I just thank God that DIC loses the rights after this year.

And what, pray tell, gives you this idea?


DiC doesn't lose any rights to their already purchased agreements, unless
they decide to sell them - which they haven't. In fact, they're in the
running for negotiating on purchasing the rest of the rights to the Sailor
Moon R Movie and S series.  We'll see if they get it.  *shrug*


Personally, I didn't find the dub that bad. Listen to one of the other
foreign dubs for the show and then you have something to debate with me
about.


In all truth, this is how I'd rate what I've seen:

The music for the English SM is probably the best out of all of them
(although it's closely tied second with the Italian Sailor Moon R t.v.
series music, followed by the Spanish Sailor Moon original series for
third). The German music was horrendous all around (some wierd techno beat
that sounds exactly the same for almost every one of their songs).  The
only good part of the German songs was that they contained an English
counterpart on their soundtrack, if you wanted to listen to it. The
Cantonese had some very lovely acapello songs. The French original series
opening left me in stitches - it was sung by men and the words are terrible
(for those who can understand French, you'd understand what I mean).

The Cantonese voice matching of characters was probably closest the
original Japanese, followed by a close second in Italian (I especially
liked Sailor Venus' voice), then the Phillipino. The English voices were
the furthest from the original Japanese versions, but then, DiC wasn't
going for a complete knock-off either - they WANTED an original sound that
Americans and Canadians could "relate" to.

The Finiish matching of "lip flap" was the best to date, aside from the
Japanese. There are obvious holes in most of the others, where characters
mouths are still moving, but no sound comes out. That only happens in the
English dub mainly in the first 13 episodes. After that, things look much
better.

The most original script I'd give to the American/Canadians, since theirs
is the funniest, and it fills in the in-between holes that you most dialogs
consist of (you know what I'm talking about, right? The allusion to certain
concepts that are important and if you don't get it, you miss the entire
point of the speech). Besides, the English use of insults ("you little
spore", "as if" and "let's get out the violins") was definately charming.


In all, out of all of the dubs I have heard, I'd have to say I enjoyed the
Italian, Cantonese, American/Canadian and Philippino ones the most (aside
from the original Japanese, of course).  Strangely enough, though, it was
the FRENCH dub that has enjoyed the most success outside of the Japanese
original.  Hmmm....


Anyway, I think you should broaden your horizons more before making blanket
statements. When you finally realize that there is much more to Sailor Moon
than just the American/Canadian and original Japanese versions, you begin
to appreciate more what you've got.

Besides, the Canadian voice actors are the BEST! I've met about half of
them, and I have to say that they are definately professionals, but also
very wonderful people.
