Asuka opened her mouth but her words failed her. She had never
said those words before. But somehow, she knew she had to say them...
"I’m sorry"
Shinji's door opened slowly at the sound of her words. "Yes.
You are sorry. A sorry excuse for an Eva pilot, a sorry excuse for a
student, and a sorry excuse for a human being. It's all fun and games
for you, until someone dies, and then it's even more fun. Of course, it
doesn't matter, because the High and Mighty Asuka Langley Soryuu says it
doesn't matter, and we know that Gods and their angels are always
right."
Asuka backed away in fright at the demon that approached her.
This wasn't Shinji, this was Lucifer in his form. The Fallen One
grabbed Asuka by the bow on her uniform and spun around, slamming her
into a wall. Asuka tried to escape, but Shinji slammed his palm into
the wall by her head. *Scars* Asuka noted. *Why are there scars along
his wrists?* The line of thought was broken as Shinji's knee made
itself known in her stomache.
"You will look at me, bitch, when I am talking to you. Do you
understand?" Asuka was too busy clutching herself in pain to answer,
and this served to only anger Shinji more. "You, you, you. It's always
about you, isn't it? You can't answer me right now, because you hurt
too much, right?" Again Asuka didn't answer. "I understand." Shinji
said meekly as he released his grip on her bow. Asuka sighed in relief,
thinking that the nightmare was over when she heard a resounding crack,
like a bone breaking. A sudden pain flared up her arm, sending her to
her knees. She looked down to see her forearm bent at an unnatural
angle, with blood pooling on the floor beneath it.
"I think the bone jutting through the skin was a rather nice
touch, don't you, Asuka? Oh I forgot, you're probably in too much pain
to answer me at the moment." Shinji squatted down next to Asuka, and
yanked her head back by the hair. Frightend, tear filled eyes met with
icy steel ones. "Something you should know. When I first came here, I
was given a choice. I could either get in the Eva, and kill. Or I
could not get in the Eva, go back home, and kill. So no matter what I
once was, you should know this. I _AM_ a killer." Shinji curled his
middle finger under his thumb, and sent a hard flick against the shard
of bone, sending waves of pain through the girl, and then left back into
his den.
Asuka crawled over to the telephone.
"Tokyo-3 Emergency Line. What is the nature of your emergency?"
Asuka sighed, and gathered what little strength she had left.
"I'd like to report a missing person. His name is Shinji
Ikari." She gasped in pain as her arm bumped into the wall.
"Miss? Are you alright?"
"I just want him to know that I'm so sorry I was ever mean to
him." Asuka said as the world faded from veiw.
"Miss? MISS?"
But before her world totally collapsed, she caught sight of the front door
opening and another Shinji entering the apartment. Before everything went black,
she heard Shinji's voice.
"What the..."
Time passed...
"Asuka, hang in there. You're going to be all right?" came a soft voice,
calling her back into consciousness "The ambulance is on its way"
Asuka didn't want to open her eyes. She dared not to. But when she felt
something warm brush against her cheek, her eyes opened, albeit slowly.
The room was dark, the lights being off. It only took her a moment for her
eyes to get adjusted to the darkness. When it did, she caught sight of Shinji's
face, which was illuminated by the gentle moonlight shining in through one of
the open windows.
Her eyes widened when she realized it was Shinji, no, not Shinji, but that
horrible moster that had maimed her so horribly.
"Get away from me!!!" she screamed, trying desperately to scoot away from her
killer, her body soon wracked in searing pain from her broken arm. She fell back
on her side, daring not to tend her broken arm, scared it would cause her more
pain.
Shinji took a step forward. In his hands, he had a bloodied knife.
"Get away from me!!!" she screamed again, fighting back her yearning to vomit
from the pain. If she didn't get away, Shini would kill her.
"Asuka," Shinji said, stepping forward and placing a hand on her shoulder
gently, "It's me, Shinji Ikari. I'm not the one that hurt you!"
"G-get a-away f-from-" she tried to say, her voice strickened with absolute
panic.
Shinji said, "Look at me, I'm not the moster that hurt you," he then pointer
toward a bloody heap in the corner of the room, "He's the one who did this to
you, not me"
Asuka gazed toward where Shinji was pointing and caught sight of another
Shinji, a vicious, killer-like Shinji.
"W-what's g-going on?" she managed to ask.
"You were attacked by an angel," her replied, "I managed to stop him. I came
home and saw a duplicate of myself in the middle of the room standing where you
were laying unconscious. He attacked me and I was forced....forced....t-to kill
him" Tears started trickling down his eyes.
Asuka was totally quiet. This was the Shinji she knew, without a doubt. This
was the Shinji that, deep down, she cared about.
"Are you all right?" he asked, his voice weak.
"I-I dunno,"
"D-don't worry, t-the ambulance is on its way...." he said, his voice getting
soft. He dropped the knife and fell down to his knees, his eyesight starting to
fail him "Y-you'll b-be....fine"
He managed to assure Asuka that she would be all right, right before he
slumped forward to die in her arms. She managed to catch Shinji's body with her
one good arm.
But before he closed his eyes one last time, knowing that he would never
awaken, he said the few words that Asuka hated hearing the most...but will
forever miss hearing...
"I'm sorry"
I dunno, I had nothing better to do ;)
