol of an omnipotent, omniscient God. Which is real, which is false, which is.

Under the light of the moon.

Rei, I call to you, it says. I call to everyone and everything. Come dance under my spell. Come dance to my tune. Dance the dance. Dance of the Soul. Dancing on fire. Danse Macabre. Dance with the devil in the pale moonlight. dance with me, as I dance with thee, under the light of the moon.

Something in me awakens, calls to me rides down the double helix spiral of my sould, my shell, my ghost, into within. Into _WITHIN_. Into the places where I cannot go. From somewhere within something calls. Something breathes. Something sings. Something wicked this way comes.

From within I see a world of red.
From within I see a name: Lillith.
From within I see a million of me, a billion of me, a younger me, a giant me, a version of me that is twisted, corrupted and fragmented.

I see love.
I see hate.
I see Ikari. Both of them. Myself. I am she. She is me. We are we.

Under the light of the moon.

I stop dancing. I stop moving. The sensation is gone, complete. My bruises, my pain, they return. I put on my clothes. I put on my bandages. I am myself once again, though I'm not sure what, or who I was a second ago.

A name flashes in my head--Yui--but it fades into nothingness. I wander back into Tokyo 3, swallowed up by the nothingness.

Nothingness.

Under the Light of the Moon.
