Ranma 1/2: Fate and Destiny

It was a rainy day in Nerima, as thunder and lightning streaked across the
skies above. In a part of the city men and women ran for shelter to escape
the downpour and nature's raw fury of magnificent energy. In another part of
the city, a baby's cry could be heard all the way to the heavens above. For
on this day, the Chosen One was born. His cries, upon experiencing life
outside his mother's womb, would be that of one who has been chosen by Fate
and Destiny alike. In a Chinese village across the sea, a warrior maiden who
has been walking and breathing for the past three hundred years suddenly look
to the skies with a startled expression upon her face. Deep within a cave
sealed by a gigantic boulder, a man who has been alive almost as long as that
of the Chinese woman begins to stir as forces above human comprehension starts
to awaken. In a part of Heaven a smile appears upon the face of a being who
is not considered mortal and this expression is mirrored upon the face of
another being as well. As a lightning bolt shatters the darkness of the
night, one thought could be heard in these two beings mind, "It is time!"
* * *
Today was going to be a very hectic but also joyous day for Genma Saotome.
Today is the day that a heir to the Saotome School of Anything Goes Martial
Arts was to be born. Yes, today was a joyous occasion indeed. Unknown to
him, a being of immense power was floating directly above the hospital and
looking into the room Nodoka was sleeping in.
Two days in the past:
We see a man with the look of excitement coupled with a tingle of nervousness
sitting next to a woman lying upon a hospital bed with the same look mirrored
upon her face as well.
Genma : "It'll be any day now dear. Just think, soon I'll be able to pass
down my knowledge of The Anything Goes Martial Arts to my son Ranma." With
these spoken words, a smile that spread across his face and lit the room which
made Nodoka, Genma Saotome's wife, smile as well.
Nodoka : "You've forgot our agreement dearest Genma, although I can't blame
you in light of the possibility of a heir to the arts and another member of
our household. Remember though, if the child is a boy his name shall be Ranma
and it will be your responsibility to train him in the arts as well as being a
man. If the child is a girl though, then her name would be Ranko and I can
fulfill the promise I made to my mother. I'll be able to pass down the
knowledge that was given to me by my mother as it was passed down from her
mother to her." At this she smiled to herself, thinking * wouldn't it be nice
to have another female around the house. * Although she had many friends
including her best friend Kimiko Tendo, the wife of Soun Tendo, Genma's best
friend and partner in training in the style of Anything Goes, the joy of
having a daughter and being able to teach her, see her grow up and marry
created great anticipation and emotions for her. Then reality and a sense of
dread hit her as she thought that there might be a chance something could go
wrong and her or the baby would die. As suddenly as the feeling of
depression came, another feeling, this one of profound calm seems to flow
through her.
F-sensei : "Can't let you get the jitters and make Ranma-chan nervous now can
I," F-sensei spoke softly to Nodoka's subconscious. Reassuring her that she
would have a healthy child and that she'll be alive to see him mature. "He is
Fate's only Chosen One in the past three hundred years and Heaven knows he'll
have many opportunity for a nervous breakdown before his thread is cut. Been
a long time since I was able to use my powers to its fullest, " continued F-
sensei to herself. "Take care of Ranma-chan for me, he'll need you when the
time comes," as F-sensei whisper again to Nodoka.
Present time
Doctor : " A little more Mrs. Saotome. I can see the head emerging now. Just
push a little more. You're doing fine, " encouraged the doctor.
With sweat forming and slowly descending down her face all the while tracing
its curvature before falling onto the bed that Nodoka was currently on, she
gave one final push and cry before collapsing due to the stress and activities
of the day. Then all her problems and the effort of the past couple of hours
seemed far away as she could hear cries of a baby.
Doctor : "It's a boy Mr. and Mrs. Saotome. " exclaimed the doctor. Although
at this time, Genma had passed out sometime around Nodoka being carted into
the operation room and Ranma's cries as he entered the outside world.
Nodoka : "Thank you sensei. Please let him rest there for a few moments, he
has not had a good nights rest in over a week and decent food by the sound of
his stomach, " replied Nodoka. Between the joy of bringing life into the world
and the scene that her husband was making on the floor nothing could be more
right in the world at this moment.
At the first sound of Ranma's cries that could be heard by his parents or in
this case parent, that cry could be heard by F-sensei as well in the sky above
the hospital.
F-sensei : "So it is time, " she smiled as she head toward the source of that
sound. As she approached the hospital, she suddenly halted for a split second
before resuming on her previous course. In the back of her mind she sensed
someone, a presence that she has not felt in over three millennium. * So
Destiny has finally chosen a Champion after all this time. I wonder who this
special someone is to draw D-sensei into this universe and dimension. Whoever
this person is, I just have to meet, that is after I take care of my Ranma-
chan. Just imagine D's ward being a girl, I might just try and bend space
some so that Ranma will have a chance meeting and maybe fall in love with this
person. This century is turning out to be a pleasant surprise , heck this
might be the best millennium yet since Tenchi Masaki and his Light Hawk Ken.
I remember when it was only yesterday although it happened four millenniums
ago in a different universe and dimension. Destiny had to give Tenchi one of
the most powerful weapons in all the Universe. D-kun was never really the
social type, always so strict. I on the other hand gave Tenchi the
opportunity to live with six different beautiful females. Although he didn't
seem to take advantage of that aspect of his life until he was 21, it was
still fun . Those were the good old days ." sigh F-sensei. She entered the
room that Nodoka was resting in, with Ranma sleeping in her arms and Genma by
her side. No one could see her unless she wanted them to and another reason
for her invisibility was because she did not want to scare them. What sane
person would believe her to be anything other an a ghost when they see her
float and walk through walls, even Tenchi still would have a hard time
believing her even after living with Ryoko. * Thought F-sensei. Although she
her real name was F-sama, she like to think of herself as a healer and a
teacher of life and it many possibilities. * Back to work, * F-sensei told
herself. When she got close enough to the sleeping infant, she closed her
eyes for a few seconds as a faint aura of energy started to surround her. As
she called up Ranma's present future, a mist appeared above Ranma's head.
Looking into the mist she saw the life that he would have had if Fate had not
intervene and chosen him. She saw that when Ranma-chan reached the age of
six, his father, Genma, who is obsessed with the martial arts would take him
to train abroad. There he would get the child cursed, so that whenever Ranma
was splashed with cold water he would turn into a girl and when he was
splashed with warm water he would reverted back to his male self. Although
this was not bad because it opened up many possibilities, what made her mad
was that the good for nothing father had sold his son's future to not one
family to marry but twenty for some measly pieces of food. On top of that,
this so called father, not only took Ranma away from the love a mother could
give to her child but didn't even teach him anything other than martial arts,
no emphasis on proper social behaviors or education. What disturbed her the
most was the chaos that she saw shadowing Ranma when he began to mature.
He'll have three possible fiancee : Akane, Shampoo and Ukyou and many
enemies/friends like Ryoga, Mousse, and Kuno. She saw how without her help
many people's lives would be ruin because of Genma's poor choices. He even
made his wife, Nodoka miserable, that bastard. Fate always tries to spin a
web of harmony where the least amount of people fall into chaos but here
surrounding this boy's future was one of the worse she had ever seen. Now she
knew why Fate had chosen this boy. He was kind, noble and deserves Fate's
help. Another reason was that he was the center of a web Fate had created
many years in the past. Ranma's new future would still be full of
possibilities but it would also be a bit less chaotic after he has chosen who
he shall marry before his nineteenth birthday. What surprised her was that in
his future he would meet Fate's last Chosen One, who F-sensei had helped out
about three hundred years in the past, an Amazon by the name of Cologne.
About this time, F-sensei felt the presence of D-sensei getting closer and
closer. This puzzled her for a moment before she thought that Ranma might
also be Destiny's Chosen One also. When she saw D-sensei, her guess proved to
be accurate.
D-sensei : " Hello there F-san, been a long time since I last saw you and may
I say that you are still the same Winter rose I remember from so long ago. A
rose so beautiful and unique that with one smile could change Winter to Spring
and still have enough enchantment to leave me breathless, " smiled D-sensei
and winked to her before getting back to his duty. "So it seems that Fate too
has also chosen Ranma as its Champion. This is getting interesting do you not
agree F-san, "continued D-sensei.
F-sensei : "Yes it is and you are still the handsome charmer I knew four
millenniums ago, " replied F-sensei. " Do you want to be the first to bestow
the gift of should I? " asked F-sensei.
D-sensei : "It would be best if I were to go first, I need to integrate part
of my essence into this child. I see trouble times ahead and brute strength
alone will not be enough. He will not have as much power as Tenchi and his
Light Hawk Ken, but then who needs that much power except that particular
Chosen One four millenniums ago. No what I plan to bestow upon this mortal is
better than just power, I'm granting him a part of my essence and with it will
come understanding, knowledge, a sense honor, and some of my abilities of time
space control. As he matures he'll have more and more control and a better
understanding of who he is. This was the reason I have been away from you F-
chan, I could not tell you then because I was forbidden to by my Master and by
Kami-sama. The only being with more power that Fate and Destiny combined.
Know this my love, although you may still hold a grudge against me all this
time I understand and I still love you. After my task is done, I will have to
regenerate for another couple of millenniums and I can not be with you but
understand, in this boy there will always be a part of me that will love you.
Until we meet again, " with his last word he began to become transparent as an
aura of white energy flowed through and around him. F-sensei could see part
of his soul entering Ranma. As D-sensei started to disappear he turned and
spoke three specials words to his love for over countless millenniums and all
F-sensei could do was mirror those words.
F-sensei : "I love you too, D-kun," as she whispered back. * Don't worry
about Ranma, I'll keep him safe. * With that last thought she turned to look
into Ranma's light brown eyes. Before they were black, now as D-kun's gift
flowed and started to caress Ranma's infant body, she could see that Ranma's
ki aura which was very strong before surge into a blinding white light for a
couple of heartbeats before dying back down to what it once was. There were
some other changes that was hard to spot but it really did not matter although
now it seems like Ranma could see her, but only for a moment before Ranma fell
back asleep. F-sensei knew that part of D-kun's power was in Ranma now. His
new powers would only emerge though if Ranma was ever really stressed out or
his life was endangered. Now it was her turn. With a light touch to Ranma's
forehead, she opened to Ranma different pathways he could take as he matured.
There was nothing he could not do if he tried hard enough for now he had Fate
and Destiny by his side.

Next Chapter : Meeting of friends and a death of a love one.
In the prelude I tried to set the tone of how the story would emerge. With
chapter one I introduced F-sensei and D-sensei and developed their
characteristics. Sorry if you were looking for Ranma or one of the other
characters having a larger role in this chapter. I promise they will in later
ones.

out in about a month, sorry, college takes up a lot of my time.
