Hi Phil, ^_^
A few nitpicks about the short segment of your fic. ^_^
What's Limestone got to do with any lack of Algae?
I don't think I've ever heard of any reference to the Ph balance of a body
of water that would reduce the population of algae in a body of water
unless it was a sudden change, as a gradual change would yield algae which
would be resistant to the new Ph levels. But then again, part of the plot?
{ie, recent subterranian quake which caused part of the wall to
disintegrate and contaminate the water? ^_- I would gestimate the time to
have happened within the past month or two then. :p}
Another comment on the Algae of the fic would be... Why is it growing on
the walls?? {Or more accurately, coating the walls.} Algae, unless bathed
by a healthy dose of water, which didn't seem the case in your text, won't
grow. I know, I tried in my backyard. :p
What WILL grow would most likely fall into the categories of Lichen, Moss,
Bacteria, or Fungus. Even insect colonies would. ^_^ But I've yet to hear
of Algae, unless that part of the cave used to be flooded... {oceanic?}
Grammer and spelling not being my strongpoints, I'll steer clear of those
areas... :p And stumble elsewhere. ;)
I'm surprised that there was no mention of any of Lara's weapons. Since if
she were wearing her shotgun, or at least her pistols, I would have assumed
that Ranma would have at least made occasional references to them or even
glanced at them. That is, since he specializes in empty hand combat, he
would find those weapons.. dishonourable. Oh well, just something. ^_^
Hmm.. the only other comment I have is concerning your portrayal of Lara's
persona.. terse, tired, almost stuck up. From the feeling of the fic, I can
see tired and from that, terse. But where is she getting the stuck up
attitude from? My own experience of her persona comes from TR and TRII. In
both games, she doesn't strike me as stuck up.. Hmm.. perhaps stuck up
isn't a good way to phrase it. But the way she seems to talk to Ranma seems
that way. Oh well. I didn't read the first "quest", so I might have missed
something. ^_^;
Other than my pizza deprived comments, I kinda liked the fic. ^_^ Though it
does feel.. slower and calmer than what one would expect from a fic bearing
both TR and Ranma titles. ^_-
Good luck on the writing and completing of your fic. I can't promise you'll
ever hear any further c&c from me. {Not that I don't want to, just that I
have a habit of checking mail and reading stuff based on my mood. Sometimes
I read. Sometimes I don't. :p I'm the moody fish! I'm sure there are other
moody fishes out there.. even if there are good fic-baits, they won't bite.
;)}
Anyways, enough of my meaningless ramblings. Just wanted to comment on the
algae thing. :)
Good luck,
Wing. {Btw, HAPPY NEW YEAR!}
"Something is wrong with the water." Lara comments from my left.
"Why?"
"There is no algae on it... there should be."
I look to the pool, and sure enough, there is not a trace of the
stuff on the surface. "What do you think is wrong with it?"
Lara looks at me as if I am an idiot, almost making me squirm.
"Considering the limestone composition of this rock, I can tell you
*exactly* what's wrong with it." With that, she walks toward the lake.
Limestone? I look to the walls of the cavern. Looks like marble
to me, perhaps she is mistaken? Anyway, what does limestone have to do
with screwy water? Chemistry is *not* my strong point.
I follow her. The lake, because of it's lack of algae is fairly
dank, relative to the rest of the area. So, we venture on, into the
dark...
