I have heard the rant and felt like adding my own little rambling discourse
on it....


Okay, maybe there is truth to the statement that there are two many Ranma
fics on the web, maybe even truth to the statement that there are few
original ideas left, but really, what are we, after all? We are all
twisters. That's right, twisters. Fanfiction writers have taken an allready
existing character or idea and simply TWISTED it into a new story. By that
definition, no writer is a true, technical, ORIGINAL writer. Even for
writers who create their own character, plots, ideas, etc. as long as
he/she uses a prexisting character he/she is not totally original. At this
point, the story all falls down to style.

 Bluntly, is the writer any good? And hell, even if the writer isn't, that
is the purpose of this mailing list... to make better writers!! Heck, I
consider myself a fairly decent writer, however, I know I am much better
then when I started, largely inpart to ideas and critiscims I recieved from
this list. I say that instead of bemoaning the fact that there is
oversaturation of fics and writers and a seeming lack of original ideas, we
should all be jubilant that we have so many writers, with so many ideas and
so many stories.

And need I remind anyone that as more and more stuff comes out (new videos,
new series' new episodes) then there will be new ideas and new characters?

well... I could continue droneing on, but I think I'll just stop here with
the simple statement that more is better. "Average" writing is a phrase
that I don't think really applies, because with some hard work and some
help, all the average writers will eventually become good and maybe even
great writers, who will in turn help new writers improve.
