Nabiki's Diary
By Jared Lewis

The rain poured heavily down on Ranma's face. Yes, he was a girl now, but he didn't notice. He really wondered why he was getting so worked up over this. What had she been to him? The girl who charged a fortune for hot water when an amazon was trying to kill him? Who sold smutty pictures of him to the school pervert? He turned his eyes over to the girl in black. She cried when she saw Nabiki after what happened to her. She cried while it happened. She was crying now, weeping onto Kasumi's shoulder. Kasumi...she had to be strong for Akane. She stared blankly at the coffin. Her eyes held no sadness or emotion of any kind. The red haired girl couldn't bare to look at Soun. He was drawing attention to himself, weeping and bawling openly. Ranma shook his head. Poor Soun..his daughters were his heart and soul; now he had lost one of them. The most startling thing of all was seeing Ryoga, covered by his umbrella, standing there like a stone statue, tears running down his face. Tears? For Nabiki? Why Ryoga? When Ranma found out the reason for Ryoga's tears, it would be the most shocking experience imaginable.

I'll never forget her as long as I live. She was like this big sister I never had. Sure, she was a pain, but she loved us all, even though she never showed it, I know she did. Oh, Nabiki, I'm so sorry you and Ryoga'll never...

As I always thought it would be, her hunger for money lead to her end. She sold Pop to the zoo, thinking she could get away with it and make some extra cash. We caught her in the act. I remember how angry she was. She was money crazy, but she was never one to get emotional. Her eyes held sadness, something you'd never expect from Nabiki. Suddenly, a loud voice boomed throughout the zoo. "Attention, a lion has escaped from its cage. Everyone, please evacuate."

The rest was like a dream. The people running, screaming, trying to survive. That's when I saw it. The lion. It was standing there, majestic unmoving, as if sizing up its first victim. It was only a few feet away from Nabiki.

"NABIKI! GET OUT OF THERE!" Akane screamed. But it was too late. The beast was upon her, tearing into her flesh. She screamed; a bloodcurdling, anguished scream. Just then, the zoo personnel came, restraining it, leaving Nabiki, in a pool of her own blood.

We all ran over to her. Me, Kasumi, Akane, Mr. Tendou, Pop who was still a panda. Her body was pale from loss of blood. "Nabiki! Nabiki please hold on!" Akane's voice was frantic as she shook the unmoving body. Her throat had been slashed open. Her eyes were open, but not really looking at anything. She was quite obviously dead. "Akane," I finally said. "She's gone."

	That was three weeks ago.

It was a bright summer day. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and The Tendous and Saotomes sat silently around the dinner table. Kasumi had her usual pleasant smile. She, Genma, Ranma and Happosai were the only ones eating. Soun was weeping into his hands. That's all he ever did anymore. Weep for Nabiki, his poor daughter. His little girl. She was only 17. Ranma couldn't bring himself to look at Akane. Her eyes were red from all her crying and had dark circles around them from lack of sleep. She just poked at the food with her chopsticks, staring at it.

"Akane?" I knocked at the door. "Are you in there?" No answer. I opened the door. "Akane?" Empty. I sighed and walked out of the room. As I entered the hall, I realized something; Nabiki's door was open.

That door had been closed for three weeks. No one dared go in. I wondered; was Akane in there?

*******

Nabiki awoke to hear a tapping on her bedroom door. Ryoga. She sighed and looked at the clock. Four in the morning. What did that idiot want at this hour? She went and opened the window. "Ryoga," she began. "Why are you coming into my room?"
"I'm sorry...I just really need to talk to someone right now." Nabiki sighed again. "Fine, but any time after this will cost you, pig boy."

*******

"Ranma..." Akane sat on Nabiki's bed, holding something. A blue leather book. Nabiki's diary. "What is it Akane?" Ranma asked.
"Ranma, you're never going to believe this."

*******

Nabiki's head pounded. Her vision was blurred. She looked under her blanket. She was naked. Ryoga was in bead next to her. She looked under than blanket. Also naked. Something was very wrong.
