Probably the easiest way (if you're writing in prose) is to refrain from
"accenting" the words they say, but instead briefly describing how their
accent differs in sound/quality.  For example:

"My name is Ukyou Kuonji," she said, her words softened by a lilting
Osaka slur.

(okay, I know Ukyou's from Kyoto, it's just an example :))

Another idea is to use a few choice Kansai phrases, in the Japanese, to
spice up the dialogue:

"Ooki ni," she said with a smile, accepting the bowl of ramen.  

Frankly, I prefer either of these approaches in translating dialect in a
situation where there is not a widespread knowledge of the dialect among
the audience.  Assigning a complementary accent (i.e. Bronx for Osaka)
can work when the implications are less specific, but I really can't
think of a distinctive accent, American or British, that really has the
same feel as Osaka and can be easily expressed. (Me. I'd lean towards
Chicago if I had to choose -- it has that same laid back, softened sound
to it -- but it doesn't express well on paper.)
