Yes.

She puts him through all sorts of hell.  Nabiki
is quite capable of such acts if she thinks the recipient deserves it -
and, given Ranma's treatment of Akane at the beginning of the story, he
certainly does.  :)

mind is far beyond the emotional distress she caused him in that story.

I don't see that.  After all, it causes no damage to Ranma's psyche, and
is actually beneficial in that in lifts his inhibitions.  Nabiki
recognizes this, and uses it to give Akane what she really wants from
Ranma on her birthday - some affection.

More to the point, though, in that story she was doing it to teach Ranma
a lesson;

Not really; she did it because she knew that's what Akane wanted, and what
Ranma would want to give her if he could get over his own immaturity.  :)

whereas in your fic I don't see that -- it seems just plain
vindictive to me.

Really?  She's doing something nice for Akane, and isn't getting back at
Ranma for anything he did to her - unlike the manga story, where she
*really* took Ranma to the emotional cleaners, wringing every bit of
torture out of him that she could.  In my mind, she was a lot more cruel
in that story than she was in this.  Ranma was mean to Akane, so that, in
Nabiki's mind, means that she shouldn't feel guilty for putting him
through a few seconds of fear in order to get him to a state where his
*true* feelings for Akane come through.  :)

The only lesson likely here is "Be wary when Nabiki
offers to help you for free" -- which she might not *want* him to learn.

Or that if Ranma would stop being such a yutz and admit to himself that he
likes Akane, he'd have a much happier life.  :)
